First of all, I'm not in America. Make of that what you will. Second, I'm widely known on dropzone as a lefty. That's largely because the righties hate my personality more than the lefties do, so by elimination people decide they have me pegged. Third, I'm not sure why you (and so many others) think the fact that I sleep with men (actually, just one man) somehow determines what I think of taxation, foreign policy, nuclear power, gun control, abortion, childhood fluoridation, or state's rights. Since the name of this club refers to otherwise barely connected (or maybe unconnected) people, and the very existence of a name is so fascinating and powerful, I thought I'd try the same thing. I hereby announce the creation of a club called Righteous Protectorate. It includes um... George Bush, Billy Graham, Margaret Thatcher, Osama Bin Ladin, Adolf Hitler, the Westboro Baptist Church, and um ... Bill O'Reilly. (I should admit I don't really know who Bill O'Reilly is but I gather he's an angry person who talks on television.) So does anyone else agree with me that the Righteous Protectorate is dangerous? It's apparently a term coined by Bill O'Reilly to bind a group of people (George Soros, Al Franken, George Lakaff, and the ACLU) who otherwise don't seem to be calling themselves anything in particular. O'Reilly doesn't seem to like them very much. Interestingly, Wikipedia also notes: which addresses both the objectivity of the article and also harkens back to the misogyny conversations here over the last week or two. How 'bout that! A minor difference here is how fictional the story reads. Quotes spoken between the suspects during the crime? Sensationalistic descriptions of torture with spooky hints of worse? This journalist could be a reject from the Weekly World News. And my suspicion from the cheese factor is the whole thing is either made up or blown out of proportion.
