My screws are still there. Then used bone screws and titanium washers..The bone kinda just grew over it. You should be able to get back to 101% but it will take time, commitment and a bit of pain. I had my right knee done in 93'. I went thru 4 months of intense therapy, 3 days a week 2 hours a day. My Dr. gave me a custom built titanium kneebrace to use for the next few years. I still ski with it, however that is about it (saftey blanket). I play hockey, skydive, snowboard, gymnastics...just about everything else I can think of, and have had no problems. However It was about 2 years before I would start doing this stuff with out a knee brace. I gave my leg a fair amount of time to rebuild itself post surgical. My leg suffered quite a bit of atrophy. I was 20 at the time, and am 29 now. Other then my knee becoming a better weather forecaster then the weather guys it has been a good thing having it fixed. I do have times when my knee's (yes both) will hurt like hell from too much activity, but that is more of an "out of shape" problem really I had a clean snap of my Left ACL, no other damage. They used a graf of my Hamstring tendon instead of using the patella(sp?) tendon as I am very active in high impact sports. 2 main things I recommend you should be concerned with.... 1. If your doctor has any intention of casting you go elsewhere. You should be put in a full length locking knee brace that allows controlled movement, or something similar. 2. You should be starting therepy almost directly after surgery. I had my knee done at Vail Valley Medical Center in Vail, CO. I was a ski bum at the time. I had surgeory at like 10am, they had me down in a CPM machine the entire hospital stay, and had intended for me to start PT at 7pm that night, however I was very ill from the vicodine, so I started the next morning. They kept me inpatient for 3 days since I was moving back home (kinda hard to work a 3 floor B&B on crutches, no work, no place to live) I had them take me off the CPM machine one night for 4 hours. Holy crap....my knee stiffend up. I was scheduled to fly home 5 days after I was released from the hospital. So there was a 7 day laps in my PT sessions....I went from a 90 deg bend back to 30 deg bend. It sucked!!! If you do what they tell you, and keep it moving with out over doing it...it will all be good. People asked me what it was like having a torn acl. Its a lot like the same theory as having a chair with 3 legs...if you lean the wrong way over ya go... Ok, done rambling. Does your DZ have a drug testing policy for Staff members?
eeneR replied to WFFC's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am kind of curious...Um When did it become a legal right to take drugs? All this debate about where it is legal or not to test since when was it our right to consume illegal substances like MJ or X? I understand there are the chances of having a false positive, I have had to drug test for every job i have ever had. Never once did I worry. The one thing that has to be in place is policy that states if you have the right to protest the results if you feel they are wrong. You should have to retake right then and there, no time for the Golden Seal or Magic tea or powders. This would help resolve the issue of the people who are clean losing a job for no reason. I personally know 2 people who lost there jobs for smoking dope, one being my ex-husband (part of why he is my ex) They deserved to loose their jobs, they did not abide by written company policy and LAW!!!! Both were CDL Licensed 18 wheel semi-truck drivers. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto -
Student Rigs...how long do people normally use them?
eeneR replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One thing you may want to keep in mind...In most DZ's the actual students get priority on the student rigs. So if they are busy you may be SOL... Just a thought She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto -
It is not just SDC doing this...there are a few DZ's that are drug testing. I personally think it is something that should be in place. Im sorry that some people feel that this is an obstruction of privacy, however at this point these drugs are still considered illegal in the U.S. (with the exception of boose). You choose to play you must be willing to pay. Just as I think truck drivers, pilots, bus drivers etc need to do this, others lives are in their hands. There is no room for error. I dont think it is fare to the students to take the risk of the possible chance the TM or JM is a drug user...Heck all professional athletes are tested, as far as im concerned JM and TM are really professional athletes.... As for this being a marketing ploy, maybe it is...we had two jumpers go in with drugs in the blood stream. He needs to save face and show that he is doing something to resolve the problem. Andy, Im glad to hear that chicagoland tests. Im sorry you took it as a jab to your DZ about the drug testing, when really it does not apply to you guys since your testing already. Memorial Weekend May 24-26th Team Funnel will be hosting the Second Annual Team Funnel Memorial Boogie and Big-Way Invitational at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, IL In the Fall of 2001, we lost three members to tragic accidents. In honor of these members, and in honor of all passed skydivers, Team Funnel held the first annual Team Funnel Memorial Boogie on Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Skydive Chicago, in Ottawa, Illinois. With an estimated 200 skydivers in attendance, we succeeded in raising over $5400 for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Illinois at this event, making one child’s wish come true!

Heh...well over a year now that I have been dating a skydiver from my home DZ. I would not change a thing. It really depends on the individuals...are they mature enough to be in a relationship at the DZ...if it falls apart it falls apart, if one party does something stupid well then that is another story. It all comes down to maturity level of the parties involved..... She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

This is still a bankruptcy non the less....had he filed Chapter 7, well then he would pretty much have nothing left to fly. He is filing chapter 11 to save the business. He must keep vigilant with the maintenance of the planes, who he has flying for him and how things are handled. Things will not be all peachy keen $$ wise. It is a difficult thing to go thru. Corners will have to be cut to make ends meet. It is what corners he chooses to cut to make ends meet that will make or break him. The ball is in his court. (to everyone) [getting on soap box] As for Chris having hidden agendas or bashing...BAWHAHWAHAA right whatever. He spends so much of his free time to make this sport safe for all of you. What do you do? You rip him to shreds. How may of you actually know Chris? most dont, maybe some have chatted with him across PM or IM. The internet is a very fake world, things can be assumed or taken any which way you want seeing as there is no real way to portray emotion. I can tell you first hand that he was very concerned about the safety of all of you. There was no vendetta here, he is not "out to get" Fayard. That was implied by others feeling or emotions to the fact that their lift to the sky may be gone. No one not even Chris wants to see Fayard go under, we would rather see him get thru this and fly safely. This is all he wants for all of you...To be safe.
