  1. This. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. This is why nuggets like this should be saved and brought back up to prevent people like you from even taking a TI course. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. Can you do it? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. Nope. I don't know where you got that idea. Your point about the safety factor of outside video is a very, very good one. It sounds like you ave had some real issues there. Do you have a choice of outside guys to fly with the tandems? I don't understand your statement that flying tandem with a pole in your hand is a good idea. Could you elaborate? Handcam quality sucks compared to outside. You don't list a tandem rating in your profile. Is that correct? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. $31 here. Subtract $6 for a pack job and you're at $25. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. The only one's who like handcam are the ones getting paid to do it. DZO's who operate 182's and can keep expenses and retail prices lower because of them like them. Students who can't afford a full video package like them. Everyone who reaps a benefit from more DZ exposure because of the product like them. TI's who haven't seen a raise in this industry for 20 years like them. TI's who are tired of having to put up with shit head 300 jump wonders hammering into them just because they are the only ones who will do video for crap pay and no product standards, like them. Stop crucifying those that have developed the skill, and have approached the activity with safety first and foremost in mind. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. No... it means that companies with older Otters will be handing them down the supply chain when they get their new Otters. Skydiving is low on the supply chain, but Otters (like other things) will be rolling down hill.
  8. Sounds like YOU should do it for YOUR birthday. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. Those people that you talk about (including yourself) would never have made it into the sport in the first place without the "safety nets" of tandems, AAD's and profit driven DZ's. I love what I do, but find it disappointing how many people I see on a daily basis behave in ways that would have killed them just 20 years ago. There is a regression going on in the sport right now. Sure more people than ever CAN skydive, but the pioneering spirit, the challenge of pushing new limits and riding the edge has died. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. It's already too "safe". There is a growing element of jumper that is able to continues past an initial tandem in this sport because of the "safety factor" that creates more danger to the rest of us. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. Yeah! We suck! How dare we own homes!? We should just rent property from the top 1% like they do in the UK! RIGHT!? Miss the fucking point much? Stop buying homes outside your means...... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. You know if that was any sort of warm day, that landing area would have caused some pretty wicked conditions for any parachute. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. Why? I mean on a deeper level why is it's anyones job to protect fools or the experienced from themselves. We have higher minimum standards for students. We have a culture that should be looking out for low timers. Why stop those that think they can handle a 99sq ft reserve? Enough with the nanny state mentality. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. Agreed. I have more than 1200 AFF jumps and 2 years as a tunnel instructor and I have to add that the EASIEST part of my job to learn and execute is the freefall portion. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. Why? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. ^This. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. Which was precisely my point, but people who didn't actually read the article or tend to gloss over that simply don't want to be questioned about it. The document published by the CA DOJ has no force of law and in fact is in conflict with property ownership laws in the state. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. Do you listen to yourself? If the cops impound your car do you have to bring the bill of sale as proof of ownership to get it back? Do you in fact have a proof of ownership for everything you own just incase you are asked to prove it? Do you understand the simple concept of innocent until proven guilty? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. Or you could shop for a GOOD rig. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. Nearly 12,000 jumps. More than 2500 video. No RSL for the first 13 years. Added a Skyhook RSL this year on the new rig. Decided that I was going to add an RSL so I set a good example for new skydivers. I've trained 100's of students and feel that when they asked about gear choices I need to be "walking the talk" a bit more. It just happened that I purchased a Javelin this year so the SkyHook became an option. Very happy with it. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 21. For the win. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. And the "noise to signal" ratio just went through the roof. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. I can. It was when you implied that anyone who charged extra for a heavy tandem was morally bankrupt for doing so when you have never been in their shoes. No one ever discounted your experience in the sport, simply that you had none in the area you were commenting on. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. You're doing it wrong. I land from a tandem, debrief them and fill out their log book, greet my next student, suit and harness them and train them for the jump. Then I load them on the 100 degree non air conditioned airplane, and ride up to 9,000 feet while I scarf a snack or drink a gatorade, hook them up, train them again, shelp them to the door, exit, do turns, track, good with the camera flyer, and get them to pull. I them instruct them for the next 5 to 8 minutes on canopy control, do some turns, practice landings and talk them through a landing which they assist with. I then shelp the gear in while chit chatting and upselling the skydiving program and second training tandem, drop off the gear ungear them and debrief then and fill out their log book greet my next student, suit and harness them and train them for the jump. Then I load them on the 100 degree non air condit...... Yep. Just sitting around doing nothing for 20 minutes.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
