I recommend waiting a few more months before installing XP SP2 as long as u have a decent firewall and anti-virus and don't use IE.

Anyone ever seen the movie "meet the feebles"?
Sinkster replied to spectrefish's topic in The Bonfire

Your right, I apologize for insulting the intelligence of people there. Everyone I talked to liked it, but I only talked to a small few. Glad to hear that. Btw, I ended up visiting Koln. Very nice! Had some awesome beer at a mircobrewery of some kind there with bratwurst and saurkraut. Love German beer!

Looks good. Too bad no one in the EU will see it even though moore's "documentary" is playing at every movie house there. Not that it would matter. Seems like they want to believe Moore for whatever reason.

I hear ya buddy iàm actually in rome right now and the dollar to euro exchange rate is 1.2-1.3 dollars per euro, PLUS even if the euro was 1 to 1 to the dollar things are still more expensive. mcdonalds is about 20% more here and u have to pay for everything such as ketchups, and eating out at a 'real' restaurant is usually very expensive. no wonder everyone drives small cars so they can afford to buy food! however, i am greatly enjoying myself here, the vatican is amazing so much wealth and ornate work!!! romans ruins are less impressive but still cool. I keep thinking of the movie Gladiator with the colloseum. also i got the phone number and email of a beautiful italian chica here who really likes tall american guys!!

I think most motherboards have jumper settings to reset the BIOS password in case it's forgotten. I would never secure my PC with a BIOS password for that reason except from most 15 year olds who wouldn't know how to get by it. :) Edit: Better hope the 15 year old doesnt discover Knoppix.

LOL, very funny picturing someone meditating about a tv remote. I bet the 'spirits' were highly amused too. -
Get this --> Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT, it just came out, BEST for the money for sure. WAY better than the previously mentioned card and only 150-200$ or so. "With a suggested street price of US$199, the 6600 GT runs at a steady 42 FPS in Doom 3, at high-quality 1600*1200." (probably had fast cpu and lots of ram, but still!!!!) "GeForce 6600 GT cards come with a 500 MHz clock and memory rate, 128-bit (GDDR3, 128 MB) and will cost $200-230, GeForce 6600 with 128-bit bus (GDDR, 128 MB) will cost $150. According to preliminary results and unconfirmed tests GeForce 6600 GT performs 20% better than RADEON 9800XT. "

i know someone who is schizophrenic and sees and hears all kinds of freaky-ass shit (and cool 'good' stuff too) like demons and angels he's definately 'crazy' by our definitions, but some of the descriptions of stuff he sees are so vivid and strange and really detailed. like a permanant acid trip? i read somewhere that people trying to gain some kind of 'enlightment' used to take drugs and try to induce a state like that. *shiver* no way in hell i would ever want to experience that personally! -
His total time in the usa in the past two years was probably 4 months. (nice tax breaks doing that btw) Every place has it's strong points, but I think he meant differences in the sense of overall standard of living and wealth for the population at large. In other words, he doesn't think america is necessarily better in term of culture, climate, etc. (as in our mores or culture is better that theirs), but rather we just have a lot more money and it shows and yes i think there is a jealousy over that, just like there is a jealousy person to person in society. The poor man usually enjoys seeing a 'rich prick' take a fall. And the 'rich prick' will usually defend his wealth tooth and nail.

There is a saying I heard recently from a friend whose passport is so stamped it's thick as a book: "I've seen a lot of places and traveled all over the world, but one thing holds true: There's America, and then there's everywhere else."

maybe cuz there is an adrenaline component to some computer work. yes, i'm serious. anyone else get those "F*CK YEAH!" moments in front of a computer screen? (like when the major component you've been working on compiles and runs perfectly the first time, or you pull off a really clever fix/kludge and it works) coding under pressure can be a nice adrenaline rush (put trance on the headphones and let the mojo flow) i went to a seminar on time management where the presenter said that people who thrive under pressure and adrenaline are also usually very successful in their jobs because they are the ones who are the most productive when productivity matters most (except for the procrastination issue when things are 'slow' ) and they wonder why i don't keep a planner? (gotta induce those 'adrenaline' moments, hehe) P.S. anyone looking for a good ASP.NET programmer? the well is getting dry here (not getting enough custom development projects, just vendor provided software delivery)! i love development too much not to be doing it all the time!!!

Yeah, I agree the chainsaw totally owns. I'm an ammo miser so it's nice to be able to kill things and keep my ammo maxed out a lot easier. The cacodemons really go down easy with it if u do it right. Just have to hide and dodge until they get close then run in real quick. The only things I can't chainsaw reliably are pinky demons, spiders, revenants, flying skulls & babies, z-spec, chaingun zombies, and of course bosses like mancubi. Everything else gets the beavertooth.

Here is a doom 3 hardware guide: http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQ0 The end has some recommendations for the 'ultimate' system which is like a athlon 64 and some high end nvidia card.

ya it's hella fun. the hellspawn demons totally freak u out. only thing as scary (actually scarier) i played was aliens vs predator 2 as the marine, the suspense and ferocity and deadliness of the enemies was better. 1 alien getting too close would fuk u up bad (acid blood) and they were super fast. plus a face hugger would insta-kill u if u didnt see it in time. and it was dark and u had to use a light like doom. doom 3 is easier so far but an awesome game. i like how u have to use the flashlight and u cant use it at the same time as another weapon, although some people don;t like that. regardless, the doom 3 engine is going to make some very sweet games. im hoping for aliens vs predator 3 :)
