A course I went to actually had a module on how to *ahem* commandeer *ahem* a vehicle. Pretty funny to see the guys get in the car, hear them grind the crap out of it, stall it and have to spend a little longer getting out of the 'box'. I learned to drive standards because my first car was a '74 Nova with a 3 speed. By the time I had it running, I was scared to drive it. I learned. I also learned how to replace U-joints, clutches and transmissions on the side of the road, as well as getting the lifetime warranty of clutches from Autozone was a good idea. Bring back a box of dust and get a new clutch. I don't know, I generally spend most of my day sitting on my ass, or bullshitting with other people... Taking a "hour" long lunch and coming back to an empty queue of tickets. Guess it pays to not be the low man in IT. Our level 1's are busy as hell. But, I have bigger things on my plate, like figuring out how to un-fuck some pretty interesting looking networks and get them in line with sanity and best practices... with little to no downtime. I'd say roughly 90-95% of my work is planning, 5-10% doing. It's a BlackBerry (on Verizon) and I'm just using the standard operating system and browser that comes with the BlackBerry. The problem appears just by accessing www.dropzone.com. Usually the home page starts to come up and then it quits and the error message appears. The problem appears both when using WiFi or cellular--I just tried both. This is in the Seattle, WA area. Interesting. Could you go direct to the forum page? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi Might be worth going online to www.whatismyip.com on both your WiFi and cell network connections, getting both of the IP's and sending them in a PM to Meso/Sangrio. There could be a number of things up to and including the provider ISP blocking the connection, but that's between D4R and their provider. Could be an ad that gets blocked by Verizon, but it's doubtful if you get the same result on WiFi and cell (unless the WiFi is connected to Verizon as their ISP) I don't know nuffin! I've only got a few hundred camera jumps, but I'll give it a shot, I'm sure that the more experienced people will chime in where I'm wrong. I honestly haven't got the slightest clue how I sideslide in a camera jacket. I think that I do it about the same way as in RW, but with much more power from the wings, you have to be careful. It depends a lot on how the instructor is exiting. I try to talk to instructors that I haven't jumped with before to see how they're going to do it, so I can figure the best shot out. Sometimes its below, sometimes it's right in their face. For side door: I generally stay right on their ass for the exit, sometimes to the point that I'm in their burble for just a second. Keep the wings small and get a touch below them for the drogue toss. Those things tend to hurt and/or really take up the entire frame. [inline IMG_4272-2.JPG] [inline IMG_4916-2.JPG] [inline IMG_9985-2.JPG] For 182's, it's a timing art, keep your wings closed and track up to the tandem pair. [inline IMG_7673-2.JPG] Once they toss the drogue, be ready to get slow. I've seen far too many people blow right past the tandem pair because they weren't on the ball with being ahead of the skydive. The TI is much more likely than not to throw the drogue, so be ready for it. I worked in the tunnel on the very fast stop and go's for forward movement. It works the same on a camera jump, but you have to be QUICK! When you're approaching with a bunch of speed, you need to reverse (think a big backslide) for just a second, then back to a normal freefall position. The only times I had issues with this were when the tandem pair was screaming and I had to keep the wings basically closed. For those, I generally would bring my knees together at about the same time I brought my arms forward so that my fall rate didn't get effected much. Like earlier, gotta be quick about it though. When it's done right, it looks pretty awesome and doesn't present much danger to any of the group... but do not EVER get directly below a tandem. You never know when one of the parachutes could come out or drogue gets released and ruins everyones day. That being said, I found it a tad easier to sit fly in the camera jacket, but I also suck at freeflying. From my observation: all wide chest straps (from all manufacturers) have a fold-back, most narrow chest straps have no fold-back. I should've clarified that earlier, but yes, this is what I meant. It looks like he was jumping a harness with a TY-8 chest strap, which has the fold over.
