Actually, he is the only civilian to own two migs at one time. The rides he sold were expensive, and the proceeds of them went to the Humane Society of Quincy. A few people took up the offer, and the Humane Society realized a tidy profit. Yes, he does own a few L39's and as far as I know, he still may do a ride or two for the benefit of a charity. I am not sure, but you may be able to access more information regarding these planes through National Geographic, or Discovery Wings. skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
  2. Although, but the time the Convention hits, I should have all my mental facilties back. Bluez~~~ Michael Webmaster Michael, thanks for giving me the warning. Does this mean I can lay a bunch of stuff on you at the convention to add to the website? Here I was going easy these last few days...... skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com

  4. I don't intend to hijack this thread, but I wanted to add a little to HOW TO SURVIVE THE WFFC. I have worked in registration for about 5 years now. I have seen some great conventions, and I was there for the worst. There were a few main people who worked extremely hard to make sure that the skydivers who had become such a part of the Quincy community, were thought of as druggies and whores. Although the majority of the Quincy community doesn't believe that, the vocal few spoke their mind to their elected officials, based on the misinformation those few people were working to diseminate. It has come to my attention that those same few BASTARDS have decided that they should come and be a part of the WFFC wherever we locate, and for some strange reason, they assume that it is ok. I want to warn all of my good buddies in the skydiving community, that you may be approached by people to use your name on the registration form so these BASTARDS may gain entry as 'friend of a skydiver'. All of us at the WFFC want this to be the BEST WFFC ever, and the good folks of Rantoul have made it clear that they intend to do everything in their power to make it so. Please be wary if you are approached by anyone who wants to come to the WFFC using your name as entry. If you have any questions about this, please contact me. beth@freefall.com
  5. Thought you might like to know that we have arranged a reduced rate with Amtrak to Rantoul, and Amtrak to Champaign, from anywhere. (that Amtrak still runs) If you click on the front page of the freefall.com, you will find info. If you take the 'City of New Orleans' from Chicago to Champaign, it runs late. We are currently working to set up shutttles from the Champaign and Rantoul Amtrak stations to the convention site. More info on that should follow. Contact me if you want more info. beth@freefall.com

  12. No seriously, I'm in Illinois, am used to taking in the wayward homeless, the last one just left after 3 years. Have 2 extra bedrooms. Oh yah, 2 dogs, Julius and Freefall. If you need a job as a paramedic, and can pass a drug test, I am good friends with the Fire chief.
  13. OOOOOOhhhhhhhh dangle those participles a little closer to ME wouldja???????
  14. ok, just for shits and giggles, anybody know where this habit STARTED? I DO!
  15. My first introduction to skydiving was 5 years ago at the WFFC. After a long weather hold, a skydiver nearly landed in my lap, just as I was leaving the grounds. I turned to my husband and said 'I'm hooked!' Now he follows me (the whuffo) to the DZ. He, on the other hand, would love to get his ratings. (Nothing but cash stopping that) When we returned home after that first experience, we were telling the kids about what a great time we had, and one of them says 'hey mom, I have a confession' Seems he'd spent a little time in the Chicago skies. When I help at the WFFC, I try to figure out what kinds of things there are around for non jumpers to do. We try to get the non jumping family members involved in the day to day operation of the event, and out into the town to see the sites. We figure that if the family is busy, and happy, the skydiver will enjoy himself/herself more. So if you are coming to the WFFC, tell your non jumping family members to come and see me, I really have a lot of good ideas for them.
  16. Registration is 59 bucks. Includes a band every night, free beer, camping in the rough, and the swoop pond, also shuttles around the site. Probably a few other things I've forgotten
  17. Don't forget Franks classic 'Dynamo Hum'. My son pulls it out at Karaoke, to pick up chicks. By god, it works! They all come over to tell him what a shameless sexist he is, and he asks them to explain it over a beer. (Which of course, they buy themselves.....)
  18. two years ago, we had a couple of kids who had hitchhiked to Quincy from Florida. They had been in Florida from England, when they heard about the WFFC. They were obviously living on a shoestring. One kid signed up to jump, the other didn't even get his gear checked, cuz he said he didn't have enough cash to jump. I pulled a $20. out of my pocket, and said "you can't come to the WFFC and NOT jump!" You should have seen his face. You woulda thought I gave him a million bucks. God I love skydivers!
  19. If I won $58 mil, the first thing that I would do is buy 100 units of public housing to put in the middle of a 'holier than thou' community across the river from us, so they could help shoulder the burden a little. The second thing I would do, is buy 1000 jump tickets at WFFC and just pass them out to whomever walked by, just to see the reaction on their faces.
  20. added for Streaker, who is too lazy to get his own account 952
  21. The _ WFFC_ DID NOT charge to use the pond. The WFFC built and maintained the pond for the skydivers, at their expense. We do understand that there were a couple of unauthorized people trying to collect on use of the pond, if you know who took your money, talk to them, and get it back. The registration fee at the WFFC pays for a whole long list of stuff which will be in your registration boogie bags, so check it out, check with registration, check with manifest.
  22. Last year the registration fee at WFFC was $59.00. That included free camping in the rough, nightly seminars, 15 bands, free beer nightly, covered packing areas, full use of the swoop pond, free shuttles from out landings, and beautiful girls at the registration area. Ok, so I just happen to be the old hag at the registration area, but there really were beautiful girls there, and I tried not to scare too many of them off, so hopefully, they'll be there this year, too...I know there was other stuff included, but I'm kinda fuzzy, so if I think of it, I'll let you know..
  23. ahhhhh, but don has something up his sleeve!!
