  1. It seems to me that if you have good line stows, and more importantly have the locking stows stowed correctly, the only thing that is going to happen is that you will have a shorter time between container opening and d-bag opening. Once the d-bag is off of the canopy the canopy should not inflate any faster, so your sloopy pack job thought would apply no matter the size of the pilot chute. I would not worry too much about it. 2. There is no better or worse, but I do agree that simple is the best way to start. I have an alti 3 and wear it on my leg strap, you can see it free flying and tracking as well as under canopy. I also am a big fan of audibles as a suppliment to whatever visual you choose. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  3. your call completely, but you are on the edge of the rating for your gear and you have only 70 jumps, I know you said you downsized without skipping steps, but that would mean only a couple jumps on each one. While your wing loading is fairly conservative, your gear is pushing its rating every jump. I would not say anything at all but you were the one that mentioned how it was not hard to avoid the overloading issue. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  4. I am pretty sure someone at the DZ nearest you will help you out. If you just have to have one the pack like a pro video is a good one. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  5. I don't know where you are, but if you are near Dallas, TX. Let me know and I will show you how to pack a main, for free. You can even video if you like... Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans

  7. If that proves your point I guess I must be missing the point? Is your point that there is a greater chance of a rigger using the wrong thread in sealing a rig, than there is of the same rigger making a mistake and sewing through a flap and into a canopy. It would seem to me, if we were making assumptions, mine would be that any rigger that can't tell the difference in seal thread and E thread might not be able to tell what he/she was sewing through either. And again, my question was, is there an instance where a seal got into a gromet and prevented the opening of a flap, which was the example I posted about. I can't find any instance where that is documented, and the example given is pretty vauge. I would think that if the problem is that some rigger used E thread, instead of seal thread, changing the seal process is not the needed fix. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  8. I think that generally speaking, there is not a good reason for sewing anything to a closed container. I am not saying if done correctly it would cause a problem, but I don't see it as a good habit. Are you saying, there is a recorded instance of the seal getting into a gromet and causing a container to not open? Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  9. Jess, So sorry to hear that you broke your ass babe. If you need someone to rub anti-itch cream on your ant bitten butt let me know I will be more than happy to help. 10. I did AFF but everything I have heard or read makes me think that AFP may well be the better overall program. If I started today and had both as an option I would choose AFP I am pretty sure. have fun, Welcome. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  11. I have to agree... ask the instructor... also ask about getting some video so that you can learn even more on the ground... I can't tell you how much you can get out of a few seconds of video... but in the end you will get no better advice than what your actual instructor can give you... he/she knows... listen you will learn Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  12. there you go, get the family to front the cash... I love that.... I bought my daughter her first jump... whatever gets you in the air. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans

  18. might be another reason to check out a smaller DZ Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  19. I didn't pass level 3 the first time. There was a point where I realized just how relaxed you could be and skydive, it was all better then, just stick with it and you will be fine. Stay safe, you can jump longer. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  20. well if you have to ask... it is you. You can cure that with just one jump though. Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  21. Sorry didn't mean to cut you out. I have heard nothing but good things about Aggieland, just never have made it there yet and was thinking closest to him. I do keep intending to get there and play with you guys though. So I stand corrected, there are at least three... www.skydiveaggieland.com Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  22. Welcome to you both. I agree that there is no one here picking on you for asking questions. Keep in mind that the answer sometimes is "just go and skydive". but if you ask a serious question you will get a serious answer. welcome to the sky, Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  23. There is not a lot of chance that a USPA DZ is going to let you jump. You could always try one of the non upsa DZ's they are fun to jump at too and lots of people learn at them. They mostly have the ability to do tandems. But for the most part really I like the learn to pack and hang at a DZ method, I can see only good coming from that. 24. There are two DZ's in the Houston Area. Spaceland and Waller. http://www.skydivespaceland.com http://www.skydivehouston.com/ either one can hook you up I am sure. Welcome to the sky... Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
  25. Sell all your stuff. Say good-bye to all but your three closest friends. Learn to pack. you will never look back... welcome to the sky Bill have fun, love life, be nice to the humans
