I think part of it is lazy packing (not fully pulling the kill line back into the slider, leaving an inch or two exposed) and part gear (think of the tabs that PD used to use vs the straight line that they use now). I actually just pointed out this possibility to a jumper at my dz as she was packing, she's got a D and TI rating, but had never thought of it and never bothered pulling the kill line all the way back into the channel to hide the tabs. Fuckin-a this instrument stuff is difficult. Where's that dunce cap at these days? Once you've embraced IFR flying VFR will seem difficult and foolish. It's a lot easier than it's made out to be during training, just think of everything as a simple to do list. One of my buddies (an Air Force pilot) said he would probably feel really nervous on a VFR flight with no flight plan. Guess it goes both ways! Highly doubtful that you can just splice a longer leg strap on by cutting off the short one and sewing the longer one on. There's a failure point you're introducing that hasn't been tested. If the harness has hip rings, you can build new leg straps pretty easily, if it's a conventional harness, not so much. TPA approach usually just tells our pilot to ident, maintain VFR and will give us a traffic alert if needed. 2 minute call gets announced and then in the descent, they will keep quiet unless there's an airplane in the area of our descent. Depending on their workload, they might drop us right after the jumpers away call, or they might hang on till the plane is descending thru 5k-ish. I actually think it's more work managing a plane shooting an ILS at one of the airports in the area than it is for a jump plane. At the very minimum, it should have the rig's pack data card. Nothing else should be expected unless you've been told to expect it. Trial and error. You can have a friend spot the camera and tell you exactly where it's pointed (I like to zoom the camera all the way in to identify the center). Put the helmet on, tighten it to normal. have a friend point the camera to a prominent object that's the approximate distance as the objects you want to film, take note of that location and start taping on the helmet. Usually you see the paper asshole though. they're a dime for a million and easily adjustable. Problem solved. He all but apologized for trying to hang me out to dry. He was shocked at the level and detail of logs that I pulled proving it wasn't my doing. Well, my problem is that he's lying to MY management about things that make it look like I either don't know what I'm doing or I have no integrity. It's a VERY big deal at the moment and I don't feel like being hung out to dry, so I've presented logs that make it pretty clear that he's lying to my boss. We will see how it goes tomorrow I guess. How do you deal with people trying to play their fuck-fuck games with you? I'm a new guy, 2 months left on my probation (and all but officially done with it) and cleaning up the HUGE mess some other guy made. Well, he's trying to throw me under the bus on something, something that I've got log files proving he is lying about. I got quite used to fuck-fuck games in the Army...
