  1. The son of a bitch needed it! Chuck Amen. That's the ol' Southern defense, "He jes needed killin'." The way I see it, he brought it on himself. He knew the rules of the game. Chuck
  2. If Alcohol and Tobacco are legal, Marijuana should be as well. Compared to booze and cigarettes, pot is a gift from God. FWIW, I don't touch any of it - ever - but think the "War on Drugs" is one of the single dumbest concepts ever concocted. It is based on the kind of "good intentions" with which the road to hell is paved. BSBD, Winsor You and I are on the same page here with one exception. I believe the "war on drugs" was a political decision and had little to do with good intentions. Bottom line, it did very little good. The war seemed to have provided some excellent training for our black ops personnel. Pablo Escobar was taken out and it remains a mystery who fired the kill shot. I've had the opportunity to talk with several DEA agents and their response to the question about the 'war on drugs' was... 'it's a joke!' I've often wondered, how many politicians and those in authority, are in the 'pockets' of the drug cartels. Chuck

  4. Correct, but that's how the young man gets over the turmoil in his mind, because it was the INTRUDER'S actions that forced the young man to do it. It's not like the young man shot someone without a valid reason, or as a criminal act, or out of hatred. He's got nothing to be ashamed of. Absolutley However (and I am not disagreeing with you here) we here in the US haven given a value to life that that makes dealing with pumping lead into someone tough to deal with regardless of the situation. Police see this all the time. Even when totally justified, it is hard to live with. I think, it depends on the person and their ability to do their job. Years ago, while my wife was in law enforcement, she was involved in a late night stand-off. A deputy had earlier, tried to serve a murder warrant on the guy. The guy was barricaded in his house and using a .38 and a 12-gauge. My wife was covering the back of the house while other deputies were covering the front. The guy fired a couple shots in my wife's direction. She returned 5 shots, aiming at the muzzle flashes. At some point, the guy turned around and was hit 5 times in the butt from her .357. At that point, the house was secured and the bad guy was taken to the hospital. My wife went about 'working' the scene and was asked if, she was all-right and if, she wanted to take a break. she informed her captain, she had 'a job to do!' Situations effect different people differently. Chuck Good example And of course taking someone down is different than ending a life In the situation I mentioned, it was nightime and quite dark. Then too, she was, an adult. Things could be different for a 15-yr. old. The way I see it, the young man did what he had to do to protect his sister and himself. I would say, he's been raised right. Chuck

  6. Of course not...Anne Coulter said that "there is no more racism in America..." so just let it go... There you have it, folks! Chuck
  7. Well, as we know, one president's "need" is another president's "want", you know? OK: really really need? I suppose try to do it via volunteers if we can; otherwise I guess we have to draft them. But in my book, it has to be pretty fucking bad before we go and do that. You bet! Chuck
  8. Some of the criminal street gangs are looking long range and taking kids when they're associating in the 8-10yr old range and keeping them clean with no ink and no or a very minor record. This is with the explicit goal of getting them in the military to be able to come back and train gang members or gain access to hardware. There have been rumors about the same in regards to prison guards! Some familiar names have popped up in regards to the above, like Latin Kings as well as various white supremacy gangs. Thanks, Dave! I've read and heard where the 'young ones' are more reckless and real quick to kill. Chuck
  9. I do know, peanut shells are mixed with cattle feed. I tried eating a 'whole' peanut' and it was like... p-tooie... Chuck Much obliged.
  10. You and I are 'Nam-era kids, Chuck. This is a very old debate, isn't it? Look, in principle, I can get behind a mandatory, gender-neutral public service requirement. But the problem with military conscription in the US is that the US government (regardless of political party) doesn't just use its military for true "defense", it also uses a huge amount of its military to wage bullshit foreign wars and interventions that have little to do with "defense", and much to do with projection of power for power's sake (read: inter-continental dick-swinging) and exploitation of other countries' people and resources. I'll be damned if I'll support a draft to squander our kids' lives to that kind of shit any more. I sure see your point. Something I'd really like to know is, when did God come-down and state that the U.S.A. was to police the world? Don't get me wrong, I am in no way, in favor of the senseless killing of our young men and women. I saw too much of that in the '60's and '70's. It was on the 6:00 news, every night. There comes a time when we actually do, have to stand-up and defend our country. I don't think, we've really seen an occasion like that since WW-II. When we really do need 'troops'... how do we get them? Chuck

    OMG 25000

That would be BillVon the Prolific Moderator I was wondering when. Bill's name would enter the equation! That guy is all over the place! Chuck
  13. That is exactly the oppisit of what they get with the draft! I remember when the draft ended, the quility of the soldiers instantly went up, they were getting warm bodies that "wanted" to fight for their country...not those that were just too stupid to get out of it! Like I said, they need to look closer at potential recruits. Gang tatoos should be a dead give-away. I remember too, the end of the draft. They held a 'lottery' I drew #358. Then too, when the pressure is on recruiters, they'll sign anyone. When volunteer numbers drop, what do they do? It's a bit of a 'Catch-22'. Chuck
  14. You left one out... 'Run to Canada'! later, you get amnesty from the Pres.! All this 'anti draft' stuff, confuses me. People want all the wonderful things this country offers but don't want to serve to protect their country. In other countries, military service is mandatory for both men and women! We're just so damned 'spoiled' in this country, with a 'Let somebody else do it... I ain't gonna'! attitude. they'd rather sit-back and bellyache and moan about how tough they have it. Chuck
  15. The military got in a bind for troops and for some time, was accepting every 'warm body' willing to sign on the dotted line to fill ranks. I think, the military needs to scrutinize potential troops a tad closer. Maybe, we should re-instate the draft! Chuck
  16. On seconf thought, lying about an STD is lower than low. As we know, that could cost a life. The others would probably, just cost some tears or a good ass-whoopin'. Chuck
  17. I don't see any of those you mentioned as being worse than any other. They are all lies and lies don't make a good foundation for anything, let alone a relationship. Chuck
  18. Chuck: Don't hate on Arkansas like that. I wasn't really hatin'. I was just messin'. I really have some good-good memories of my travels through Arkansas over the years. I was always treated kindly and met some really good people there. Besides that, there's a lot of beauty there, too! Chuck
  19. I see you've met my repairman! Yessir! Size 18 is what I use for E-thread. What I was getting at was proper needle length for that machine. For my 7-33, Brenda Reid sent me some needles for it several years ago and those things look like steel posts! Then too, that's what it takes for 5 and 6-cord. Chuck
  20. It's better than sending a Halmark Card. Nothin' like a Texas 'greeting card'! When you care enough... Chuck And he thinks it's is middle name that upsets people. That's '1'... Chuck

  22. I wouldn't use 3in1 oil! I'd be willing to bet, that's what froze it up in the first place. 3in1 oil gets very tacky with time. Any sewing store will carry a good, light, sewing machine oil. You might check with a sewing machine repairman in regard to needle size. I doubt he's charge you for a phone call. I would agree with the other poster, it should be able to handle 0-P, rip-stop and a couple layers of cordura or para-pack. Looks like a neat old machine.
  23. Now, that's getting rid of some frustration! Chuck
  24. Will her campaign and her post as SOS be in conflict? I'd love to see her debate Sarah P. That, would be interesting! Two very 'self-absorbed' verbally sparring and neither one with a clue! Chuck
  25. The Chinks who built the railroad that helped his forefathers violently conquer the Injuns. http://health.usi.edu/faculty/India/India%20Family.jpg No, not those Injuns. http://www.old-picture.com/indians/pictures/Indian-Warriors.jpg yeah, those. ...and what about your forefathers? I notice, you taking-up for Native people, quite often. Are those your forefathers? What have you done or what do you do for them today? I'm just asking. Chuck
