  1. Probably not worth the cost of getting them.
  2. It was of a folding design and was transported in a small bay on the decent stage of the Lunar Module. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. Tell that to this guy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQKxAqpjroo ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. IIRC Luigi has typically worn quite a bit of lead in the past jumps on the VX39 to set the wing loading where he wants. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. What sport reserve do you know of that is tested and certified to 180mph, in a tumbling, non symmetrical loaded configuration? Having a larger reserve is rarely a bad idea. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. You're right, a closed nose IS more efficient, as it forms a cleaner leading edge, and improves laminar flow over and around the wing. GL canopies need to be able to inflate, and re-inflate fast, so open nose is preferable. I haven't seen much of the Spire, but the GLX was being constructed with 3 center cells open and outboard cells restricted as a compromise, using cross-ports to aid in the inflation/pressurization of the outboard cells. The slower openings with he closed nose are a by-product. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. And how many of those people have genuinely asked themselves is it worth overloading my main or reserve with the risk of a premature whilst freeflying? It's easy to be blaise about this stuff but even a single size up can make or difference that might just save your life. the margins we use in all in flight testing are there to allow us some buffet before we come of the rails why put yourself by the rails from the outset? From purely a devil's advocate point of view, a smaller canopy has a better chance to survive a high speed opening. Conversely when you blow up a reserve, it's probably better to have more fabric overhead.
  8. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> What is "PCA" in plain english? "Pilot chute assist", it's a BASE term, akin to a static line but usually a smidge faster. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. Call around to your local flight schools and ask if they offer a "Discovery flight". They are usually about $80, and you can always ask if they'll do a longer one. Be upfront about why you want to do this, whether you want to lear to fly or not, but just learning a bit more about flying might help you manage those fears easier. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 10. Bull. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. You owe me 3 minutes of my life. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. I believe that a/the company is still doing conversions, but that the crash was a significant set back. See:http://www.penturbo.com/html%5Ctcp.html ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Under most of the TSOs, manufacturers have to prove that their reserve will survive opening shock with 254 pounds or more. However, no-one believes that a 254 pound skydiver's ankles will survive landing a tiny reserves (i.e. PR97) so they "derate" reserves to get rate of descent below 17 feet per second. Unfortunately I've met someone who used to be in the gear business that sold people reserves based on the TSO'd max. Suggested that a PDR99 would be fine for someone like me. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. First we'll need SONY to make a camera that can Buffer more than 3 images. AFAIK that's all the current cameras can do while recording and they don't write their information till the recording has stopped. PS tell your friend I got his message, and will try to call back tomorrow.

    Suit

I've used my FliteSuits (Bomber Freefly) for tunnel and sky. Avoid 2 piece suit, the top won't stay down in the tunnel without the harness to hold it in place, and whatever suit you get, get a reversed/big plastic toothed/covered zipper or any combination of the previous, as the net takes it's toll on standard jumpsuit coil zippers pretty fast. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 16. Nope. I am over max recommended on my PDR126 however. Remember, TSO, and max recommended weights are different in many cases. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. Remember, because of the snag, the P/C has lost the "snatch force".(no jokes you sickos!) On a completely unrelated note, the reserve side jumpmaster would do well to hang on to the student's arm grip and add some stability to the skydive, especially around pull time. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 18. Crossbracing reduces distortion of the wing from load factor. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. Another one for ya.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YydkHy2P0dU ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. That whole point might make sense if I said anything about canopy skills or such. Point is, someone with tunnel time will wipe the floor with you in free fall without vast vast experience over their tunnel time + actual free fall time. Nope, that's also untrue. I've done plenty of skydives with great tunnel flyers. Some were accomplished skydivers as well. Someone who's only trained in the tunnel is pretty lost on a tracking dive at first, or exiting 15th from a trail aircraft, or tracking away from a 30 way, or simply docking last on that same 30 way. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. Ground launch. Your roof. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. Pardon the expression but: Bullshit. You said it yourself..... Being a great skydiver has much more involved than being a good "faller". He'll be able to fly a canopy better, pack better, do group skydiving better, possibly wingsuit, know more about and be able to use gear, have better freefall survival skills, CRW, the list goes on. The tunnel is a great training aid for skydivers, and a sport in it's own right for tunnel flyers, but don't get the two confused. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
