  1. I was taught this when I was young: "You can justify anything. It doesn't make it right." You don't know me, I certainly don't live in a boringly perfect world. To me it's a simple matter of trust. She lied. She got caught. She got spanked. She'll deal with it and get over it. "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  2. She lied. You seem to be ok with it. But they are different.(as it is each their right....) It still doesn't justify lying to the gear company. "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  3. Really? Saying she has 3 times the number of jumps that she really does in order to scam a BASE equipment company into renting her gear...... Sounds like lying to me.... "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  4. I don't have a problem with the TSA asking me to open my rig. I don't think that they should be prevented from thouroghly inspecting anything that is loaded on the plane. If it is known that a parachute gets to pass without inspection, then those that would do us harm could use this against us. That's not to say that I'd be happy to pay for another repack, but I see it as an added cost of flying with my rig in a time of war. If I wasn't OK with this, I'd ship my rig seperately before I travel. Of course, your mileage may vary......... "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  5. Only one.... "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  6. The real question is: What would Jesus do.....for a klondike bar? (from a bumper sticker) "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  7. Kansas....Intelligent design, and now this! "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  8. I never said they were incapable of emotions. I asked Judy if she thought the Elephant felt humiliated. Too often people project human emotions on animals, when there is no real inter-species correlation. My dog appears "happy" when I pet her. To compare it to human happiness. while understandable, is still probably inadequate. To say that an elephant feels "humiliated" imho, is a stretch. We have no idea what the elephant is thinking. "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  9. Since we're projecting Human emotions on animals, and using your experience with a dog, how do you know it didn't make the elephant feel "Pretty"? It might have loved getting all dolled up....... "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  10. Do you think Elephants can feel humiliated? "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  11. "Ve hav vays ov making you punctuate!" "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  12. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply you did, but it sounds like the person that sent it to you might have.
  13. Anyone else wonder why they only listed 34, when they claim 38 voted against it? "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  14. I think this was propagated for political reasons, and posting it on forums like this one is exactly the what the author wanted. I don't think you can make a valid assumption where these people stand on this issue by only looking at this one vote. From the snopes article: Politicians who want to sway your opinion will go to great lengths to do so, such as omitting relevant facts, like in this case. If the source has an agenda, be wary of their claims. If the information someone is trying hard to sell you concerns politics, it's a pretty good bet they have an agenda. If someone accepts the information blindly and passes it on, that makes them a tool. (edited for punctuation) "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  15. Here'e the details: http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/englishvote.asp Snopes lists this as "partly true". "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."

Wives tale... "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  18. Care to elaborate, or will you be vague in your prediction of the end time like all the others? There is one thing that everyone who has predicted the end of the world has in common(and there have been many of them throughout history...)....so far, they have all been wrong. Many have used the book of revelation to back up there position and were still wrong. Shouldn't that tell you something? "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  19. Words like "delusional"? (Relax Windcatcher...it's a joke.) "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  20. As I understand it.... Christianity is made up of 2 parts, Catholic, and Protestant. The Catholic church can trace it's lineage directly back to Peter(Matthew ch.16, verse 18: 'And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.') Peter is considered the first Pope of the Catholic church. All other Christian denominations are, by definition, Protestant. (I don't buy what any of them are selling, although YMMV.) 21. Congrats! In a bit of irony, on my first solo, the passenger door opened as soon as I rotated. Not a big deal to me, I'm used to having a door open in flight.
  22. I think christianity would be better recieved if more followers had this attitude. "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  23. Not at all. If it is an effective coping mechanism for them, great. There seems to be many benefits to choosing to believe, even if that choice is not based on anything that I find rational or logical. For me, though, it is important that what I choose to believe is the truth. Despite the fact that there would be benefits to choosing to believe, the concept of a god, for me, has never even come close to passing for truth. For me, the benefits of choosing to believe do not outweigh accepting as truth something I know to be untrue. Obviously, your mileage may vary, and if you've found something that brings you a measure of peace, I'm happy for you. Just don't try to convince me that it's the truth without bringing proof. Objective, rational, proof. That's all. For what it's worth, of all the posters on the "believers" side of these discussions, I appreciate your civility and intent the most. "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  24. Like I said, reality can be tough to deal with sometimes. I guess so. It's mostly just observation based on people I know that were "saved" as adults. Almost invariably, the "saving" happened during very difficult/trying/stressful times in thier life(times that wouldn't be conducive to making sound, rational decisions). As a minister, obviously you are exposed to more of the "cradle-born" christians than I am. "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
  25. Yes, people do strange things during times of great stress.... Most of the people I know who describe themselves as "born again" became "born again" during very stressful times in their lives. Makes me think it's a coping mechanism. Reality can be tough to deal with sometimes. "Science, logic and reason will fly you to the moon. Religion will fly you into buildings." "Because figuring things out is always better than making shit up."
