Senators, White House Reach Agreement on Immigration
narcimund replied to SkyChimp's topic in Speakers Corner
Just a minor correction. I LEFT the united states. I'm a permanent resident of Canada. But the point is largely irrelevant. I did follow all the rules, filled out mountains of beaurocratic forms, paid many thousands of dollars, and revealed intimate details of my history to the authorities who can now use and abuse that information as it sees fit. Of course I trust the canadian government is at least partially guided by decency and respect. If I were trying to immigrate into the U.S., I'd be scared to death to open my life up to that bloodthirsty government. First Class Citizen Twice Over -
Lessee... a million careful, objective measurement and a couple of centuries of astrophysics and mathematics lead humanity's smartest thinkers to irrefutable conclusions which are not yet completed ... ... or one old novel, badly edited by committee then mistranslated and clearly formed from hearsay, hyperbole, and political self-justifications says we all have an invisible friend who sometimes gets really angry and plays favorites based on personalities, idolization, random factors of birth, and ass kissing ... Um. I'll have to think about this one for a while. It's REALLY close. First Class Citizen Twice Over

Many people vastly prefer living fantasy lives of non-viable options to actually solving problems. First Class Citizen Twice Over -
Something came from nothing, exploded, and became an organized everything. ................Absurd? Uh huh... What does it say about your intellectual honesty that this is the only one of Jakee's questions you respond to? First Class Citizen Twice Over

I just read Not Wanted on the Voyage which reveals the truth about Noah and what REALLY happened to the unicorns. It's not pretty! First Class Citizen Twice Over

Their writing is fantastic. I learned a new word from their press release: "irrefragable". And they used "lucre" TWICE! How cool is that? First Class Citizen Twice Over

It's easy to get mad. It's harder to think through the issues, see all the complicated effects, acknowledge both the pros and cons and consider them as a whole, then come to a thoughtful conclusion. First Class Citizen Twice Over

I'm going to try to make an instructive point in big bold words but it's going to be lost anyway. Oh well, here we go: I WAS ILLUSTRATING YOUR ERROR. THAT 'FAKE' LOGIC LESSON WAS ILLUSTRATING WHAT YOU HAD DONE! I'M QUITE AWARE THAT IT WAS BULLSHIT. I WAS MAKING FUN OF YOU! You may now proceed to misunderstand. First Class Citizen Twice Over

OooOooOoo... I'm so confused... {wobble}... What's going on here? Willard says he's got it all nailed down and everyone else doesn't get it... It must be so... His strength is all I have left now... First Class Citizen Twice Over

It's funny to watch you repeatedly make logic errors then when you're corrected you announce that you're the one correcting them for the same error. Does that technique confuse your professors? Do they give you better grades in their muddle? "Huh," they say. "Huh, I thought willard made a mistake but he says I made the mistake. I guess I'll just give him an 'A+' and sort it out later." It actually sounds to me like there's a manufacturer with astounding political influence. I'm all for people making high quality products and making money from it, but when politically influential businesses profit from war you've got a positive feedback loop -- which is ALWAYS a bad idea. What comment are you talking about? All I said was that you were talking confidently about knowing more than the general scientific community. I asked you where you got your info. You said you read a blog. How again does that exchange reflect that I'm "brainwashed"? First Class Citizen Twice Over -
The 26 most common climate myths and misconceptions

Oh come on. You can't be done repeatedly quoting my entire post just to add yet another one liner. I'm sure you can do it three or four more times. First Class Citizen Twice Over -
INTRO LOGIC DEMONSTRATION #1: Kallend: "Here's a similarity between A and B." Willard: "There's no similarity. I'll prove it by showing a difference!" And this concludes our lesson in introductory logic. First Class Citizen Twice Over

The 26 most common climate myths and misconceptions

Me: "Hey man, there's a fork stuck in your head!" Man with fork in his head: "No there isn't." Me: "Yeah, it's right there! It's jammed into your head. Blood's coming out. That must hurt terribly!" Man with fork in his head: "Prove to me there's a fork in my head." Me: "Uh... feel it! Look at the blood coming down your face. Look in a mirror." Man with fork in his head: "That proves nothing. There's no fork in my head." Me: "You're nuts! It's right there. Hold on, I'm getting a doctor." Man with fork in his head: "You'll do no such thing. There's nothing wrong with me. You can't prove there is." ... {wanders off, bleeding some more...} First Class Citizen Twice Over -

Hell, if you don't know how would I? I only respond to your posts Then where in my posts have I expressed an opinion about which side in the global warming is correct? (In fact you're NOT responding to my posts. You're responding to your own guesses about me. But then again you're also convinced by your own guesses about lots of things including your opinion about global warming.) First Class Citizen Twice Over -

More than likely you're going to do several things in this order: A) Deny it's getting warmer B) Admit it's getting warmer but deny there is any insulation C) Admit there is insulation but deny it's insulating D) Admit that it's insulating but deny you can do anything about it E) Admit you could do something about it but point out the earth was once molten and everything turned out ok in the end F) Melt. If you program in Perl, Please read this post!
narcimund replied to sd-slider's topic in The Bonfire
I own a web development company that does a lot of work in e-commerce. We also write all sorts of custom website apps and generally use perl (unless the client has some special requirements.) It looks like the OP was doing data center work. Perl's pretty common for sysadmins. I can see why meteorologists would like perl. You guys get tons of formatted text data don't you? Perl just loves chewing on that. -- To the OP: Some of your regexes look funny to me. What's the "\" doing at the start of your PPP test (and did you mean "\s"?) Are you sure you've got the case right in your tests? If not, toss on a "i" to be case-insensitive.) First Class Citizen Twice Over -
