  1. For the time being I only have the budget for one alti.. I just really like digital, maybe it's cause im young and tech savvy but.. I guess going analog has its cons. Say if i went with the Viso, has that on my wrist. Is it bad to rely on just that? I mean, for any of us if an alti failed we'd still be able to pull at a similiar-to-wanted altitude so it's not the end of the world..
  2. I need some help/advice on acquiring the right altimeter. I would really like to go digital; Although all I'm worried about right now is altitude readout, I'm positive that in the near future I'll like all the other data too. I've been looking at a few, some incredibly popular some not. If you guys could give me some feedback on a wise decision, I'd appreciate it. One question I have, as I have not seen all of these in person. They do all show a LARGE alti readout while in freefall, right? Viso Pro Dytter http://www.baddogservices.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=82_290&products_id=352 Neptune 2 http://www.baddogservices.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=82_449&sort=products_sort_order&page=1 Neptune wave http://www.baddogservices.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=79_282&sort=products_sort_order&page=1 You guys probably don't need links but I have them up anyway. What is the main difference between the Neptune 2 and wave? If you have any other suggestions feel free. One could always play it safe with a galaxy..
  3. Why do all of you think I'm only trying to look cool? I don't like the cheap flexi's for a reason. Yes, some of them have a more rounded comfortable edge but the ones that don't are incredibly uncomfortable. I'm not looking for style, just functionality..
  4. It means that the pouch the pilot chute goes into has a cutaway system on the left side (the side opposite your pilot chute handle) to allow a reserve side AFF instructor to deploy the student's main canopy. Ah gotcha, never heard of that. These RTS's don't have those..
  5. Yeah, alotttt of staff and and whohaveyou wear gatorz, but I'm not willing to drop that much money yet. I suppose I could always get a pair of the curv's, being like $25 bucks, and also some flexi's that I can always count on.. I really do like the boogie goggles over the flexi's though just because that unprotected or cushioned edge is a little uncomfortable.. Indyz, or anyone for that matter with glasses, did/do you have to wear croakies with your glasses? Online I can't find the best pair of croakies, the ones you can tighten in the back and they'll stay nice and snug..
  6. Thanks for the replies. A quick bit about me.. I'm 5' 11'' and I'm a beanpole at only 135. Yep, I started on a navigator 200, then moved to a sabre 2 190, now I'm on a sabre 2 170. Within the next few weeks I might be on the next lower, not knowing my canopies is this a 150? They aren't beat up, the DZ takes real good care of them, and like some of you had mentioned I don't believe canopy size will be a problem as they have a 170, 150, etc.. not all 200's. Also, I haven't learned much about ZP fabric or whatnot but sabre 2's are ZP aren't they? The DZ also buys new student equipment every 1-3 years. So nothing is that old. What exactly is a 'cutaway PC pouch'? Is that worded wrong or?
  7. Obviously for my first pair I'm not gonna go buy gatorz, but I also don't wanna buy the $7 flex goggles that suck. So I was looking at a few things and would like you guys to throw any suggestions you have at me about these two. Sorz - I've seen people wearing them and no complaints.. and Curv Z, the ones with the foam.. There are quite a few different aspects you guys might critique on, functionality, look, durability, etc.. but just combine them all and explain which you would choose! Thanks, blues
  8. Is buying a used Mirage RTS that was previously used for AFF students a decent idea? Pros cons?
  9. Haha, I figured it was along those lines, just wanted to make sure. Thanks for correction!
  10. I'm 99% sure that's what I use during AFF. I mean, it's not super comfortable. If it was my choice I wouldn't wear it and I haven't tried on anything else but I'm SURE there are helmets out there that are plenty comfy. I can assume that by their price tag!
  11. Am I missing something? I always thought SL was essentially like you see in the army. You jump out, your canopy is yanked out. If there are other ways, correct me please. But with this way, there is no freefall!? It's like a hop and pop, you shouldn't be able to get your license doing hop n pops. In my opinion, that minute of freefall and ALL of the variables that you must control are the most important. Anyone can steer a canopy down (for the most part.) But it's the stability and freefall skills such as turning etc. that are the most important
  12. I'm going through AFF at CSC currently, and I definitely recommend it.. It's just an all around awesome DZ; the staff, people, facilities, aircraft, etc.. I also recommend buying the AFF in packages, if not the full 25 jumps, atleast the 7 jump package. You'll save alot of money
  13. Sure, you might be scared; but it's one of those things that you just have to go '3...2...1...FUCK IT!' in your head and just jump. After a second out the door you'll realize how incredible it is
  14. I throw up once in a while from drinking, do I stop drinking? Nope
  15. Did you just recently watch the movie smoke jumper? Haha, me and my gf picked it up the other night cause there was nothing better at the Redbox. Didn't really care for it, a little too corny.. Oh, and I'm fine with landing in a cornfield, but not a raging fire..
  16. I would hope that EVERYONE could say their home DZ has the best aircraft! Obviously (or hopefully?) most DZ's care about their maintenance more than most things. I wouldn't want to be jumping out of a 30 year old cessna with rust holes eh?
  17. I get to jump out of a new plane Although I like the otter better..
  18. BOTH. I have no extra money but somehow I am making a payment on a brand new bike I just bought, in addition to putting some money from each check aside to go towards diving.. Anything is possible! Who cares if you're eating chicken ramen for the rest of your life..
  19. Skydive Iowa or Paradise Skydives? I'm looking distance from Iowa City and those two are closest at about 46 miles each. The next two closest are Quad City Skydiving Center at 75 miles and then Rock River Valley Skydivers at 96, no thanks! So, any I'm missing, suggestions? Thanks
  20. What exactly is safety day? I did my AFF 1 jump before winter came, and now I know that I need to take the refresher course and an additional skydive. My dz is going to have a free refresher course in may, which I might pay to do it in april if weather permits? I don't want to wait that long! Wow, that was so pointless, anyway.. what exactly is safety day?
  21. I landed in a corn field The winds picked up to the point where, if I wasn't in the air yet, I wouldn't have been able to do my level 1. Plus, I had a canopy that was a little larger that what I could have used so I was left floating along for what seemed like an eternity!
  22. Definitely would Dave, it would just be wayyy better to get into a club that is already well established, ya know? Florida Institute of Technology? I was accepted there, but have lost interest after realizing the size of the school and how new it is. Can you give me any information on it that would change my decision? And I'm up in Northern Illinois, I'd only be near GT if I infact went there ha
  23. Well, I'm kinda bummed. Aside from GT being a nice school, I was really looking forward to the skydiving club!
