For me? It didn't happen until I took Brian Jermains canopy class. Where he taught us that after the canopy opens up and is stable and the air is clear, to grab your rear risers and pick yourself up so you "sit" in your leg straps and to mentally prepare yourself for the task at hand which is to land safe and secure on target. Thus for me, that moment of Zen, that moment where all the stress of the world evaporates is when I pull myself up and take a seat and look around of the wonders of the world. At the moment I am a Project Manager. So I'm where I want to be. I just want a change out of engineering. And thank you for understanding that. As for location. I know I know..... Like I said I've had a few people come to me and offer me positions in other engineering companies but look nothing against engineers. But I've done this for 10 years now. The sausage fest was nice but now I need to work in a more diverse field. I need to be in a place where the people are "normal" and "well dressed" and god forbid don’t do really freaking odd stuff such as buy over priced late 80's TDi's and get them to run on Veggie Juice and use said vehicle as a daily driver because it's "cool". No it's ok. I'm looking all over the world at the moment. From NYC to Dubai. Rebuilding one's life is never easy and free of pain. So if that pain is to move to a new country so be it. Did not catch this earlier. A headhunter probably won't talk to you if you are wanting to change careers. I know, it's not going to be easy. Like I said I have a few offers on the table some for really good pay but I'm not interested due to it being more engineering management. I've done that. It was fun. It's time to move on. I would kill to work in NYC! To be around out going diverse people. But I understand it's a huge risk on the part of the company hiring me. After all, 9 years as an engineer.....may not be a good idea in say finance or pharma. Also my network within the industry I am is rather well established and as stated I could always leave my current employer and move to another with a slight bump in pay. There are potential offers on the table as it stands but they are in the very same field I am in, engineering project management. And as it stands I no longer care for the field. I'm looking to take what I've learned as a project manager in the engineering world and as an executive MBA student and transfer it to any other field other than engineering or science. Finance would be nice or pharmaceuticals. So basically a career change. Thus far from what I can tell just sending your resume into a company web page is the equivalent of taking your resume and placing it into the shredder due to the economy.
