  1. IMHO wingloading is the amount of load that is placed on the wing. This does not include the actual weight of the wing, but does include everything suspended from the wing. We count the weight of the entire main assembly for two reasons 1) Makes calculations easier. 2) lines, risers, toggles, etc. must be accounted for as they are suspended wgt. So what exactly does the canopy weigh without everything attached to it? Who knows. I would think that it is maybie half the weight in this case 3.5 lbs. so that really wouldn't make any real differance to the average size jumper. Then again I could be wrong ATTACK LIFE ! 2. Fanfriggintastic!!! See hard work pays off. Now pack alot and lets get that A license great job!!! I know you've made your papa proud ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  3. Go with the one that you plan on making your home dz. The training will be fine at either but if you go to the one you'll most likely be jumping at poeple will get to know you and help as you progress. This is assuming that you make smart decisions and don't make a newbie ass out of yourself. good luck BSBD ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  4. That's what i was saying sitting in the plane will allow your leg straps to move down your legs. Dont retighten them but in the case of a non-benched plane(182, 206) just get on your knees real quick straighten up into as vertical a position as poss. and get them straps up!!! If you leave them down just alittle bit there is a good chance that at opening shock you will be in pain. The g forces will send your body into the legstraps at what 3 g's if they are now sliding up your inner thighs even only two inches that will really ruin your day.I'm 6'3" and I use this on the knees trick on every jump that I'm sitting on the floor and have a chance of my straps not being correctly positioned. For me this is the solution to painful openings and canopy rides. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  5. Yes it's good to have a few downwinders but they shouldn't be forced on us. We all need to be prepared to handle an unusual situation, but that takes careful practice. Not everyone will be prepared to make that perfect landing downwind just for laughs. I would hate to think of the medical bills for that broken leg or worse inflicted on someone because of things like this. Yes I'll take any landing direction and try to muster all my skills to survive it when that's my last choice, but given the choice lets try to insure the overall safety of everybody so we can keep jumping. (A helicopter ambulance shuts the DZ down to long, I wanna jump again) ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  6. I agree that both systems can work, but we are all in this together. If someone wants to land downwind or crosswind more power too them. They should then let the load know what they are doing and then THEY should land out. We all know that the safest way to land is into the wind. Into the wind should always be the prefered landing pattern. We don't have to chase the sock every 5 degrees but predominently into the wind. We all need to be able to change our pattern at the last minute, land cross and downwind but why should we increase our risk for someone wanting alittle more thrill? I like thrill to but on my terms not because I'm forced to for no other reason than Johnny big balls needs to get off. I will do what I need to do to ensure my safety as well as the others around me, period. Look Out HERE'S JOHNNY!!!!! ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  7. If your throwing that hard you are probebly in a bad body position leading to the bad openings. Throwing really soft could be putting the pc in your burble for a second slowing the opening down.Just throw it out in a normal move Goldilocks. Not too hard and not too soft but just right. 8. If you keep working hard and proving yourself he will let you jump. We are not all 4.0 students I left H.S. with a 2.1 gpa then after working a few years went to collage and held a 3.8. Keep working and you'll have your day trust me. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  9. Actually I was wrong according to USPA it's 16 with a notorized waiver of parent permission. I wasn't aware of any state laws that would prevent this. Wish I had my copy of the FAR's handy. Anyway she'll get there sounds like she's a good kid and dad wants the best for her. wish I would have had that much. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  10. Just replied in your other post but you can jump at 17 with a parents permission. Good luck ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  11. just bring home some loser dad will hate. Then you can promise to dump him after your first skydive.:) No really keep up the hard work it will pay off in more ways than your FJC of course I can't think of a better start!!! Good luck post your first jump video we're all pulling for you. No offense mean old dad!!! ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  12. I have only been to 5 Dzs but 3 of them were not very pleasent. If we want people to stay in the sport we really need to make everyone welcome!!! Even on this site! We should never trash newbies no matter how good we think we are or how dumb we think they are. We were all ignorant to this sport at one time and new, nervous, scared to death, whatever fits you best. Part of skydiving is the feeling of belonging to a group of people that do this thing thats out of the "norm" lets all not forget that. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  13. But that is with Ripcord mains. On the reserve in most instances the main is already gone, or at least not going to open. (baglock, pc in tow) In the event of a cypres fire the ripcord and pin stay where they're at. (basically, lets not get into a pissing match of course it moves.) As far as I know there has been no situation in which the ripcord prevented the reserve opening after a cypres fire so if it doesn't clear the rig after pulling the pin all should be good. Maybie I'm wrong but I don't see the problem. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  14. I thought the same thing was going to happen to me. I had a shoulder dislocation during a RW jump. Fortunately I was able to "pop" it back in before decision height, but i did have two other jumpers chasing me.( Thanks Guys) Anyway, The reserve ripcord should pull free, but if it pulls the pin and lets the canopy clear the container that's all we really need right? At least you had no chance of losing your handle. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  15. It would be ok but just remember that as you downsize the container size has to change. Still think go used for a year, demo everything you can get your hands on, then re-evaluate your needs. JMHO IF you do decide to go new PM me next year I'll probebly want your canopy. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  16. I agree. I have always had the large rings and don't have any problem with them. I still think I've read somewhere that you can't get Louie Loops on type 8 risers but I'm not sure. If not I'll have something made. I had "Super Swoop Loops" made by my rigger on my other rig so no biggie. S.S. Loops attach at the bottom of the front riser and run up through a ring at the top of the riser then to a hand loop. When you pull the loop the ring acts like a pulley and the riser collapses giving you a mehanical advantage when doing front risers. Greatly decreases riser pressure. ATTACK LIFE ! 17. It would be nice to see what the patterns look like on actual materiel in various colors. I wish U.P.T. would put this in there coloring program like some of the other companies do. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  18. Personally I think you should buy used. I bought my first rig which was a big downsize from student gear, jumped it for one season. Then bought my second rig brand new. Downsized again on this one, which was a tight fit in container. I could go down once maybie twice more depending on pack volume if i had wanted too. It worked out great in the long run I sold the first used rig for the same price I paid for it. I think that if you have money to burn then fine buy new, but just remember things change very quickly in your first couple of years. At your weight you'll probebly want to downsize 3-4 times in your first 300 jumps are so.Do what you want and what makes you happy just make an informed decision. Good Luck BSBD ATTACK LIFE ! 19. Don't really know. I really think that if properly maintained and not nicked in any way that the yellow cord would ever break from compressive forces. I could see it possibly flattening out at the closing loop location. I really can't see it breaking though. The red cable as I hear it is inharently weaker but still couldn't see breakage as long as it wasn't previously damaged. JMO as I'm not a rigger or engineer. ATTACK LIFE ! 20. The neater it is the More it wants to stay in the bag!!!!! Keep the lines in order and it'll open. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  21. where were you 15 years ago when I needed them? ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  22. Damn!!! Glad your not shorter now. I guess I'm safe with the minis, cool. Thanks to you all. I keep my gear checked religiously, until I grow wings that's all I've got. Blue Skies ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  23. I had the same problem It caused me to almost quit before I got really started. My solution was two fold 1. the last thing I did in the plane was pull the straps up in the "groove" between inner thigh and the "twins". prevents them from slidding up thigh at opening shock. they tend to move down in the plane and the sliding action was 90% of the pain. Then after throwing P.C. i would kind of sit up alittle and look up towards sky and watch my canopy open these two thing made it no problem. When you buy your gear get padded legstraps also. Hope this helps!! ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
  24. I don't think that the drag of a mini riser is enough to make a diff. in swoop length and as said before Any rigger can sew yours shut. I do like the always open swoop loops, COOL. ? is how do they pack? Seems like they would take alot of room and possibly create a wear spot on the container. The leg pad covers are brilliant! slide it in all day and throw them in the wash at night, saving wear on the rig. I don't use a mirage but I will be getting the leg pad covers. Are at least having some made. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
