  1. Believe it or not I just returned from walmart. They had a small pencil type wood burner for 10 bucks and it already had the sharp edge on it like you are talking about. I said for 10 bucks, what the heck! I bought it and it works perfectly! Now for the tie it and forget it question. I use the common type IIa material for closing loops. I had one loop I had made and did not burn. In a short time it was unraveled all the way to the knot. Does this cause a possibility of the knot slipping when you put the tension on it to close the container? As I said above, the wood burner works great. However, it does result in a very hard end on the closing loop. But, as someone stated above, that should be covered by the material behind the grommet. So, with all that said, I guess the verdict is still out on whether to burn or not burn. Comments from anyone else would be very welcome here. Thanks.
  2. Thank you very much Mel. That is the info I needed.
  3. Oh, ok. I just assumed they needed to be burned to stop fraying so that is what I have been doing. I do know if they are not burned they will definitely fray all the way to the knot and I just assumed the fray could work its way slowly through the knot. I don't remember seeing any that was not burned, but then again, I usually just pay attention to mine. Maybe someone else can chime in with their opinion.
  4. When making closing loops, is it better to cut the ends with a hot knife or is it ok or just as good to cut with scissors then burn the ends with match or lighter. Also, will just any cheap hot knife with a flat tip work for this since this is all I will be using it for? Thanks
  5. Yep. I just received mine in the mail about 30 minutes ago! Can't wait to get the altimeter mounted.
  6. If you will take a look at post #4 in this thread, you will see that I corrected myself from what I stated in the original post. We are NOT talking about a ZP reserve. We are talking about a low pack volume reserve made from the honeycomb weave design. But thanks for the info anyway.
  7. That's a very neat idea also! I like the way it is positioned between the thumb and forefinger which gives it a perfect angle to read without having to turn your wrist so much.
  8. Your plug worked. I just ordered mine. LOL
  9. I noticed they have 2 sizes, standard and large. Which size would you recommend? My hands are not big but on most jumps I wear gloves (baseball batting gloves). I'm thinking standard will work but not sure. Your thoughts?
  10. I'm thinking about trying this one: http://www.ranchproshop.com/accessories.php?brand=28
  11. Hey man, that's fine if you really want to feel that way about me simply because you thought I didn't agree with exactly what you said. But if you will look back at the two replies I made to you, I think you will see that I never agreed OR disagreed with you. I simply made a couple of statements that are absolutely fact. First, I said "Remember, just because you are HEARING these things does not exactly make it TRUE." Second, I said " Yea, I think I remember hearing some similar remarks from people when zero porosity was first tested also. Or, for that matter, even when ram airs first hit the testing market." Both those statements are nothing short of being fact. So, if you want to use the fact that I choose not to spread some of my personal information out across the internet to pound me with, then that's fine with me. I can take it, and I can take it and not feel hard at you. But remember, I do have a right to an opinion just the same as you do. My original post was about trying to get some information about when this low pack volume reserve from Aerodyne might be available. It wasn't about getting someone's opinion concerning what they think about the concept itself. As a result of my post, I got the information I needed and that's what it was about. Also, I actually feel bad about getting into this type conversation on these forums as it is very much out of my character. If you will take a moment to scan through all the posts I have ever made here I think you will see that for yourself. Hope you have many years of happy jumping ahead. Blue Skies
  12. _Am Oh yes. The ole "you didn't fill out your profile so you can't be taken seriously and profiles can't be faked so the info must be real" response. Gotta love it. I couldn't have said it better myself.
  13. Yea, I think I remember hearing some similar remarks from people when zero porosity was first tested also. Or, for that matter, even when ram airs first hit the testing market.
  14. Remenber, just because you are HEARING these things does not exactly make it TRUE.
  15. I just received a reply back from Aerodyne and I was wrong. It will not be made from ZPX but will be a low pack volume honeycomb weave. Here is the actual e-mail from Aerodyne: "We will be offering a reserve in a low pack volume honeycomb material but it will not be ZPX. We are still in the testing phases and do not expect to be able to offer that until the beginning of next year at the soonest. Thank you Sandy Kimball Aerodyne research"
  16. I was told by the Aerodyne Rep (I think Les was his name) this past March at the St. Patricks Day Boogie In Fitzgerald, Ga. that they were actually working on a reserve using the ZPX material then. He indicated that there was a possibility it could be ready for release by years end but I have heard nothing since that time. I sent an email to Aerodyne about a week ago inquiring about it but have not received a reply. I will probably just give them a call this week and actually talk to a rep and see if they are making any progress.
  17. Has anyone heard any updates as to when Aerodyne might be releasing a reserve canopy with the new ZPX material?
  18. Yea, I can't believe how much stronger these are! On the ones I just purchased the edges do not seem sharp at all. Some of the standard flat washers I have been using have VERY sharp edges. I am very glad to have been directed to these rivet backers. I am very surprised that all drop zones and riggers don't know about these.
  19. I picked some of these up today. They are much stronger and the edges don't seem to be quite as sharp as regular flat washers. I will definitely be using these from now on!
  20. Thanks Brian. I will definitely try these!!!
  21. Thank you very much! Heading to Lowes tomorrow.
  22. Can someone tell me the size of the stainless steel washer that is used on closing loops? I think I read somewhere that it was a size 8 but the number 4 sticks in my head also so I am not sure. Thanks in advance.
  23. Thanks to both of you. This answers my question.
  24. Is there a designated right and left riser when you buy a set of risers, or does it matter as long as the rsl ring is on the correct side? More specifically, if I have a set of risers on a rig with the RSL on the right side, can I use these risers on a rig that has the RSL on the left side by just simply swapping sides with the risers or should the right side always be the right side and the left always the left?
