dislocated shoulder while in freefall
BUBLHED replied to oldschoolkyle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was 500' from silver when I got squared away. It was all I could do to reach my pilotchute but I was above my hard deck so I gave it all I had. When it happened I was flying into a formation, got big to slow down and BAM right shoulder just popped out. Scares the shit out of you. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!! -
dislocated shoulder while in freefall
BUBLHED replied to oldschoolkyle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had it happen if freefall once. Two other jumpers were chasing me as I flopped around trying to get it back in. Lets just say that'll get your heart rate up!! I was able to get it in and pull without incident. You should do a google search for rotator cuff exercises. These are special moves that most people don't know that will strengthen the shoulder and increase stability. Any good fitness trainer will know these and be able to teach you. Also not all physical therepists know these exercises. I work in medicine and trust me do these exercises they will make a tremendous differance, in a fairly short amount of time. BSBD ATTACK LIFE ! Sorry to hear that dude hope you recover quickly. I see patients everyday that screw up there surgeons work. At least 3 months off and I would think twice about wearing a camara for 6 months to a year. If you don't let this fully heal and be extra careful with it you could end up with chronic neck pain. I see this all the time and it's usually avoidable. Don't mean to preach just want you to have a good result from all this. BSBD ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

True. Lets gust say that if it was me and I was selling it I would expect to get about 1/3rd less than I could get a new one for. But that's just me. The op asked a question that there is no right answer too, just opinions and that is mine, yours may differ. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

[quote dear Bublehed, can you please give your reasons why ? Because it has 300 jiumps on it. It is most likely more than halfway through the life of the first set of lines. Plus I think with the way our economy is today he would have more luck selling it at $1300. It is probebly worth more than that, but a faster sale is something to consider. ATTACK LIFE ! *** Exactly and yes it does loose more altitude in a 180 degree turn. If the turn is done in the same manner. If the 190 is accelerating to 50 mph during a 7 second diving 180 and the 135 is doing 60 mph during the same 7 second dive the 135 will be loosing more altitude. The differance is that going faster and being more responsive the 135 will only need a 5 second diving 180 to reach the level-off but you'll still be going faster with less time to react. At least that's how it plays out in my mind. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!! -
[IMO, beginning jumpers buying brand new gear aren't thinking very clearly anyway. ] Agreed [Your feet, helmet, fingers are entangled in your main lines. You cut away...what happens next if you have a MARD? ] You try to clear the entanglement as usual, the MARD wont do anything until the main leaves at least the distance of the attachment to the reserve bridle. If you cannot clear at your hard deck pull silver you'll get what you get with or without a MARD Lets hope none of us need it but there are certain times that without these systems we will die. Yes they may cause complications in a given situation but They will assist more often than not. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

There are many skydivers that don't want to use aad's either. This is someone just starting and AAD's and Skyhook save lives there is no way to argue that. Can't say anything bad about the Voodoo looks like a nice rig but I am a big fan of proven safety devices! Especially for beginning jumpers. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Vector with the magnetic riser covers and spacer foam. Why not just go with the best from the beginning? Don't forget the Skyhook your life may depend on it!! ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

I your D-bad closed all the way? What I mean does the material meet or are the rubber bands strecthed out between the gaps? If the bag is not closed fully then the canopy needs to be stuffed in there more effectively to help alleviate the bulging. I had to beat the hell out of my last one to get it "square" then center it in the container and see if this helps. Also try not to tip it into the container put it on top of the compartment square and pull the container up an around the bag. I believe this is demonstrated on the PD packing video. Do a search here to find. The idea is to not shove the bag into the bottom of the container deforming the bottom. I believe I'd also play with the PC. Maybie use Brians PC packing method but put the folded bridle beside the PC not folded in it, so it is not as thick. Basically fold the bridle on the outside of the PC then put it in the pouch sideways so the you end up with the PC and bridle side by side when looking from the bottom of the container. ATTACK LIFE ! Only your instructors know you and your abilities. Generally you'll want to be at a wingloading of 1.0 to 1 or larger for your first couple hundred jumps. This equals a 210 sq ft or bigger canopy. Don't be in too big of a hurry to go smaller, when you can get everything out of what you've got and fly the hell out of it consistently then (and only then) you can think about going smaller. Remember that if your not able to get 100% out of your 210 then how would you expect to get anything out of something smaller? BSBD ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Order Brian Germains' book The parachute and its pilot you will learn alot about canopy flight including techniques for the flare. Dont know how to do the clicky thing but look in gear under main and reserve parachutes "big air sportz" you can link to his website. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Darwinian candidate AKA who the hell taght this guy ?

I think your probebly right. I have read that below a certain size that the problems compound greater than just the WL. I can't remember what that size was however. Seems like the higher the WL and the smaller the size go together into creating hazardous situations. ie: a 190 at 1.3 versus a 120 at 1.3 might be a significant differance? I weigh 245 out the door so I don't see myself trying a 120 but I may try a 190 one of these days. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!! -

True. didn't think of that, I guess that i tend to give too much credit that people in general practice (carving, high aoa turns etc.) and explore what they can and can't do under canopy. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!! -

I didn't think there would be a huge differance. Makes me wonder if a person of reasonable intelligence, self control and a strong sense of self preservation couldn't handle a canopy slightly smaller, especially if they are the type to do straight in landings. I know there is more to it, but if the canopy isn't accelerated past full glide speed on the approach seems reasonably safe to me. Am I wrong? Under the conditions above of course. ATTACK LIFE ! [you have been in the sport for 21 years, surely you can tell us.] Actually 22 years, my first canopy was a modified Unit 3 in a Wonderhog with the round reserve off course, Square reserves we still kinda scary and not recommended for young jumpers at my Dz . And as I've said I haven't gone smaller than 1.17 never felt the need. Just curious as to how much differance .2 WL really makes especially so small 1.1 vs 1.3? [PS Canopy shrunk ? How ? Why do you think it's a possibility, and what do you think could have caused that ?] Well It couldn't have been me getting fatter the damn thing must have shrunk!!!!! ATTACK LIFE ! I haven't yet jumped anything more that a 1.17 WL,but how much differance is there really between 1.1 and 1.3 as far as speed and responsiveness? This same canopy when I bought it I was at a 1.05 WL then either I got fatter or MAYBIE IT SHRUNK but I never really noticed a differance, even when I had taken a few years off. I think Brians chart is alittle to conservitive but don't think anyone should get to small to fast. Just curious as to what the effects of 2 tenths WL really are? ATTACK LIFE ! Take a tip from pilots, Use a red lensed flashlight, and remember that on landing at night things seem to be lower than they actually are the first couple of times. I almost killed myself on my first night landing in a plane because of the visual perception differance. Just be sure to get visual cues from all around not just from the ground in front of you. [The wing loading is the number of pounds of lift every square foot of the wing has to generate in order to sustain flight. The wing has to generate enough lift to support itself and the structure] Now that makes sense to my tiny little suspicious mind. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Problem being I am sceptical of everything i read on this site and this sport for that matter. You never really know who is qualified to answer. I have alot of respect for the people on here just I like to absorb what i read possibly try it( not in this case) and then see what I can learn from it. My knowledge is the only thing that keeps me alive so I try to look at both sides even if I don't necessarily agree. BSBD ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Didn't pretend to be correct just presented a theory. I stand corrected. That's why we discuss these things so we can all learn something. Right? ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

As i said i could be totally wrong. I'm 250 lbs geared up so 7 lbs is last nights dinner. To me by definition wingloading is the amout of load placed on the wing in addition to the wing itself. Maybie on of the oem's will post an understandable answer for all of us. It doesn't really matter for me but I am curious. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Your confusing max gross weight with wing loading. Wing loading is the "load" that is placed on the wing. If you have a bare canopy ( no lines or anything) what is its wingloading? Wingloading is the weight that is suspended by the canopy not the canopy itself. The canopy is creating lift therby supporting its own weight and the load or what is suspended from it that creates a load on the wing. If you pull zero g's the wingloading goes to zero not to the weight of the canopy. At least it sounds good to me. But does it really matter a such a fractional differance? You could take your shoes off and make about the same differance; at least I can with size 13 shoes. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
