    I was attempting to point-out some of the causes for high prices for vegetables. With those growers paying cash to illegals, leaves things wide-open for the 'middle man' to make his profit. The way I see it, there are laws on the books (have been for decades) to penalize those hiring illegals. I feel strongly, these laws should be enforced. We have and will, pay top dollar regardless.     Yes, they do have all the 'proper' paperwork, are paid by check (try getting into the local bank at noon on the 15th. and 30th. of the month) taxes are taken out as well as Social Security. Chuck

    I've noticed a sharp increase in the price of groceries, meat, produce & etc. since fuel prices have greatly increased. As for illegal farm workers keeping food costs down, I can't agree with that. In the area where I live, there are several huge greenhouses where tomatoes are grown. All the help is brought in on a daily basis from Mexico in vans. These folks are paid minnimum wage, yet, the price of tomatoes keeps going up. This is due to the chemicals used, insecticides, the 'special' material the plants are grown in, shipping costs and etc. All those costs increase over time and in the end, it's the consumer who pays. chuck

    He's done some really crappy things in regards to the Board of Regents and the administration of Texas A&M. He is charged with appointing the Board, but he is supposed to stay out of the day to day running of the University. It has upset a lot of Former Students. Noone can blame those former students! He needs to keep his nose out of it. I dang sure didn't vote for him in the last election. Sad thing is, he's got too many people fooled... enough to keep him in office. I really don't care for the idea of him running for president. I think, he'd sell his mother if he thought he'd gain from it. Chuck

    On the downside he's another entitled Ross Volunteer/Yell Leader (if any other Aggies read that, they'll understand). On the upside, he takes border security seriously and understand the real and deadly threat. I will give him that... his seriousness about our border. He has pushed for expanded highways (la Entrada al Pacifico) to bring Chinese goods out of Mexico, bound for Midland/Odessa and Dallas. To those of us who live in far West Texas, we don't like the idea of big rigs running through our towns. I know personally, ranchers who have lost grazing land (eminant domain) so by-pass routes could be built. While 'Town Hall' meetings were being held, in regard to these highways, work on them continued. Work was supposed to have been stopped. I just get the impression that he's 'dirty'. Chuck

    It was meant to be a joke "for the most part". I live in Mississippi, and its not the folks with the accents that I can't understand. Nothing wrong with pronouncing stuff differently, but in some of the very "urban" and also very "rural" extremes, there are dialects down here that are virtually impossible to understand, and it goes beyond accents. It has almost evolved into a language of its own for that locality. I'm also an avid kayaker, and I run into some serious backwoods rednecks on some of these rivers that I just have to nod and smile when they try to talk to me, and its not just their accent. Sorry, I missed the humor in your post. I understand what you're saying. Some of it is like ebonics or something. With some of those backwoods boys, you don't know what they might do. You do, get into some strange territory! Chuck

    Fine. And if a legal immigrant still wishes to speak in their native language and use an interpreter after 20+ years on the topic of immigration in a government meeting, that can be questioned as well as severely compromise their argument.

    That could be taken as a 'dig' on Americans living in the Southern U.S. If, you listen closely to someone from the South speaking, you can hear a bit of Scot, Irish accent. That's due to the fact Scot, Irish is their heritage. In some our Northern, mid-western states, there is bit of a Swedish accent and so-on. If, one 'tunes' their ear, folks with an accent aren't so hard to understand. It's called 'listening! Chuck
