  1. These two..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. Furthermore, a commercial pilot may be paid to fly a privately operated flight. A private party that owns, rents, or leases an aircraft may hire a pilot to fly them anywhere part 91 so long as they have operational control and it is not the pilot himself who is leasing the aircraft. And a DZO may certainly fill the plane with his staff/good customers and fly them to a boogie while paying the pilot to do so. No different than a bunch of fortune 500 execs/clients hopping on the company jet to go to a business meeting. Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm not a licensed pilot. I thought the only people allowed to ride on a plane without being in an approved seat are "skydivers onboard with the intention of making a parachute jump" - or some such FAA lingo as that. I assume that within the bounds of this conversation, the ferrying in question is in a jump plane set up for jumping. What have I missed - other than the "they were onboard to make a jump...at our destination". Jump plane operations are restricted to a 25 mile radius from the point of departure. Demo jumps sometimes recieve exceptions to this rule. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. That's be Karen Lewis.... LewMonst is her DZ.com name.
  4. That is already in place, it is called the certificate holder.... Suprise, if you've got an FAA ticket in you pocket, you are actually responsible for something. The regs are there, the FAA is there, and they are trying to do their job. The last Inspector I talked with gave me the old "you guys in the field are the best and first line of enforcement". The problem with that is those that are making the decisions, and should be held responsible (the owner/operators) don't have to have any certificate. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. Parallel to the USPA's efforts to keep the FAA at bay, the USPA needs to keep those it represents at bay. Education of jumpers as to the dangers, and regulations of skydiving aviation, and discipline of operators know to be in violation must be a priority. The USPA will become unsuccessful in keeping the FAA at bay if it can't police it's own. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. Agreed. If it ever becomes a certified A/C it would be a great jumpship in the States. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. [sigh] Too true. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  8. If the Cyres units were bought from the same store, then the close serial numbers are not that weird. The few distributors in the US (there used to only be 8, probably not many more now) buy in batches, and any other resalers of the units are probably buying from them. As for the $70, if I were a rigger with customers who had affected units, I would mention to them that they are getting $70 from AirTec for their troubles, and as a rigger doing work for the customer, I would bill for my time as normal. Common rates for an open and close without repack range from $15 to $20, and a repack is between $50 and 70 these days. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. That is the scary part. If you try to get them (the FAA) to replace just one rivet, they're just as likely build a new airframe around the defective rivet. I don't have a good answer, which is why I try to choose where I jump wisely. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. I'm pretty sure P&W is publicly running away from association with jump operations as fast as they can. Probably the same way they distance themselves with anyone who operates their products over TBO. Of course evidence has shown that they build a great product that can be run well over TBO safely, but they won't back you up if you do. As for Cessna, well all they have to say is "What do you expect with 20 to 30 + year old aircraft?" If the FAA were to have any measurable effect, It might be in the case of making some sort of Drop Zone Operator's Certificate/Rating. At least then operators/owners would have an actionable rating to be violated, and there for would be less likely to push others into taking risks they'd not face themselves. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. I like sentiment your ideas have but fear that it won't make much difference at all. For every regulation created, a loophole will be found or someones signature can be bought. And over regulation will spell the death of the sport as we know it. The Aircraft we are using in this industry were never designed for the hours and cycles that we used them to. Cessna never planned for their light GA products to do 10,000 hours, or 30,000 cycles, but that's all some operators think they can afford. I'd like to believe that if more time and effort is spent by this industry as a whole to educate jumpers of the dangers of improperly maintained and operated aircraft, and the additional dangers of unqualified, or reckless pilots, then those same jumpers will stop doing business with shady operators no matter how attractive the price. I might be a bit naive. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. What do you mean by "larger"? I believe Parachute Center is now using Sigmas? Are you using large mains (i.e. Precision 400, or Sigma 395), or larger Drogues? Is Parachute Center still putting heavies out at 6000 ft AGL? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. It's a Service Bulletin, not an Airworthiness Directive. Might sound like semantics, but they are different.
  14. This bears repeating! I see people get on the plane with leg straps loose as all get out, and when I say something, they look indignant. Understand this: If anyone reading this is the type to get on with loose legstraps, and the pilot orders us out in a hurry in an emergency situation, I will NOT be waiting for ya to get things "adjusted". I WILL go through you if you are between me and the door when it's my turn to leave.
  15. Gypsy Moths. Fandango. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. [sigh].....YouTube strikes again..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. A few hundred AFF jumps and you'd think I'd have learned by now. A few months ago I'm doing an AFP Level 1 with one of our pilots> He waives off, reaches pack, and pulls, punching me dead in the nose! Cut ahead to last month, I'm doing an AFP L1, and just barely duck the students punch again! One day I'll learn! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. Don't puke on your instructors in the airplane, and make sure your shoe laces are not tied together. Other than that, have fun!
  19. Exactly. I'm recommending people start wingsuiting as early as AFF L3, or on their first static line, but then they need a REALLY big suit. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. You really want to take FEMA's advice? The triangle theory has merit. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. Bingo! Kudos to you for being a thinking skydiver!
  22. Yes. Soft. Easily. Tip toe standup. 190lbs student. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. Totally dependent on the altitude of the emergency exit. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I would not kick her out of bed for wearing socks. And I don't mind high heels, but I am not a huge fan of "stripper" shoes with the chunky platform.
