  1. I really have a big problem with the last statement because it turns a “right” into a “license.” No gun for somebody unless they can eliminate all doubt that they will be good with it? It’s a nigh practically impossible standard. Also – consider the same thing with other rights. Think of applying this to the Fifth Amendment – created so that a person would not have to prove innocence – being changed to “any doubt at all and you are convicted.” Or the Fourth Amendment – if you can prove that a search won’t reveal anything at all you won’t be searched. Or how about the First Amendment – if you can prove you won’t say or write anything that is seditious then you can speak your mind all you want. The Second Amendment is being popularly viewed as an exception to the standard rules. People aren’t saying, “I don’t like it but it is what it is.” People are saying that the Second Amendment should not be viewed as any of the other Amendments in the Bill of Rights. That the Second Amendment should be subsumed and ignored for the some political purpose. Note the 1st (speech), 4th (search and seizure), 5th (statements made may be incriminating, due process), and 14th Amendment (due process, privacy) issues involved as well as the 2nd Amendment issues. The “right” to a gun, under your proposal, becomes dependent on a person waiving these rights. Imagine wanting to vote and being told told, “well, before you can file it a determination must be made with respect to your mental state. You must submit your medical records from the past 15 years in order for a determination to be made as to whether you are qualified to vote.” Voting is not a “right” if you need to be given permission to do it. What I was getting at was that applications are 'really' looked at and the applicant meets the qualifications. We've all heard the stories of someone shooting up some place and it turns-out the shooter had some mental problem in their history. Chuck
  2. I think,we need to take away thecrazies! I really believe, deeper background checks and thorough inspections of those checks would do some good. Any doubt at all and 'No gun for you!' My big thing in regard to any new gun laws and we're going to see them, be done with thought and common sense. We gotta quit the 'knee-jerk'. We need some sanity. A severe crack-down on gang-bangers would bea good thing. Chuck
  3. blacks and hispanics should not be allowed. A-hem... Isn't that profiling? what is/was the race of the Colorado theatre shooter? or the guy in Connecticut? We gotta be PC, these days! Chuck
  4. According to Biden, he stated that we need a 'common sense approach' to the gun issue. I don't see 'common sense' in Obama's approach. Even the husband of Congresswoman Gifford stated that he and his wife are gun owners and that we need a common sense approach to the gun issue. I whole-heartedly agree with Gifford's thinking but common sense/politicians is an oxy-moron. We have to get away from knee-jerk reactions. Chuck
  5. Dish Network charges $145.00 (approx.) As soon as I heard the lock-out was official, I cancelled my subscription to the NHL channels. What I didn't like about it was, they didn't cover the play-offs or the Finals. We had to put-up with Pierre and co. Chuck
  6. Well, the NHL did kinda' piss on their own pump handle. Chuck
  7. I'm not dismissing anything. Native people are still with us. What I'm saying is, it's something our fore-fathers did, not us. Fixing the problem is complicated and until our government changes it's attitude, the problem will persist. Chuck
  8. That was then, this is now. How 'bout you lead the parade to the ships and planes headed back to Europe, Asia, and wherever else. Then, all the other people in the world can take our places. Where are the Native people then? Chuck
  9. It's not just people from Mexico, wanting into this country. We're dealing with Central and South America, also. With a sprinkling of folks from other countries. This country of ours is running out of room due to population. We used to 'feed the world' but we're losing millions of acres of farm and ranchland to urban sprawl, we are beginning to have a problem just feeding our present population. The main point is, we are getting more criminals sneaking across the border. The days of the migrant farmhand looking to pick lettuce are gone. We're getting too many wanting to get in on the very lucrative drug trade. We've got to do something about it and we're only about 40-yrs. too late. Chuck
  10. Here's one reasn we need to know just who is coming into this country! http://home.myhughesnet.com/news/read.php?rip_id=%3CDA3LNM882%40news.ap.org%3E&ps=1018 Besides the drug runners and other un-desirables. Chuck
  11. That was a sorry thing they pulled. I don't blame you. Chuck
  12. Maybe, they need a BIG cut in their salaries. That might just lead to more affordable ticket prices for the less wealthy who can't afford tickets. Professional sports is way out of whack. Chuck
  13. As for personalities, I don't know any of them. It's just the 'greed' factor that reared it's ugly head with this lockout. Both sides, the player's union as well as the League. Professional athletes make way too much for what they do... that goes for all MLB, NBA, NHL and NFL athletes. The whole lockout thing was strictly over money. Meanwhile, hard working people were out of work. Concession workers, security, parking lot attendants, janitors, restaurants, bars and so-on. Those folks had to tough it out while the players had to live off their big bank accounts. Not very fair to me! Chuck
  14. I've ben a life-long fan of hockey but this last exhibition of greed by all parties involved is a little hard to take. Will I come back as a fan? The jury is still out. Chuck
  15. I could go along with that but in reality, I don't see it happening. Chuck
  16. That's the govt plan to scare off the Mexicans. I don't think it's working. Chuck That's the problem with the plan: unlike bears, Mexicans hibernate in the heat, not the cold. At least the ones in the old movies do. http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/dailyrft/siesta.jpg They need to re-think that one. Chuck
  17. Anymore than that and they get like fish left on a counter too long... they start to smell! I think, after awhile, they tend to lose sight of their jobs and sell-out to lobbyista and become too self absorbed and tend to forget why they are there. Chuck
  18. That's the govt plan to scare off the Mexicans. I don't think it's working. Chuck
  19. Agreed. If anything, term limits are growing, not shrinking, in popularity. I think, Congressmen and Senators be limited to two terms. Maybe, that would avoid any of them getting too powerful. Chuck
  20. We got10" of the white stuff this past Thursday, here in West Texas. Over night lows in the low 20's. Chuck
  21. I thought, when you're drunk, pizza was always a good idea.
  22. I tend to agree with you. I can't see where 'special interests' or any other pork-barrel spending is mentioned. That is a huge problem and not addressed? To me, this bill is total bull-shit. Chuck
  23. Sorry, man. That has been whistled about since time immemorial and rarely is anything meaningful accomplished at election time. 'Mericans, as a whole are even more divided than the politicians are. You can't get enough of them together at the same time to make positive changes. Well... it was a thought. Looks like we're gonna have a tough row to hoe. Chuck
