It seems to be more outdated among those who think they must use the "latest" gear or among those who do not like closing the rigs. Spring loaded pilot chutes work despite their problems, (which are few as far as safety and reliability go). I think that we should train skydivers on gear that most closely resembles that which they will be jumping. Skydivers stopped jumping spring loaded a long time ago. Oh, wait. I did jump a spring loaded main 2 weeks ago. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

The second engine will somtimes only serve to get you to the scene of the crash sooner. Read about the Perris Crash and the MO crash. They both crashed on take off. Nothing anybody could do about those. Not really true. If improperly managed, the good engine of a twin engine aircraft suffering from a single engine failure, can contribute quite significantly to the degradation of the aircraft's flight. The fact that both incidents happened near take off doesn't mean they were or were not recoverable/survivable. What's so different about take off? The workload on a pilot of a twin when presented with a single engine out is much higher than the same pilot in a single with an engine out. There are many more split second decisions/reactions that must happen for the aircraft to be kept under control and landed safely whether on the runway or off field. Things like what power and torque setting, which way the aircraft can safely turn, what rudder pedal needs to be used. Airline pilots have to train these scenarios over and over and over in simulators, skydiving pilots rarely have such a luxury. I would much rather be in an emergency in a single, vs. a twin knowing that many of the pilots in this industry are low time with no sim training. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. They could start by getting all the CS agents and Flight Attendants to take the stick out of their ass. Fuck AA. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
It's not the shuttle, but go here: http://www.vandenberg.af.mil/ to find out when the next launch is, then come here: http://skydivesantabarbara.com/ and jump durring the launch!

I can only think that a far easier and reliable change would be to go to an IAD progression. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

For what reason? Is the aircraft owned by someone else that insists on the shut down time? Do you use an APU for starts? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

You are incapable of having fun without a 270? Sometimes it's a 450. Some people in this sport have chosen high performance canopy flight as their passion. Your question is akin to asking a freeflyer if they are incapable of having fun without freeflying. It's what they do, not just a bonus to their skydive. If you want to have fun freeflying, you're asked to exit after the belly flyers. Doesn't seem to be a problem. If you want to have fun doing a 270, 450, you're asked to land in a designated area. So what's the problem? Where is it? The OP said it hadn't been defined. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

What first Crossbraced from a crossfire2?

The Xaos 27 is my suggestion. But you'll want to load it a bit more than that 118. Try a 108. Precision probably can set you up with a demo..... give them a call. What was your problem in "figuring out the flare?" ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

Sure unstable exits are fun, but I don't do them intentionaly anymore with first time students. Tandems are an introduction to skydiving, not a carnival ride. Are you and Instructor, or just some guy who give people a "ride". It takes more talent to produce stable exits than it does to flop out the door. You have no way of being sure that your student will co-opperate when it comes time to get stable. If you have a premeture drogue deployment you'll be in a world of hurt. Ask Greg Hunter. You are putting HUGE amounts of extra stress on the gear leading to shorter lifespans and damages. Check with the gear owner and see how much they like repair bills and replacement parts. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It would add a machining step adding significant cost. I haven't found any real need for a more "pointy" pin. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Direct from the IRM section on the USPA Tandem Instructor Rating: "All student and jump supervision may be conducted by any USPA Instructor, but method specific jumps (AFF, IAD, static line, and tandem) require the instructor to hold that method specific rating." ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. The problem with making a point on those pins is that they are not "machined" but stamp cut and then tumble polished. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Because Sigma Reserve pins were regularly being bent in the field, by riggers closing containers too tight. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Any kind of coaching? I could see it for belly, but how about for freeflying? It interesting to me, both the opportunities of larger facilities, but also the challenges. Cool stuff, keep it safe.
