  1. Since when do i post US bashing posts?! I'm married to an American, i love you guys (literally in the case of my wife). I just can't stand the fact you are all getting so uptight about a few pence rise in a GALLON of gas when we pay so much more for it here and don't go crying into our milk whenever we get price rises. Get over it people, you HAVE IT DAMN GOOD! I do care about the environment, which is why it concerns me that the pollution produced by your guys driving for a couple of hours in a normal day out there equates to more than the entire pollution produced by all skydiving planes over here for a year, but all i hear is "oh GAWD look at the price of gas, it's now at $3.30 a gallon, it might even go to $4!). I tell you what, call me when it get's to closer to $8 - then we can talk. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  2. Actually you are right, i often get all sorts of wonderful help from the myriad of US servicemen and women stationed here . If they pulled out all of the troops tomorrow, i guarantee you would not see most Brits blink twice. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  3. Then, instead of everyone getting their knickers in a twist over a 40 or 50 cent rise overnight, by doubling them you would be somewhat close to what we are paying here. It would also destroy less of the environment which we ALL rely on to sustain life, not place so much reliance on the role and power that major oil producing countries have in our lives, and benefit the general health of the populace by forcing them to walk or take some other mode of transportation. Anyone not living in the US know what i mean? You guys have had it too good for too long. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  4. Ok thanks for rubbing it in all of our faces Got any pics/video you can post? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  5. I think the question you should be asking is, "what effect has the war in Iraq had on Katrina?". Why city's defences were down - cuts in spending to raise levees blamed on war in Iraq "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  6. Just wondering, i only have one. Thinking about getting the Optima and LED accessory when it's available. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  7. Bill where did those captions come from? I looked on CNN images and found only this caption for pic 1 "A young man drags groceries through chest-deep water in New Orleans on Tuesday. " "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  8. Hi, i think this might be a compression issue, but not 100% - any advice appreciated. Finished a non skydiving video project in FCP 3.0.2 (yes i'm behind the times). When exporting it as a quicktime mov, i choose to use DV PAL Superwhite (i'm working with PAL footage) but when i import it into iDVD and burn off a DVD i'm getting quite a bit of artifacting. I'm not exorting as a self contained movie which i have been advised shouldn't matter by people in the editing biz. A mate has suggested this could be down to compression, but is there any way i can experiment to test this? If i export as a Quicktime movie, rather than a Final Cut Pro movie, i can play withthe compression settings, but am not sure if this is something i really need to do... Thanks to anyone if they can give any advice, this project is ready to ship, i just have to burn it to look decent (at least as good as the DV it was captured from would be perfect). Battlefield 2

Man i just checked out that video - aside from it being pretty damn funny, i was amazed at how much you could skydive in the game! I don't have it, but it looks like you could do some basic tracking jumps? I'm going to buy it now - we should get a group of people together, get to max altitude and see if we can film a tracking jump together. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  10. Gotcha, thanks "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  11. thanks for the info. PS how comes your non stainless hardware was ok, but the PC spring had been corroded? (which i assume was also non stainless? Is it because moisture can build up and sit around the spring, in the fabric etc?) "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  12. True, but i was thinking purely in terms of what is exposed to the salty sea air. My spring and pin are both fully covered which offers some form of anti corrosion protection, whereas rings are completely exposed. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  13. Wow man, that's a lot of work - it sure paid off though, the shot is fantastic. I also really like the "out of the door" shots that capture the "void" and feeling of getting ready to hop out into it really nicely. Thanks again "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  14. I ordered hqaving just done tandems - 9 of them (BPA wouldn't let me do AFF with a left hand student rig - dont ask me why . Bob @ Skydive DeLand sorted it out, and I intentionally ordered my rigs delivery and AFF training at DeLand to match so I could collect my jumpsuit/rig/etc whilst on holiday. I also put several hours in the Orlando tunnel How odd - i wonder what the reason stated by the BPA is for that? Anyhoo, congrats, it's a nice looking rig mate
  15. Did you order before you were off student status or before you made a single skydive? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  16. wow, those shots are AMAZING! How did you capture that multi frame night shot of the guy coming in to land? What an inspiration, thanks for sharing dude! "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  17. Gotcha, thanks for the explanation. Which video is this in? I saw some of his outside video of some of Chris Lynch and Rob Silvers team jumps when he was at the dz last month and it's pure aerial poetry in a nutshell. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  18. When is the best time of year to visit the dropzone, for good weather?
  19. Ahhh ok thanks. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  20. Can you explain how you go back up the hill? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

Do what feels right to you now. It sounds like you know what you want anyway - spending more time with the wife and working on music, right? What's the worst that can happen if you quit? Sure you might get uncurrent if you ever want to come back, you might not have any gear, but how hard is that a thing to get back again? It would be relatively easy, particularly with your level of experience. As we all know, jumping isn't cheap, isn't particularly safe and is certainly quite an addictive habit for most of us - at some point, we might need to step away from it and do something else to regain the balance, as others have said. Don't feel down about that, celebrate the fact you will be getting satisfaction out of other aspects of life. As the other guy said, the sky isn't going anywhere anyways
  22. Yeah, you look like a student! :-P Just to clarify, the lines have coloured tabs, not actually coloured lines right? Have you got packing tabs as well? ;-P Hi Craig, yeah they are coloured tabs at the end of the lines. What the heck are packing tabs? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  23. We pay over $7 a gallon here in the UK. I would give my left testicle to have gas at $3/gallon "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  24. This really shows how twisted things are. http://politics.guardian.co.uk/homeaffairs/story/0,11026,1555930,00.html Does Manfred Novak not realise that, instead of trying to protect the rights of those inciting hatred and violence, by letting them understand they will be subject to whatever goes in their country of origin if they carry on spreading hate, will hopefully be a persuador to stop them spreading hate in the first place? If it doesn't well they get what they deserve. How can we put their human rights before those of the innocent people who are being killed? This makes zero sense to me.
