There is one small difference here... We are talking about lives here, not Hollywood smile. If your teeth don't get whiter you don't die... On the contrary, if you cutaway at 100ft with Racer (and even RSL), cause the ad implied you can safely do so, the probability that you will die is very high. I know you should not cutaway that low, but some less informed people could make that choice based on what the manufacturer told them (in the ad). . Let's say you get out of wrap, your canopy is not landable, you look at you altimeter, you are at 100ft, 64ft figure flashes in your memory, so you go for it...

Somone? Is this the same someone who's friends with your sisters brothers cousin twice removed? It's always someone or I know this guy. What's wrong is your talking about 10 years ago. Live in the now. That has nothing to do with what is being done today or even what we are discussing here. What's wrong here is that I think Jumpshack used deceptive advertising in these printed ads as well as in "BreakAway" commercials. That's it. But, as you said, we are not even discussing it here...

Exactly... Containers should be compared in terms of the distance lost from a cutaway, to a moment the freebag slides of the reserve canopy... There is a JumpShack commercial during one of the breaks on "BreakAway" video. The reserve openings are so brisk that I think they would be VERY hard at terminal. Someone said that Jumpshack used a different pack job just to produce "WOW" effect for this commercial, but the same pack job would hurt you at terminal. Also, remember when they used to advertise 64-foot reserve openings (from cutaway to full canopy) in "Skydiving" magazine about 10 years ago? That's faster that SkyHook! . What's wrong here???

Has anybody cut away with the SkyHook, yet?

A few months have passed, so let me repeat the question -
Measurement of Vector V2-2 D-bag and reserve free bag
skydiverek replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Gear and Rigging
So what do you do if you lost a freebag and a Reserve PC after a cutaway??? Wait 5 months till you can jump again??? -
Not as much of an issue with kill lines as it is with bungees I think... I think you are right... It is mentioned here: http://performancedesigns.com/docs/hrdopn.pdf I think they refer to bungee cord as "shock cord".

But not for kill-line...

Who should reline a canopy? Rigger? Master Rigger? Factory?
skydiverek replied to kitof1976's topic in Gear and Rigging
Main is not a TSO component, so probably anyone could do it. You could even build a main canopy from sheets, threads and paper clips, and go jumping and it would be perfectly legal. -
Yeah, let me stress it again - make sure the penny whistle is removed...

Most people choose Parapak (more slippery than Cordura) for body contact areas (inside of leg pads and backpad) and Cordura for everything else. Also, Cordura has a texture more like your jeans, and I heard that its not even texture casts shadows, so that a sun does not shines (and damages) on all of it, as it would happen with a flat surface (Parapak). Basically, it stays stronger for longer.

What gave it away that it's not Vector 1?

Question for Vector3 owners (or Bill Booth!)
skydiverek replied to pilotdave's topic in Gear and Rigging
Here are some good pictures of older Vector 3s, with 8 pieces of piping -
Question for Vector3 owners (or Bill Booth!)
skydiverek replied to pilotdave's topic in Gear and Rigging
This rig has space for 8 pieces of piping, but number 1 and 8 were left 'blank' (no color specified on order form), as probably requested by the buyer... There is no trim tape there. That was done to create an illusion that there were only 5 'sun beams' (like on Vector 1 and Vector 2). This illusion would be even better if you colored the middle 5 'sun beams' with a different color. But again, on closer look, this 'trick' is visible (blank 1st and 8th piping)... -

skydiverek replied to pilotdave's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yeah, I've seen a lot of people do it. But still, even if it is the same color as reserve (trim tape or piping and two outside 'sun beams'), and you make only 5 'sun beams', that 'trick' will be visible on closer inspection... -
Question for Vector3 owners (or Bill Booth!)
skydiverek replied to pilotdave's topic in Gear and Rigging
All Vector 3 rigs have 7 center flap stripes ('sun beams', how I call them -
Here are Performance Designs' preferred rubber bands. Cheap and breakable, when they need to... http://performancedesigns.com/store_files/accesorystore2.asp?product=bands

You mean the 'journey" or 'soulflyers'? And where can you buy it?

Why did you start skydiving/ BASE jumping?

I would modify the poll... If I load it at 1.2, do I check 1.0-1.2 or 1.2-1.4... ? Make it like 1.0-1.2 and 1.21-1.4, etc.

Interesting Bill. Do you think the risk of doing an intentional cutaway outweighs the benefit? I`d be very interested in your opinion. Cheers, Ollie I think Bill meant that the "malufunction tree" has more "roots", sort of like tandem tree - more handles to pull, more ways to pull them and screw up, more possibilities of entanglement. I think that's what happened to Rob Harris...

Great footage! Thanks for sharing!
