Newbie replied to Newbie's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks Bill, that's what i was pretty much thinking. Just out of interest, can you let us know which mag this will appear in? I'd like to read the finished article when it's published. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts -

Is it inadvisavle (much like a standard RSL) to be using one on camera jumps in case the main snags during a cutaway? I did try and search on this as i'm sure it must have been covered, but couldn't find anything. If anyone has any links on this discussion i would be keen to read about it. ANyone got a good suggestion for a "first dance" wedding song?
Newbie replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
Thanks and thanks to all of you for your suggestions, even the not-so-serious ones We had a great day, and the song we ended up choosing was Tony Bennett's "The Way You Look Tonight" which was really nice and i can 100% recommend it to anyone wanting to slow dance their lady on the special day! This is sad sad news for all of us in the community, we have lost an absolute inspiration and bundle of positivity i have not yet seen matched in my - albeit - relatively short time in the sport. Adrian thank you for being the inspiration you have been and always will be to me. Deepest condolences to Katarina and the Nicholas family, as well as skydivers everywhere. I will be saluting you tonight Adrian with a beer and glass of red wine "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

True, good points. Either way, its a tough call, and as i said, i'm glad that i haven't been in that position, it must be very difficult. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

I guess it's whether you think they need to go off and reach the bottom of whatever is going on with them in order they then pick themselves up, or, given their known behaviour, you think you have a responsibility to those who such a person could come into contact with, and, knowing his behaviour, attempt to protect them, given the insight you have. I'm glad for one i have never been put in a position that would involve such a dilemma - but given the sort of person i am, i doubt i would stand by and let my friend do "what he had to" in order to reach rock bottom in the hopes it helps him out in the long run. How can these parents being doing such a good job of things if 35% of the kids are overweight. Personally, i think as someone mentioned, this poor/lazy parenting is leading to an epidemic of obese children who will be dieing before their parents as a result of health related disease if this carries on. I for one welcome this sort of thing. However, i do not think it's the schools job to be doing this, this is the parents job. I personally don't know how effective it would be to be giving the BMI of a kid to their parents every term/year, when those same parents obviously don't care/aren't educated enough about the health of their child to let them get like that in the first place. I would think it pertinent that you need to listen to Kanye Wests work before you classify him as a gangsta, which is about as far removed as you can get from what he is all about and where he is from (the suburbs of Chicago). It was precisely NOT being a "gangsta" that made him unmarketable enough in the first place to have his first album repeatedly pushed back from distribution. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

Can someone explain to me how this cat is dong this? (video)
Newbie replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
It's walking on it's front legs, but how is it doing this with the rest of it's body in the position it's in?? http://www.cutefunnyanimals.com/cutestcats.shtml "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts -
Well, I don't think a group of black people are about to hijack airplanes or go on a suicide bombing run through a mall. I just don't see it...it's not in our culture...unless they converted (I'll probably get shit for that one). Like Jamaican born Germain Lindsay? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamal_Lindsay "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

Nah - you can't use them as debit/credit cards. The only fee you get charged is withdrawing cash from an ATM. Otherwise what happens is you can use it anywhere Am Ex is taken (everywhere pretty much from my experience in the US) and it just takes money off the card until it's all used up. My prob is that if i put my entire holiday fundage on there ($2000) it means i have no way to get cash, unless i take it out the cash point. If i were to take out the max i could which is probably $300 a day, that's like still $5 in transaction fees and i HATE to pay the bank for anything, let alone money they don't deserve. It sort of like a top up card - use it until you are dry, then go put more money on it. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

Wow that is a pretty general stereotype of skydivers. I got to say, if anyone did research on my family, they would think I was not a member of it. Please do not contribute to the problem by making such stereotypes and assumptions. Well he does have a point - most skydivers ARE caucasoid. Not all, but the majority are. I don't agree with the generalisation, but you have to admit the stats don't lie. We are mostly honkey crackas around here, no denying, yee har etc etc "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

How'd it work out for you? If i buy a $2000 card they throw in $100 for nothing. I'm tempted, but i know cash withdrawls are subject to a 1.5% transaction fee which is a bit of a fly in the ointment. Thoughts? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

It does sound ignorant, for sure, but ignorance is defined as a lack of knowledge and that kind of attitude comes not from a lack of knowledge, but from a very paranoid interpretation of facts. Walt That sums up about most of us in SC right there... "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

No worries - you don't seem in a hurry to me at all, in fact you remind me of me a few years back. There is a definate difference in knowing your limitations but also wanting to progress, compared to not knowing when you should be stopping and asking yourself "is this actually a good idea?". You definitely seem to fall into the former category. Have fun and enjoy, and congrats again
