  1. y0 Viking, don't sweat it dude. There's a season for everything and just as the seasons change so do our lives. As for worrying about being 22 and a virgin in my opinion that's actually a good thing. Everyone has their own views on this but I personally hold sex to be something too sacred and personal to just share with anyone other than the person I am going to be with for the rest of my life. Heck, I am almost 23 and I am also a virgin by choice with the certainty that waiting will be worth it b/c when my marriage is consumated it will be forever. Would it be nice to be "getting some" right now? Heck yes of course I'm sure it feels good just like snorting cocaine might. But it would be devastating in the long run for my heart and soul so I won't. Now if you really do want to lose what u can only have once and just are not able to then I guess it's a different matter. But I just wanted to add something for you to consider because you're actually very lucky and I personally would not waste it.
  2. On a slightly humorous note I bet a friend of mine a can of red bull that brasil would beat england this morning. Brasil won! w00t!
  3. I read a post from one guy on rec.skydiving that said he started skydiving b/c he totally gave up and was trying to kill himself but instead found a reason to live. Pretty heavy stuff, but in any case it does go to show what an dramatic and wonderful experience we get to have every time we jump! I for one would probably be a *lot* more depressed right now (but u never know what can happen and what's around the corner, etc). While my spiritual life is the most important thing to me and would have kept me going, skydiving itself has augmented that immensely. I am also a quiet person by nature and don't make friends easily (especially since i rarely share the same interests and get bored with small talk and a lot of people so i just do my own thing even if it means i am alone) but my skydiving friends (especially ones i've jumped with) somehow share a special bond. So I would definately be missing out on knowing some wonderful (even the 'drunkards' and 'crazies' i love them all (or try )) people. Whatever the reason, I am so glad to have made that first jump! While it was only a few months ago it seems like a million years and I can't even remember (or don't want to) what I was doing before this.

    Ah, memories...

YAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! hehe i love First Jump Stories. They still get my adrenaline pumping and palms sweating while reflecting on my own.
  5. that's false. "Rumours about Red Bull’s ingredients and effects fuel its popularity as a mixer and run counter to the manufacturer’s reassurances about its harmlessness. Though the company clearly benefits from the aura of dangerous mystery surrounding the product, its website does dispel a few myths, including the rumour that Red Bull is made from bull’s testicles. In fact, the amino acid taurine, though first discovered in cattle, is found in most meats and dairy products. The taurine in Red Bull is synthetic, which, as its makers are keen to point out, make the drink suitable for vegetarians." taken from this page
  6. lol thanx. yeah it was cold. one guy got frostbite in his lungs and at night there were three of us in two sleeping bags zipped together and it was nevertheless a little chilly. i can still remember how cold the area where the zippers met felt. ouch!!! i also couldn't put on my boots and gloves in the morning b/c they were literally frozen stiff. this was when i was still a newbie to this kind of cold btw and stupidly let my stuff get moisture in it (or left it out of the sleeping bag instead of sleeping with it) (many ppl slept with water so it wouldnt freeze and u had to eat pancakes soon or syrup would freeze on them hahaha). One of my motto's now is "get wet = u die" so always wear layers and wicking stuff and all that jazz. It doesn't matter that much in many conditions but when the stuff hits the fan it can get ugly fast without proper precations. I think some of us were just complacent about it and that's what got us, the weather wasn't supposed to be that bad.
  7. I almost froze to death once in the sawtooth mountains in idaho and it was actually pretty pleasant. Eventually u stop shivering and u start to actually feel warm and get numb to it and u can't think very well anymore. The only unpleasantness would be getting frost-bite on areas dispraportionate to the rest of your body. That sort of feels like your outer skin is crunchy hard ice and is annoying. Luckily I made it out with no permananet damage except my hands react to the cold worse now I think. (or it could be just me)
  8. what does it taste like compared to red bull? (if possible to describe)
  9. I haven't found anything that tastes better than the delicious sweet-tart yummyness of red bull so I gotta get my hands on some of that Go Fast stuff! I have looked for it before, but can't find it anywhere. Do you buy it locally somewhere or just order it online or something? I wanna try it! (already got one of their t-shirts anyway (i have a sky systems helmet too))
  10. one reason it might not have affected you is because of the adrenaline already in your system. i know i dont drink red bull at the dz is b/c i noticed that it had hardly any effect when i was already rushing on adrenaline and there was no point since adrenaline makes me super alert anyway (or at least skydiving does)
  11. no way man! I swear it works! don't spoil it for me!
  12. Ok, I'm starting this thread because I noticed that a couple of people at my dz (including myself) are addicted to Red Bull Energy Drink. For the uninitiated, red bull is an energy drink that that does weird and wonderful things to your mind and body. It’s quite a buzz. However, it’s not that I’ve-overdone-it-on-coffee sickening headache buzz, it’s an I-feel-better-than-James-Brown flow that has all my mental and physical parts chiming in together. It's almost like a mini-adrenaline rush! (maybe that's why it's so addicting) I find that it works better than coffee and longer. If I don't drink a red bull in the morning I am tired all day, but if I do I am usually good to go until the whistle blows. One interesting thing about red bull is that it contains a chemical called glucuronolacton (or something) that was used by the US Government during the Vietnam conflict to make soldiers fight harder and longer like gung-ho robots. lol Just make sure you don't overdo it or u will get all "tembly" which is not fun. hehe. So, is anyone else addicted to red bull too or am I the only one? Do *you* drink Red Bull? No, it sucks. Yes, it is the nectar of the gods! It's good for when you need it, but I'm no addict.
  13. Is SDH = Skydive Houston or something else? And if so, is there a web site or any information (if not on this site) on how to get there and if an A license jumper with 33 jumps can jump the balloon? I really want to try that! One of my favorite things to do now is jump from a cessna at 5,000 because of the low airspeed hehehe.
  14. I can't find the original source, but bill von knows about this so hopefully he can clarify. Comment by bill von.
  15. I agree with what everyone said here with the exception of doing a tandem for the first jump. I would consider doing AFF for your first jump. Then you would already be one step closer to your goal, and even if you decided that skydiving wasn't for you the knowledge acquired through the First Jump Course (FJC) and the knowledge of yourself that you gain through "doing it yourself" (although *statistically* AFF is safer than tandem and AFF Jump Masters are there with you in freefall like white on rice) may be worth it. The DZ where I did my first jump wanted me to go tandem, but I didn't and instead went AFF and don't regret it one bit--although I wouldn't recommend that to everyone (I have seen some very scary videos of first jump AFF students who couldn't psychologically handle it.), of course there is also nothing wrong with doing a tandem your first jump either. But if you feel confident that you can keep cool and perform some relatively simple tasks under pressure then go for it. Someone once said "it's not what you have to do that's hard it's where you have to do it at". This is why most of learning to skydive is mental. (in my opinion) Whatever you decide, remember have fun and enjoy the ride! It's not about the destination but the journey!
  16. I quit going to cnn.com because of that lame "NewsPass" thing. Just go to http://www.foxnews.com and you can get the video without any hassles. The story is on the main page. Or you could try logging in as cypherpunk/cypherpunk or any other "universal" combo but I haven't bothered trying.
  17. Can someone copy and rip it to divx and put it on pilot dave's site? (for those sans discovery wings )
  18. I remember hearing somewhere that it used to be common to give Guinness like this in hospitals to replace lost iron or something like that. Probably related to the "Guinness is good for you" ad campaign too.
  19. Experience noted. The only problem then is when the wrong women come after you: Evil seductive temptresses! (my momma says women are the devil!)
  20. lol, it tends to do that. still, you can come have some over here if you want!
  21. Indeed, a very fine beer! Have some in my fridge right now. It's brewed relatively close to where I live so I didn't know if anyone out of state was able to buy it or not. Kinda neat to know.
  22. Where doth one must journey to lay tastebuds on such brews as these?
  23. Guinness Stout on tap is hard to beat.
  24. That's why u need the "pivot" point so she will decide on you just because someone else might take you before she can decide. Basically the old "someone else wants him so he must be worth something" trick. lol, eloquently put.
