Jump the hell out of it. Racers, wings, vectors, voodoo, whatever there all good rigs. If anyone that doesn't like racers and has a good used one for the cheap (big boy 230 main size) let me know I'll jump the sheet out of it. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

I call it the "superman" and here's how it works: -Arms straight out in front of you like Superman. -Legs straight out all the way (key point) -Toes turned out with heels together. -De-arch (like helping the proctologist as mentioned above) Arms out - counteracts the legs to help prevent the forward movement. Head down between your arms - adds that much more surface area and helps "cup" the air and helps with the de-arch. Legs all the way out - gets your lower legs working for you. Toes out - puts those booties to work for you by putting that much more fabric into the air. De-arch - is self-explanatory. This is what I learned in the orlando tunnel with Mike. Even without booties it works wonders! I was able to go up at ease. The biggest thing to me seemed like the better angle part (kinda like the upstroke if you know what I mean) Good Luck This has always been the hardest part for me, try the Superman I'd bet you'll have some success. I think that the Bowling speech should be given in only the worst cases. You most likely would have given it to me. At somewhere in the 12 to 17 jump numbers my pattern went alittle too far downwind for the conditions and found myself backing up on final. I really had no idea of what I should do so I just watched myself back up over the fence to a flare and PLF in a cow pasture. I walk back (rig covered in cow shit) feeling horrible about my lack of skill. Three things happened later, 1 my instructor explained how to fly my pattern based on wind conditions again, with me now able to SEE the effects better. 2 The DZO said hey you got my rig covered in cow shit!!(laughing) good job saving yourself. I later found out that I did the safest thing for my situation. 3 Students were no longer allowed to jump in winds that high. My point is that if this wasn't treated as a learning experience by my instructor and the DZO I might have quit. I had TEACHERS, and because of that during 4-way scrambles with about 60 jumps I bested my team on canopy accuracy. (Teams equaled, 2 highly exp. 1 mid level 1 newbie) Thank you Tom and Bill for being TEACHERS and not being self rightous skygods. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

that's why I said in its most basic sense. As in, in its most basic sense a taures and a corolla are both cars that get you from point a to point b. As I understand UPT can't liscense the Collins lanyard as it is not there's to liscense. They are recieving liscense to incorperate it into there MARD system. I do think that these systems are worth the investment. Yes anything can happen and anything can and will malfunction, but overall I feel that the benefits of a RSL especially a MARD system are far greater than the risks. ( unless doing Crew or Camera) ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Jerry isn't the Mirage Drx system in its most basic sense a skyhook minus the Collins lanyard? Drx = RSL with bridle attachment to use the main as pilotchute. Skyhook= RSL + Collins lanyard with a bridle attachment to use main as a pilotchute. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

That's good too see in the attachment. I want to use slinks but when researching for my new gear read the sm-1 (standard) weren't recommended. I will be using type 8 risers with large rings due to my size so I'll be ordering the tandem/reserve slinks for my main and reserve. Thanks Sparky. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Can't remember but the jist was that they weren't designed to properly seat in the type 8 risers. I do remember that according to the article that they were for mini risers only. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

I've read that PD's slinks are not recommended for type 8 risers. Are there reserve slinks longer also? If a person has type 8 risers and wants soft links of some type, would it be ok to use reserve soft links on the main type 8 risers? Seems like it would be to me but I've always had metal links. The person should have asked or told you about your handle. But seriously why would he make up a percieved problem? He may have saved your life. We'll never know but I personally want people looking me over as I will look them over. ( I wouldn't touch anyones gear w/o permission though, unless it is an imminent threat) I think he did the right thing but in the wrong way. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Don't stop at emt although it's a great job for alot of people. i would suggest fireman/paramedic you will make more money, have more of a chance for advancement, and still be involved in the more fun and exciting part of the field. One of my best friends was a F/P for years until a medical retirement and it's killing him to work a "regular" job now. He says he is soooo bored now. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

It's most likely a weak battery as mentioned above. spend alittle more money an a "optima" battery as they are gel cell and will recharge for a much longer time. There is always the old put a drop light under the hood at night next to the battery to keep it warmer trick. Drop light from sears not much money. If you need a new battery be sure you are getting one with sufficent cold cranking amps. I always get the most cca that I can for all my cars. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

UPT Highly Recommends Retrofit (updated 01/15/09) United Parachute Technologies has released a Product Improvement Announcement aimed at all owners of the company’s Vector and Sigma harness and container systems that are equipped with a Collins lanyard and Skyhook reserve deployment device and an automatic activation device. The announcement states that UPT highly recommends that the two modifications be installed on all of their "Sigma Tandem and student systems by the next reserve pack job." I think it does include all per the first half of the paragraph. I imagine that this is in response to the tandem incident and they just improperly worded the last sentence, above. I am curious to hear more from UPT and I also am dissapointed that we haven't already. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

You have got to be kidding. You actually have to put that thing back together. OMG! That's at least 2-3 minutes, so what if There's no need for extra keepers or pulling the slider down behind your head. We're talking 2-3 minutes here are you crazy?

I do it in no specific order. I have walked around with no legstraps, rig hanging on one shoulder whatever. However: when I mentally say I'm ready. I Always go through a complete "checklist" for my gear. I check altimiter, helmet goggles chest strap legstraps, handles, pilot chute in position and reachable, and finally "balls free check". I repeat this 2-3 times before leaving the aircraft and do the first full check before boarding. Even if I am in a hurry I can do these things while walking to the plane. I am one of those OCD types I even do this before going to work. Walet,keys,phone,whatever. I have to go so far as to actually touch each item and not just trust my memory. This works for me because straps first, middle, last, doesn't matter everything will be checked and rechecked multiple times before boarding and on the way to altitiude oh and once more right before jumprun. OCD can sometimes be a blessing. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

True they will erase digital memory and if the field strengh of the magnet is high enough it can also affect battery life. But in this instance the battery and the memory are further away from a magnetic keeper or mag riser covers than the switch with a digital display. I haven't ever played with these type of slider keepers but I would imagine that the magnetic field extends 1 to 3" at max. I would presume that the cypress memory and battery would be safe unless possibly directly on the magnets, which wouldn't be the case. Even if it was directly on the magnets I stilll don't think that the field would be strong enough to cause any ill affect with a cypress. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

With the cypres being digital I would doubt that it would be affected. I work around high magnetic fields and for example a digital watch is unaffected but a analog watch will stop during the time it is exposed to the field. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!

Been offered a Vector 2 container for a spare - thoughts please?!

Not a rigger but I loved my vector II. Not really a freefly rig but for a belly rig or crw it would be great. If it is a ROL setup modifying it to a BOC would be no problem for a rigger and just as good as factory. I'd jump a vector II anyday. Check the velcro riser covers if worn just have it replaced and jump the hell out of it. ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!! -
(Booties are what you pull over your toes, right?) Yes. Just remember anything that creates additional wind resistance can either help slow you down (wings. swoop cords,grippers Inside and out.) booties are more for increasing the power of your lower legs.(flying into formation, rw work) As with anything else everything has a price, wings are harder to fly, add swoop cords even harder. I think someone starting out should keep it basic with a good basic suit built for your fallrate requirements. After you learn to fly your body then start adding things as you need them. I Started with HUGE wings and swoop cords but as I progressed the cords got trashed and then I had the suit altered to remove about half of the wing size. and as I said earlier now I can flatten my body and fly with most average people without all the extras. I believe I would have progressed much faster without having the wings and cords in the first place. Other people may disagree but that's how I feel. it was very frustrating for me learning to control my fallrate (slowing down that is, faster NO PROBLEM) just my 2 cents and in todays market it's only worth 1 cent. That's one I hadn't heard of. The sellers I have had problems with have always been able to provide there side of the story and any supporting documentation. Not doubting your friend just hadn't heard of that happening. As a seller I have never had any problems but I didn't do a private pick up. He's most likely cash challenged and needs to use his credit card I would get him to sign a biil of sale with you for your protection. Paypal is there to protect both of you.
