  1. Yes, in a downwind. Now, I do think that begs the question on how effective the new rules are at limiting distance in downwind conditions since that 5 gate comes up so quickly and we still have lots of energy to pop up in that scenario. There is no question though that we would be going a lot further, in all conditions, under the old rules. I think (this is just a guess) that we'll see amendments that will prohibit pop-ups past 5 foot regardless of where you are on the course to keep the distances manageable to venue hosts.   2. I disagree. I'm curious, how many comps you've done under the new rules? While not the intended purpose of the new rules, personally I'm in favor of anything that limits the pilots ability to pop up too high. IMO In recent years distance largely became the event that rewarded the pilot who was willing to pummel in from 40 ft. Under the old rules, 2 days of distance training = really sore body. Under the new rules a pilot can train distance, hard, all day for multiple days running. Personally, I think the new rules are fun and challenging (while different). In order to provide an apples to apples comparison you'd need to include elevation, wind direction, and wind strength.   7. Yes, to a point. It's been my experience that once a company gets really big (and entrenched) - it's very difficult, or near impossible to get rid of them.   8. I don't really enjoy typing this stuff out, it's easy to accidently mis-communicate, but I'll give it my best. Both parties are partly, correct. It largely depends on the wind strength and technique. Full flight will offer the best penetration, however at the price of altitude. In moderate to low head winds, if you need to preserve a little altitude AND maintain maximum forward drive in these conditions - a touch (and I mean a touch) of rears can help vs 1/4 or so toggles. Most people pull or overamp rears however, which gets them no where fast. If preserving altitude is not an issue, I use full flight. If I need to preserve a little altitude, I'll relax my arms while holding rears. The stronger the winds, the less effective this will be. In tail winds, I always use braked flight.   13. As is Canopy Piloting. How many serious swoop comps have you been to in the last 3 years? Crashes are rare to say the least. Of course they do happen from time to time. Very rarely are they anything more than a bruised ego. Educate yourself on what canopy piloting really is? And no, I don't mean go and watch a few beer line swoops. Actually go and educate yourself on the competitive side of the discipline. Talk to the seasoned pilots and you'll find there's an incredible amount of science, and technique to the discipline (as with any skydiving discipline). You'd probably be surprised how much thought, planning, and practice goes into becoming a good competitive pilot. Not sure how you're qualified to recommend anything. You clearly haven't educated yourself on the Canopy Piloting side of the sport. That statement is about as absurd as me making Crew recommendations.   15. They shouldn't be mixed. It's pretty well accepted that people need to separate landing areas, and/or hop n pop loads for Canopy Piloting. If that isn't happening you have a cultural and/or DZ issue. You can fix that by being proactive at your dz, or choosing one that advocates safer practices.   16. I don't agree with it either. 180's are a necessary part of the learning process. Don't get me wrong, I really don't like them, but they're a part of the process that shouldn't be skipped imo. The biggest issue with them is the difficulty in flying a good pattern - especially since a lot of people don't do a base leg and go straight into their turn.
