Isn't that the truth? Man, if I could be Al Pacino when I grow up, I would think life was perfect. Devil's Advocate is proof that even Keano Reeves can't destroy an Al Pacino movie. First Class Citizen Twice Over

  3. I lost a friend of 18 years because of his marrying the wrong person for the wrong reasons at the wrong time. Actually, to be fair, our friendship ended because of the qualities he has that led him to do this, among other thoughtless and destructive things. I have no answer. Just sympathy. 4. Well, got my tickets for Mexico. Next step is to get travel arranged from there to and from the islands I'm visiting. I was thinking I'd skip the whole barracks/mess arrangements and just go find a nice cheap hotel somewhere but my ex-USM boyfriend says I should consider living the experience for a while. Hell, it's vacation, isn't it? I'll give it a try. First Class Citizen Twice Over

    old question

The problem with server side scripting image size reduction is that it's an art, not a script. Even medium quality resizing requires a delicate touch on the cropping, sharpening, and density range. If somebody's 10meg snapshot got algorithmically squished into 75x75, it's going to look like a smudge. On the other hand, some people might be grateful for the smudge. First Class Citizen Twice Over

  8. Religion has the interesting feature of only mattering to people it matters to. You've failed to piss off one homo. Your retelling of Darwin and my reading of Darwin both fail to say anything that bothers me. If the unfit decrease in numbers, and homosexuals are constant in numbers (as argued by cgross), then we can conclude homosexuals are not unfit. Perhaps you're misconstruing Darwin to have been saying, "Any individual that does not breed is unfit." While it certainly is possible to make that argument, I don't believe either you or Darwin have done so. On the other hand, there are fascinating arguments to be made for the unique ways homosexuals contribute to the survival of the species as a whole. Since the value of breeding is the promotion of the survival of the species, if homosexuals provide other valuable contributions, they would deserve an interesting expansion of evolutionary theory. This is probably best saved for another day however First Class Citizen Twice Over

By the way Duece is referring to a comment in another thread where I stated that I have NOT been significantly oppressed. Unlike the poor middle class heterosexual white males around here, this homo has made it through several decades without anything terrible happening through discrimination. I've been mocked and jeered at and even threatened with violence by an occasional drunk and religious zealot over the years. But I don't consider any of that significant. So I guess these guys are right. They DO suffer far more discrimination than we do. Or maybe their standards are just far, far touchier. I know I wouldn't get hot and bothered by an offhand, probably tongue-in-cheek comment like "he's ok for a gay guy". Sometimes I wonder how these people would survive in the real world. (This all reminds me of a time a skydiver offhandedly made a comment in a group, "Don't screw up the jump or people will think you're gay." My boyfriend and I just grinned at each other in private humor and thought nothing more of it. Later we found out the guy got chewed out by the other straight jumpers on our behalf. We thought that was so sweet but seriously overreacting. Oh well, better to overreact in good will than some other things!) First Class Citizen Twice Over
  11. Today's a great day. Today is my 47 month anniversary (4 years next month!) and we're having our DZO and his girlfriend over for dinner. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  12. Well said! And it applies to most of America regardless of sexual orientation too. I've gone 37 years without any significant problems due to discrimination for ANY cause. Notice I said "significant." Yes, I've probably lost out on some good party invitations, and I've been called nasty names, and a couple of times drunks have even gotten in my face and waved their fists around. I consider that all part of being on a planet with other humans. The desire for absolutely pure safety at all costs boggles me. First Class Citizen Twice Over

  16. The silly milk moustache advertising campaign is already hinting at sexual imagery. I don't know what strange goopy hand cream the models wear on their upper lip, but at least one of the billboards had everybody I know convinced the model was wearing a moustache of semen. I'm sorry too. Everyone else seems to be enjoying it in the spirit it was meant. Future notes for recognizing humor markers: Gross exaggeration, table turning, reincorporation, and silly acronyms. I'm sure you'll pick up on it. First Class Citizen Twice Over

Quatorze, I can quote from other threads too! From d-dog: You were not the subject of my initial post, but you jumped in with a highly snotty, backhanded attack about it. But you know what? That's ok. I didn't sniffle and whine about it. I just responded -- WITH HUMOR! Are you so vain you think this thread is about you? It wasn't, but if you want to get defensive about it, you can be part of it. It's sort of a class-action thing. You can tell a lot about a person by what they spontaneously deny. Hmmm. Slang comes and goes quickly and I don't keep up. Breeder is all I can think of right now. Despite some people's belief that everyone is always thinking about them, you heterosexuals just aren't the biggest topic of conversation when gay people get together. On the other hand, "gay" conversation is pretty dull and repetitious and we might have better parties if we talked about you guys more. By the way, I did a quick web search and found this great editorial on the problem of a dearth of derogatory terms for straights. First Class Citizen Twice Over

Thanks for quoting me back to myself. I always get a kick out of being researched. In fact, I did look over my post for spelling errors, and the other tests as well. Anyway, on to the main reason for my post: On behalf of all of us oppressors, I extend my apologies to you quatorze, cgross, and goose491. The minority of middle class white heterosexual males account for only about 20% of the US population, and they've long suffered unbearable persecution. Your victimization by homosexuals is legendary and I personally would like to spearhead corrective action in Congress in your name. Yes, the 2003 Quatorze Uniform Ethical Equalization of Representation for Straights legislation will forevermore correct the horrible inequities you have long endured. Monetary reparations will be included of course, as hetersexuals have long suffered ostracization from the lucrative careers of bed pan nurse, hair stylist, and interior decorator monopolized by the viscious homos. (Edited for spelling errors, on Quatorze's advice.) First Class Citizen Twice Over

You know, I was feeling really bad the other day about how awful I've treated heterosexuals. I think I once ribbed one about being "ok for a straight guy." Now he's unnaturally having sex with other men to get my social approval. By the way, he's white, makes $90,000 at an office job, and has never been beaten up or thrown out of his home and family for his heterosexuality. But I've oppressed him and hereby surrender myself to the international tribunal on human rights. First Class Citizen Twice Over

My boyfriend had it earlier this year. He was 20/300 in both eyes before and 20/15 measured within an hour of the surgery. He did have to deal with blurriness from the goopy eyedrops for a few days, then unpleasant sensations (far from painful) for a couple of weeks. A month later he was skydiving again with a full-face helmet. 6 months later now he's reverted slightly to 20/20 with a teeny astigmatism they're willing to fix without charge. He's perfectly happy to live with it. Cost: $3200 total, including exams, treatment, follow-up care, and a lifetime guarantee. They will retreat him when his eyes change and he needs more correction. There are cheaper places of course, but the extra service and professionalism were worth it to us. First Class Citizen Twice Over
