What utter garbage. This has nothing to do with dropzone, or skydivers, or this forum. Nobody here knows these people or the situation. Copying a thread from another website about the middle of someone else's snitty argument is not just pointless muckraking, it's a feeble attempt at muckraking! Dropzone's being co-opted by outsiders to hurt other outsiders. It's clearly meant solely to pick a fight and we don't need that here. Lisa, please clean this garbage up. Wow. When I saw the title of this thread I thought Tom was going to talk about something completely different! First Class Citizen Twice Over

Whether or not that's what happened here, it's a real problem. I had a jump in cold weather once where my heavy gloves got in the way. I had two lost grips on my PC handle before the third attempt worked. One more slip and I would have given up and gone for silver. Clumsy gloves are a BAD idea. Now I use Neumann tackified gloves. They GRIP. First Class Citizen Twice Over

As others are saying, newspapers DO limit the speech they print. If you write an essay for publication in the Washington Post, they're not going to print it. What a surprise! You have absolutely no claim on their printing presses. Get your own. And you have no claim on Sangiro's website. Get your own. Free speech does NOT mean you can speak in other people's forums for free. It doesn't mean anyone has to reproduce or broadcast your speech. Sorry. By the way, you didn't answer my questions about the hypothetical party in your house. Would you invite a whiny, sanctimonious, rabble rouser back? And if you didn't, doesn't that amount to censorship? First Class Citizen Twice Over

What a tired misunderstanding of the idea! These are all examples of free speech under an authority. But dropzone.com is private property. It's more akin to an ongoing party in Sangiro's house than a country oppressed by a restrictive government. I don't have free speech in your home, nor do I deserve it, nor would I ask it. But if I did, do you think the principle of free speech requires you to endure me babbling in your living room? If you throw a party where I make loud, annoying complaints trying to sow discontent among the other guests, do you invite me back? If not, is that the same censorship you're decrying now? Sangiro's asked us to behave politely while enjoying his property. Fair enough! Go whine on your own website. The French Revolution had nothing to do with free speech. It was about free FOOD! I'd still open/resave in photoshop. Since serving it locally still shows the problem, you don't need to re-upload to run the test. Whatever is wrong does seem to be with the image files themselves. I wonder what settings Tom was using when he made the files. First Class Citizen Twice Over

Get that, Sangiro? If you run for US Congress, you must not pass laws that abridge free speech. Until then, dropzone.com is your private property and you can do as you like with it. Cheers. (Why is it that people who don't achieve anything feel they have the inherited right to control other people's achievements? What a strange species we are...) First Class Citizen Twice Over

Not obvious at all. Multiple people including me have said their IE 5.5 on Windows has no problem with these images. Whatever the problem is hasn't been isolated. If I had an affected system available to me I'd start testing. Here are some things I'd try: I'd first remove the copyright protection JS. I'd download the image to see if serving it locally changed anything. I'd resave the image in photoshop. I'd eliminate the HTML entirely to see if the image can be loaded independently. I think that would answer the question. First Class Citizen Twice Over

This is utter and complete nonsense. There is absolutely no difference between Windows and Mac jpgs. Nor GIFs. Nor 99% of all graphics formats. What a load of shit. Most professional websites are built with Macs (as are all of mine) and Windows people view them just fine. As well, I'm perfectly able to view all of Tom's images on the three machines I've got here at home. They work perfectly on my Mac OSX IE 5, Windows 95 IE 4, and Linux NS 4.7. I've looked at them in Photoshop and there's no obvious problem with them. Perhaps it's the capital letters in the extention that are gumping up your browsers. Maybe it's the strange copyright protection Javascript. First Class Citizen Twice Over

I MUST have something wrong with my settings because it shows Bill was at the Ram's Head pub at 6:47 am. I don't think they open that early. I was there for lunch today. Mmmm. Love their hammerhead ale. First Class Citizen Twice Over

With respect for the concern you're showing to your friend, I'm going to rework your posting slightly. I'm not doing this to make you or anyone else mad, but only to illustrate an interesting relationship between your concern and the concern of whuffos. In the end, I both sympathize with your worries and also feel it's intrusive to claim your judgement about risk is better than your friend's. Many skydivers have had the same experience and felt self-righteous about their side of it. Maybe even you have had this experience. And if the only reason you think it's ok to be on the other side is relative risk levels, then there's really no justification for being self-righteous on either side of this argument. I don't suppose anybody will care when I remind them that Photoshop is a product which sells for $600.00 and its publishers have a right to expect people will pay them for its use. First Class Citizen Twice Over
