So - I have an idea how to close off the leak in the gulf.
masterrig replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
In all seriousness, whatever it takes to fix it and quick. Chuck -
That's exactly my point. Assuming you are typical, how could he possibly get an impartial jury? Not looking good in Peru! Chuck

I agree. He sounds more and more like a classic predator. He had a protected life of privilege, and that grew into a sense of entitlement. By getting away with the stuff he did (when his father protected him), that sense of entitlement was reinforced. I wonder how many other cases his father's influence protected him from. Good question. Chuck

Chilean and Peruvian police feel the same way. After reading all the columns and hearing the news stories about this guy, it's fairly difficult to feel otherwise. Chuck

Ding ding ding...we have a winner. Few people realize the shark problem Aruba has. Hotels and restaurants dump their food into the ocean up by California lighthouse in an effort to keep the sharks in that area and away from Palm Beach and the resorts. I've said for years that she, and probably a few others have been fed to the sharks after Joran and his friends had their way with them. That's what Peruvian police are wondering... how many others? Sadly, we may never know. Chuck

Who knows. At the end of the interrogation he dangles a carrot. Get me out of Peru and I'll "help" with the Holloway case. That's his M.O. He tells some 'story' then say's he lied. The authorities are wise to him and take him with a grain of salt. What Dutch authorities should do is 'visit' him in Peru. Then see how talkative he is. Just heard! van der Sloot's private attorney quit him! Noone knows if, van der Sloot will get a court appointed attorney or not. Chuck Or if they wanted to, take his sorry ass back to Aruba and have him SHOW where the body is. If there is anything left that can be identified, then the case can be closed, and then ship his sorry ass back to Peru to serve for his crime there, but don't tell him that part beforehand. There ya' go! Sounds good to me! I guess, if he throws the cops a slider, they could ship his sorry ass back to Peru and put him in 'gen-pop'! What I'm curious about is, one of his 'tales', he mentioned that Natalie wanted to see the sharks or something like that. I'd just imagine, he raped her, murdered her and had his two buddies throw her body in the ocean where the sharks are. Chuck

Several years ago, they were available with a skydiver wearing a Vector, Racer, Javelin and etc. Some harness-container manufacturer's used to carry them (as I was informed) If, Square One doesn't have what you want, you might contact one or the harness-container manufacturers. They might lead you in the right direction. Chuck

Yessir! I understood that and wasn't referring to you but rather, the U.S. population in general. In that we don't seem to understand it unless it's 'like in the U.S.' Chuck
-
Yup! We'll have to see first if he does get convicted in Peru. If, he is not convicted in Peru, does this mean that the Dutch will once again drop the Holloway case? Chuck
-
Neither you nor I are in a position to know the complete circumstances of his interrogation. In any event, admissibility of his confession would be only one issue if he was in the US. The other issue would be whether he could ever get an impartial jury, given that the police have bent over backwards to try and convict him in the news media. And I have to admit (confess?) - they've done a pretty good job of it. Anyhow, it's not the US, it's Peru, so whatever. We in the U.S. compare the rest of the world to what is in the U.S.A. From food to laws, whatever. However van der Sloot is interrogated, tried and or convicted is up to Peruvian law and the way they do things. We really don't have any say in it. It might be different if, he had broken some law in the U.S. but he hasn't. We can only be observers. Chuck

Emphasis on 'supposed to be'! Chuck On the other hand, if a large wedding ring is put on it, it will stop putting out FOR SURE. Ding, ding, ding... wehave a winner! Chuck -

Staging Scenes and Tampering with Evidence...
masterrig replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
considering other agents have been put in jail for doing their jobs, yeah. Me, with my current training... I'd have cut and run. AND I have the balls to say it. put me through their training, give me their resources, I might know more about what's available and my answer might change. Until then, yeah, I'd cut and run to my vehicle where a rock, or brick, or cinder block wouldn't injure me. This would have been the best approach. There were also adults, throwing rocks at Border Patrol agents. Also, they aren't trained to 'cut and run'. Bottom line here is, the agents were being assaulted with 'deadly weapons'. Rocks CAN kill! The Agents were just better prepared. Those folks knew exactly what was going on. It's a very common 'tactic' for helpine mules get across the border. I don't like the idea of a kid being killed but he was old enough to know better and from the story I read, had been told to stay away from the area he was in. Chuck -
Staging Scenes and Tampering with Evidence...
masterrig replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
I've been discussing this in PM with the OP. I will amend my statement above by saying that given the incomplete picture of the situation that we all have, were I the officer in question, I believe I would have abandoned my suspect and sought refuge in my vehicle, or out of range of the rock-throwers. I also understand that I cannot know what was really going on there (nor can any of us here) nor what I really would have done had I been that officer. There ya' go! None of us was there. The thing is, that Agent can use his firearm to defend his life or another life. You don't just give-up your suspect. That's why they were throwing rocks, to get the Agent to leave. From all I've read on the subject, right now, it appears the Agent was within his rights. Also, the fact that (what appeared to be) a cop from Mexico crossed to this side of the border, picked something up and placed it by the body. Shortly thereafter, a .40 cal. casing is found next to the body!?? Like I said earlier, they aren't throwing pea-pebbles. They are throwing 2-5lb. rocks! I would consider that a deadly weapon. Border Patrol Agents get that kind of treatment on a too regular basis. Little pebbles don't get thrown at them but bricks, bottles, anything. Some of those rocks weigh anywhere from 2 to 5-lbs.! Kids are paid by drug cartels and human smugglers to divert attention so they can get drugs or humans into this country. Agents are continually getting injured or killed in this manner. That Agent was defending his life. Chuck -
Damn, I envy you!!! What a fantastic experience. He wasn't to rough on you... was he? Of all the famous people in the world to meet, I have always wanted to meet Gordie Howe. Chuck

Those guys were definately, memory makers. It was good to see an 'Original Six' team win the Cup. Especially after facing Philly. All the Philly goons couldn't pull it off. Chuck Very different then, no helmets, 12 teams (until '70) - that really made it feel like a different league. I really didn't like Tony Esposito's brother Phil or the entire Boston team, and thought Bobby Orr was especially irritating also. It probably had something to do with them being so good. Gordie Howe was still playing. Howe was known for his quick elbows. Seldom did he get caught. could put a man on the ice so fast, he didn't know what hit him. Later played with his two boys for the Hartford Whalers and the Houston Aeros. Quit playing when he was 50. The esposito brothers were like night and day on the ice. Bobby Orr was great to watch. I think, my favorite player to watch is Pavel Datsyuk. Chuck

Ya' want some cheese with that whine? Look at it this way... it doesn't happen that often. Grab a big lemonade and find a place on the parade route. Chuck

I'm not even the commish and knew it was 49-yrs. Bettman needs to go back to basketball. Chuck
-
I gotta give the Philly fans a cheer for booing the commish! Did you hear Bettman say that the Blackhawks hadn't won the Cup in '29 years'? He only missed it by 20-yrs. whatta maroon! anyhow... enjoyed talking hockey with all y'all. What a great play-off season. From start to finish. See y'all back here, next year. Chuck
