    Interesting question. Air (N2, O2, CO2 mostly) would certainly stratify into layers if it could, but my guess is that there is way too much mixing energy from wind, including thermal up/downdrafts. There is also Brownian motion, but that probably isn't enough stirring action. I'm pretty sure that if you filled a column with air and sealed it in a dark, temperature controlled space, there would be some stratification, with the heaviest of the three, CO2, at the bottom. Thanks , I see what your sayin'. Water's way heavier than air but it's still up there I know. But how much CO2 could be up there at that weight? And for how long? Blues, Cliff 2muchTruth
