  1. Find me a person who quietly believes in the inferiority of homosexuals yet does NOT contribute to the actions that disadvantage us, and I'll exempt that person from my criticism. Otherwise, those who vote against gay marriage, beat gay people, and teach their children bigotry can go to hell. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  2. Why thank you! We're very happy together and we have great lives. I appreciate what we have tremendously. That being said, telling me to just appreciate it sounds a lot like telling someone to ignore something you're doing awful to them: "Don't pay attention to this mugging -- just think about the great breakfast you had." Those who do injustice would find it more convenient if I and others like me would just shut up. I'm willing to inconvenience them to that extent. I'm also complex enough to occasionally sit at the computer and tell the bigots among dropzone.com exactly how full of shit they are and then STILL go off and enjoy my life. Imagine that. 3. Thanks a lot! You wouldn't believe the carefully considered, intellectually rigorous PM I just got. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  4. You're calling me "liberal" because it's the only insult you know. That doesn't speak well for your temper OR your vocabulary. On the other hand, you assume everyone accused by the police is a "useless piece of shit". I assume everyone's innocent until proven guilty. Which of us is the better American? I feel like I'm in the twilight zone when self-proclaimed conservatives are defending the state's infallibility and calling me a liberal for defending individual rights. Have you people forgotten ALL of history? I recommend sweetened chammomile tea and a little time away from the computer. You're letting this get to you. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  5. I don't know what world you live in but in Portland if you see twelve mugshots with wounds on their faces, police brutality is an excellent first guess. I also would not put it past Portland's good law enforcement professionals to then publish their handiwork and blame it on the suspects. I lived in Portland for decades and even though I had no personal problems with the police, it's well known that a thorough beating is common treatment. Edited to add: Unlike most people, I take "innocent until proven guilty" seriously. I do not ASSUME that these people are guilty of anything just because the police take a gruesome picture and publish it. I also don't ASSUME the police beat these people either. But I'm aware of the very real possibility and figure others should think about it as well. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  6. Oh like hell! The Great Wet North hasn't gotten below freezing yet. This place is a fraud. I want my money back! First Class Citizen Twice Over
  7. WOW. Are you just going to stalk me and insult me in whatever thread I participate in? It must be all that thinking about my posts in those gay threads. Kinda hard to get me out of your mind, huh? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  8. Because I'm looking at a dozen mugshots where every suspect ("suspect", not "convict") looks like they've been beaten up. That COULD be a coincidence but the Portland police and Multnomah County Sherrif are well known for beating up suspects so I'm suspicious. GTAVercetti says some of the marks look like malnutrition to him. He might be right. That's another possible explanation. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  9. Do you find those words anywhere in my post? If so, what drugs are YOU taking? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  10. Mostly it looks like someone's been beating them up. The Portland police perhaps? They're well known for excessive violence. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  11. Close your eyes for a second ... open your empthy for a MEAGER second ... and imagine if YOUR marriage were put up to a popular vote of bigots? Can you picture that? Can you suspend disbelief enough to encompass that RIDICULOUS fiction? How absolutely grotesque! How ludicrous and outright PREPOSTEROUS an experience that would be! Can you imagine a million superstitious bigots pointing at you and your spouse holding hands and saying "Nope, rejected. Not good enough"? Ok. You can open your eyes now. Back to your nice reality where you can marry the person you fall in love with without subjecting your choice to the approval of people who act largely out of hatred, fear, loathing, and cruelty. Remember that little nightmare you just had? I lived that. Tell me I shouldn't be angry? RIGHTEOUSLY furious! No tell me again sir, how should I view those people? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  12. That might be true but you ARE one of those people who feel other peoples' marriages should be subject to your approval. And that's much worse. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  13. Wow. This is the topic for a different thread but ... wow. You're so INCREDIBLY wrong I just can't begin ... First Class Citizen Twice Over
  14. Fixed it for you. I celebrate your first amendment right to be offensive, nasty, childish, and rude. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  15. I'll leave it to your conscience to decide if you're telling the truth. I very firmly believe some others here DO take joy when others are oppressed. Yes, I did jump at Estacada long ago. Ralph's mysogyny and racism offended me badly. I didn't go back. And your anecdote about a gay person getting along with that crowd made a lot more sense with the closing comment that he didn't expect to be treated like a full human being. I'm sure Ralph and his crowd welcomed black people and women who accepted being treated as sub-human as well. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  16. Is that gloating in these posts? Is that what your little smiley face means? If so, I think we see how much of a lie this touted "indifference" is. And heartbreaking? No, that's too strong. I would have had to expect some other outcome for it to mean that much to me. But yes, when bloodthirsty people choose to destroy out of fear, loathing, or cruelty it does hurt. Does my pain bring you pleasure? Did you just smile a little bit? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  17. For the most part, bottled water is a big pile of hooey. That being said, for the last couple of years that I lived in Portland the tap water made me very sick. I only drank distilled bottled water or imported bottled water or tap water from nearby communities. Here in Vancouver BC the tap water is not only incredibly tasty, it doesn't make me ill. 18. I'm pretty good at math but you might want to look into hiring an off-duty FBI agent. Your facts AND your interpretation are loose. By the way, out of 50 US states, only 1 has "civil unions" for homosexuals. Yet more casual incorrectness on your part. Civil unions might or might not be "good enough" but for 98% of Americans they're not available. Like I said, if Category 5 people don't want something, then they see it as "wasteful" when somebody else wants it. I'm certain of it now. You're DEFINITELY category 5. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  19. If you didn't care, then you wouldn't be in the scope of the original question. But since you obviously DO care, I'll hazard a guess you're in category #5: "Any right that I don't want isn't important enough to give other people." Hey, aren't you the guy who used his psychic powers to magically detect why I moved? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  20. My slant is written in post #3 of this very thread. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  21. I wrote this elsewhere but it's appropriate here too: Straight people, like gay people, have the right to marry any partner the government approves of. Straight people, like gay people, should want the government to get out of the spouse-approval business. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  22. It's too bad you didn't understand what I wrote, but I wouldn't expect otherwise. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  23. I wasn't drawing comprehensive categories to describe the entire human race -- just people who fell under the scope of the original question. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  24. I think you'll find people will offer answers which fall into the following categories: 1) Clearly stated religious or moral opposition based on non-universal premises. 2) Weak practical reasons which obscure or disguise a religious or moral stand. Often accompanied by a footnoted religious/moral position which is usually the real key to their thinking. 3) Weak practical reasons which obscure or disguise bigotry. Often accompanied by a footnoted comment about revulsion, social superiority, or fear of an uprising by oppressed groups. 4) Confusion (i.e.: misunderstandings about the practical ramifications). 5) They personally don't want to engage in it so they don't believe anyone else should.
