What I'm asking is for the principles by which you decide if an example is "ok" or "not ok". Examples (like the factory disaster) are good for double checking if the principles result in intuitively reasonable results, but are hardly good for making future decisions. This leads me to think you want the minimum wage to be scaled according to the worker's personal conditions. If the principle is they should be adequately paid enough to purchase minimal food shouldn't the minimum wage be pegged to their family size? Ok. Free to come and go. There probably is a difference, but I'd spell it out as the difference between dispassionately considering the matter and getting your blood up. Saying calmly (though perhaps with intense conviction) that a crime is horrible and requires a response to satisfy a specific societal goal is probably healthy. On the other hand, competing to graphically describe increasingly extreme sadism is probably feeding an unhealthy inner urge. While I don't dispute their basic point that people should be discouraged from doing bad things, I wouldn't want them as friends. They're almost scarier than the criminals. I think PeterB's comment might be that there IS something wrong with that. Not morally wrong, but psychologically risky. It's commonly thought that a pedophile rehearsing his fantasies in his own mind is unhealthy and should be inhibited. In the same way (although perhaps to a different extent) rehearsing and encouraging fantasies of revenge and cruelty in one's mind is probably not good for one's own personal mental health. I'm thinking of another poster here who regularly posts how he thinks someone or other in the popular news stories deserves to be murdered. Listening to a CBC interview with him now, he's just pointed out that the news in Nicaragua has covered him heavily which brings likelihood of ramifications. And after listening to him explain his situation he sounds very authentic. No, I don't mean he has gay verbal affectations. He talks about his inner gay experience in a way that is either sincere or extremely subtle and informed acting. I don't know if this is a legitimate immigration claim, but I'm convinced that he's gay. * A little more information: The interview with the immigration board took place two years ago. "Haven't had sex in 21 years" now becomes "Hadn't had sex by age 19" -- hardly unique. hehehe. And I like his comment: "I showed pictures to immigration of me with gay friends. FYI, I think most everyone here has caught on that you hash up these threads just to amuse yourself. Yes, you can make a big mess of other people's conversations which is an accomplishment of sorts, I guess. But nobody actually believes that the crap you spew is sincere.
