Does anyone "Psycho Frog Modified Pack"?
glgflyer replied to Parafoil27's topic in Safety and Training
Does the canopy seem to stay together doing it that way and not squirt out the sides as you roll it? I know when I psycho pack I simply pro pack it up until it's time to lay it down. Then I flip it 180 degrees and lay it down (nose facing up). Then I criss-cross the corners of the tail across the entire canopy. This holds everything in place. Then I fold the ears over and roll it up. But I am definitely going to try it your way because I like the idea of not flipping the canopy and then having to flip it back. -
Does anyone "Psycho Frog Modified Pack"?

Hi Parafoil, I am interested in knowing more about your packing method. I use the psycho packing method now and I LOVE it. It is so easy to get in the bag. Can you explain your pack job in more detail? If I understand what you are saying correctly you don't flip the canopy 180 degrees before rolling it up. Is that right? -
iamsam, That's good information. I'm a little slow I guess. What exactly do you mean by: Dab, spot and lift. Do you mean don't rub with the baby wipe at all? Just dab the spot and then let it dry? Thanks

Thanks guys. Think I will just brush it off and leave the washing to my rigger. Again, thanks for the advice.

I recently bought a used Javelin container. Everything is black except for the top flap that covers the closing pin. It is light green and blue. I want to clean this flap as it is showing some soiling. The rest of the container looks great. My question is can I safely clean it using woolite and water and a brush with the rig packed since it is only the top flap or do I need to take the canopies out to do this? Thanks

That's great Dan. Did you do the packing or did someone else do the packing for you? Were the stabilizers folded around the steering lines? Just curious to know. As time goes on I think you will really like this packing method more and more because of it being so much easier. But remember, don't worry about how fast you pack, only worry about how neat you pack. The speed will increase as time goes on.

First of all, I am definitely not an expert at psycho packing, but I will tell you this. I bought an almost new pilot 168 and when I tried to pro pack it I could not control it at all. I struggled and struggled trying to get it in the bag and simply was making a mess of the pack job. Then I started reading and learning about the psycho pack method. I watched videos, read the forums here at DZ.com and finally I even called George Galloway who is one of the inventors of the psycho pack method. Well, to make a long story short I will never go back to pro packing. Psycho packing is MUCH easier to control while you are putting it in the bag. All my openings have been spot on so far just as George said they would. I do fold the stabilizers around the steering lines as it only makes sense that that will help eliminate a possibility of the lines migrating around in front of the nose and causing a line-over. If you try this pack job a couple of times you will LOVE it (in my opinion). It has made jumping fun again. But please understand, I never could seem to get the hang of pro packing like most other jumpers have, so I am not saying it is better, I'm just saying it is much easier for me.

Thanks for the info guys. My canopy is also a pilot 168. I have been psycho packing it without the extension. And you guys are right. The openings are GREAT! I do realize you don't have to have the extension but I ended up letting my rigger put one on this weekend. It is about 9 inches long. It does seem to work a little better with the extension because now I don't have to pull the attachment point of the canopy out to the side before rolling it up. It actually looks a little neater also. But I have another question that does not concern the extension. When I roll the canopy I can't seem to get the roll to look as tight as the videos I have seen. If you have any tips to help me with this I would appreciate it very much. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Idodsick.

How long should the bridle extension be for psycho packing a Pilot 168 canopy?

Thanks Gary. Very valuable information.

Thanks for the input. It has been very helpful.

Does anyone know what the factory recommended closing loop length is for a Javelin J3 container (not the newer J3K)? I have the owners manual but can't seem to find this information. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Captain Stan. That's what I needed to know.

Could someone tell me what is the standard length risers that comes with a Javelin container?

I can't find a volume chart on the sun path website, only a square footage chart. How do I get to the volume chart on their site? I would like to see it if it exists. Thanks

Thanks Ronaldo! That was exactly what I was looking for. And you're right, this is an excellent web site.

What is the square footage of the Raven-I reserve? I think it is 181 sq. ft. but does anyone know for sure?

Thanks guys for all these helpful responses. After reading what you guys have said, I decided that just cold water and a rag would be safest. The top skin was the worst part on the canopy so that was all I was going to clean. I ended up spreading it out in my living room floor. Then I used a cotton rag and cold water and washed one cell at a time. Then I set a fan up to blow across that cell. It was totally dry within a couple of minutes. I did all 9 cells using this method. It didn't remove all the dirt but it looks 100% better than before I cleaned it. Again, thanks for the help.

I recently purchased a Pilot 168 with 100 jumps on it from someone in Nevada. The canopy is in perfect condition except for one thing. It has a lot of dust on it, I guess from the desert conditions out west. I need to know if it will hurt the canopy to spread it out and use a wet rag or towel to try and remove the dust. Any help and opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I realize this is a question of opinion but what is considered by most to be the best or most reliable audible altimeter to backup my Alti-2 Galaxie?
-
My son recently ordered an RW suit from the same place. We called them to ask that same question about the shoulder to lateral measurement. They told us the shoulder to lateral measurement was only necessary if you were getting a camera suit in which a wing was to be used. They only need that measurement to know where to install the wing. So unless you are needing a wing you will simply leave that measurement blank on the order form. Hope this helps. Blue Skies!!

Thanks to all who responded. I really appreciate all the opinions and information. It really enlightened me on some issues I never thought about.

I am about to buy a new altimeter. I wear glasses so I have to wear over-the-glass goggles. I have always used an altimaster II analog altimeter. I was wondering if a digital altimeter like the neptune or viso would possibly be easier to read in freefall or should I stay with what has worked for me for many years. Any pros and cons of going digital would be appreciated.

Thanks very much guys. If I am understanding correctly it has nothing to do with the opening of the canopy but only that you can control it better while rolling it up. Again, thanks for the input. You all have been very helpful.
