Why I jumped a whole Season with a BASE rig from 13K ft...
diablopilot replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
I suggest you stop wearing a thong back. That's might be what's making you get your panties in a wad. I'll leave "nice" to those who are better at it. I'll stick to being "crusty" about helping people learn more about keeping themselves safe. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Not entirely true. I see it everyday from the Skydive Santa Barbara jumpships. We fly out over KVBG up to Point Sal, and back to jump run. And you can drive down to Surf Beach and hike the coast from there as the law states the Beach is public property up to the mean high tide mark. But it is easier to see if you have BASE access.

I heard a rumor they didn't do that anymore. But I'll buy you a jump next time I bump into you, if you'll jump with me.

I think Aggie's point (and mine as well) is that if you NEED the Y mod for pear shaped students, they shouldn't be jumping. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Difference in skills required: AFF instructor requires the ability to perform a harness hold exit, dock, roll over and stabilize an out of control student, deploy for student. Difference in responsibilities: See above. Lower limit for performing said actions is 2000ft AGL. Edit: Applies to freefall skils only. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Why I jumped a whole Season with a BASE rig from 13K ft...
diablopilot replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
That quote is why. What would you have us assume the "peacemaker" is? You may trust your rigger totally, but I don't, there for I get involved in what is going on. And I don't assume the reserve on my back is a guarentee either, it's another tool I use to reduce risk. Have you asked your rigger if you can watch? Have they declined your request? Who's packing for you anyway? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Good Deal or Not Total paid $550.00

Freeflying came first (or some might have been calling it Freak Flying). However then came high speed premature openings and gear maintenance issues that used to be able to be overlooked. Then came freefly friendly gear. -

That's great that you have that level of trust. I don't. What exactly makes you have that level of trust? What good does it do to say you'd visit a rigger with a gun if they ever screwed up? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

diablopilot replied to ucadam's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That is a loophole in the system, but I'd rather we have that then tie the hands of hard working riggers. No need to dumb down things anymore. We tried that with the AFF instructor program, and look what we have now. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

diablopilot replied to ucadam's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ah, but see that's what we're suposed to have riggers for. They are certifying the air worthy condition of the system, not just repacking it. ( I know you know that, just pointing it out for the masses) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

diablopilot replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
Wondered if you'd bring that up. I didn't start working there till more than 6 months after I started jumping (around 130 jumps), and the first repack I had done as an employee (and incidentally the first one I did) was my third on the rig. And I agree, most jumpers don't want to become a rigger, and neither do I really, but I DO want to know all that I can about the stuff I'm putting on my back to save my life, so I do. I just find it to be a sad state of affairs when jumpers spend more time researching their video cameras than they do their reserve systems, and who's maintaining them. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. diablopilot replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don't know. I'd say it's a personal decision for each rigger. I know when I was in gear sales I tried not to sell small canopies to newer jumpers but people will try to tell you whatever you want to hear, and both companies I worked for lost sales because of it. Fortunately they didn't mind not helping someone towards their demise. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
No thanks, I don't really wanna be around the next time you send some first timer out in front of a KC-135. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
