My teammate, Tom, loves the KA openings far more than the ST openings (he went from a ST 107 to a KA 89). Slower opening HP canopies require constant attention during deployment as well. Most of the time the pilots make the openings difficult on themselves. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

The "godfather" of swooping?

Definitely have to agree here. Watching Rickster in Anti-Gravity was where my interest and pursuit of swooping all began. -
Good canopy for learning to swoop?
ianmdrennan replied to tetra316's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Canuck, I had a heatwave (ST clone) for a number of jumps, but I'd still recommend the Sabre2 over a ST anyday. I think it has more characteristics that are common with todays 'harcore' swooping canopies than the ST. The ST is a good wing, and if it's all you've got it's fine, but if you have an alternative like the Sabre2 - I'd take that. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Good canopy for learning to swoop?
ianmdrennan replied to tetra316's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Your Sabre2 for learning to swoop, definitely. Great canopy that can be swooped far and has a huge range. Once you've got that down, post another question here letting us know how/what you're doing on that and the next step can be recommended. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Anybody order from PD lately? (Delivery time question)

PD's delivery times are usually spot on. I'd expect what they tell you, AND a quality product -

Nice lazyboy! -
??? So the tail will get pulled down in front riser flight - seems the opposite of 'setting it for performance' to me. Not to mention once the spectra gets a 100 jumps or so on the the tail will begin to deflect... Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

When dealing out information, yes I do. She's a jumper just like everyone else. The fact that she happens to be my wife is totally irrelevant to the situation. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

3-4 LOOSE rolls (i.e don't roll it up tightly) is all you need - just to keep everything in place when you roll it up. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

My wife had a cutaway on her 107 about 3 weeks ago. Hop n pop from 2500 feet. The canopy could be seen in a cocoon shape (rolled tail too tight) after deployement and spun a few times before inflation. Her first kick to get out of linetwists (down to her head) started the canopy spinning violently. She immediately cut away as they were unfixable and altitude didn't permit any other action. Canopy had approximately 300 jumps on it and has had no issues since. Packing is believed to be the cause of this malfunction. Edit: All 300 jumps at the time were done by her with no issues. Another Edit: Jumper loads the canopy 1.3. The jumper was familiar with low hop n pops. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Ahh yes, home sweet home....but seriously, don't let this turn you off of South Africa, it's a beautiful country with beautiful people. It just has it's problems like everwhere else. After all....the USA had Dahmer (sp?). Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Oh and if you're loading the 150 at 2.01 I shudder to think at the monsterous distance you'll get on a velo 120 loaded at 2.5 WITHOUT weights. Dear mother of god it's going to be like hanging an anvil under a napkin and watching it blaze through with the power of a wrecking ball. For the love of god don't hit something or someone!!! I wouldn't change your canopy. While you may not get optimal performance out of it I doubt you're getting poor performance from it. I'm guessing you're just dealing with plain ol' inertia. You're a solid mass moving in a direction and it takes time to change the mass's direction. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
