    RIP: my car

andy, i've been looking at new cars lately too, and if you remember how tall i am then you understand how hard this has been for me! i've looked at a ton of stuff, and the only things i can afford in the under $20K range are: ford taurus chevy malibu toyota matrix, RAV4, camry acura RL or TL (used) buying a new car sure sounds like a great idea but as soon as i start adding in the options then a $16K car quickly becomes a low twenty-something car! if you're content with paying invoice on a new car, check out autobytel.com. i talked to one of the reps from them in kansas and he can sell me any car in his 6-state area at invoice, no haggling necessary. not a bad deal, but that would still cost more than i want to pay. i'm really digging the RAV4. i drove my roommate's a few weeks back when my car broke down. it gets great mileage (24city/29hwy, great for dz road trips that i do EVERY weekend) and has more head room then a friend's expedition. and my legs easily fit under the steering column. let me know how your luck goes with new or used, i think i'm going to slow down my search for a week or two. b

    Weekend numbers

good to hear everybody had a SAFE weekend! 2 pussies (of the feline sort) petted : 0 jumps : 0 beerz owed/MANY beerz consumed! and i didn't even get a car like i had planned... the 2002 RAV4 that i wanted is just too out of my range to buy with a clear conscious. guess it's time for me to start looking for a used one oh well my car-buying-induced jump-hiatus is over, i think i'm just going to drive my rusty ol cavalier for another 8 years!
  4. hell yeah that is a nice shot! but what are you doing bungee jumping? that's DANGEROUS! why don't you stick to something safe like skydiving???
  5. i would have disputed that with you a couple hours ago, but after that beating carolina took this evening i'm not too sure if they can come back from being down 3-1! it was a tight game, cept the wings deserved more payback for some of the crap they were getting away with! b
  6. this is my kind of thread!
  7. holy cow this page is COOOOOL!
  8. my ears didn't like scuba diving immediately, but they didn't like jumping right away either. now neither is a problem, cept i did get a nasty ear ache the other weekend after jumping a king air on a horrible hangover. could they be related? i don't know. what kind of plane will you be jumping? i'm from a cessna dz, so equalization is never an issue. i have gotten annoyed a few times when jumping turbines that climb a bit faster, but i just try to chew gum or yawn a bunch to keep things working right. hope the jump goes good for your friend! b
  9. dave, i might make it but if so just for one day. i have got to buy a car on saturday...my old one is suffering through it's last days, suffering, and i really want to get rid of it before i forget the good times and remember only this last painful frusturating week! so yeah if anything i may try to find someone to fly up there with on sunday. not sure though, i will probably empty my account on a down payment. we shall see! there should be plenty of iowa jumpers there from sdIA and couchfreaks so the parties are bound to be crazy and go till sunrise!

  12. zeros across the board... spent the weekend car shopping and partying with whuffos, today was spent on recovering mostly. been a few months since i've partied till sunrise

    My life...

best wishes to your marc. at least you have the coolest damn jumpsuit i've ever seen
  14. hey marc, you know i'm not entirely sure they could have very easily been volunteer EMT-B's, our dz isn't exactly in a large town. i have not had a chance to go to the ambulance service and pick up my run ticket yet. i got my ticket from the ER though...pretty funny..."9:35 - patient requests morphine, administered. 9:37 - patient requests more morphine" something like that
  15. check, check, check. yeah so i've got this skydiving problem too. i really manage to piss off tons of my old friends. see, i drive north 3 hours to jump, but rarely hang out with any of my friends up there because they are not at the dropzone. i'm feeling pretty bad about this email i just got... this is from a buddy who moved to the east coast before i started jumping and now just moved back to within a half hour of my dz. i certainly can't tell him to piss off but i'm not too sure how long i can handle a guilt trip from him and his wife! i like hanging out with my whuffo friends everynow and then, but they have a real hard time understanding how hanging out with me is totally dependent on the weather conditions!
  16. ok now i know what i'm saying may sound morbid and uncaring initially, but read on, this is something we have discussed at my dz and there is merit to it. i don't know if it's really about being mentally prepared for an accident, but reading this post made me think of this topic. if there is a bad accident, and i'm NOT referring to a fatality accident, ***keep video cameras rolling***. there should be plenty of pc-9's and pc-100's running around that this shouldn't be an issue. BACKGROUD TO THIS ODD STATEMENT: so my buddy and i were in a bad accident back in october, both with back injuries and me with a nastily broken arm. the EMT crew administered incorrect treatment for our injuries, thinking that we merely made a small fall as opposed to having an forward/downward impact with the ground at nearly 50mph. the poor care on-scene possibly complicated our injuries. doctors would have been able to heal us quicker if knowing the full extent of the added injury caused by the care provided shortly after the accident. also, the director of the ambulance service could see the quality of service that her employees were providing. video evidence would not be used in an effort to sue or sour the relations with the city and or ambulance service. fact is, we will need to seek their help again someday. perfect safety records are nice, but chances are that some year we will have to call another ambulance to the airport for whatever reason. i only pray that anyone in the future would receive more professional and CORRECT immediate medical treatment than we were receipents of. i'm not saying get in peoples' faces with the camera, just have someone hold back and let the professionals do their job once they arrive. other than that, everyone should know their basic first aid stuff well, and not crowd the person laying on the ground too much. being in shock is a pretty wild ride. well have i rambled enough? hope a few of you made sense of my point through the gibberish. blue 1's, billo
  17. oh shit too funny!!! LMAO! i'm never going to be able to say "sorry i stuck my head in your crotch" after a funneled exit again at the dz!
  18. (with only 9 minutes left in the birthday) happy bday man! have some fun blue 1's this weekend!
  19. i dunno, the movie doesn't seem that much different overall but the initial meteor scenes do make you gasp a bit more. ok, i gotta come out of the closet on this one...i really do like this movie! i know that everything about the movie is crap, but for some reason i will always watch it if it is on and don't delay to put it in the dvd player whatsoever!
  20. i would love to make richmond some year, but as long as i am in the midwest, my soul belongs to the couch freaks.
  21. aagghh! i'm so jealous! i really miss bent prop and everything else down at eloy! haven't been down since the 2000/2001 new years boogie cause i couldn't jump during this past new years boogie. o well there's always this year - only about 6 months more to go! (better buy my ticket ASAP!)
  22. hell yeah...why can't all weekends be 3 days long? it was definately a good one! hey i hit 400, i looove pie! --- wearing freefly pants is not a crime --- b
  23. damn i finally got my internet back now that i've moved! lets see if i remember...humps, jumps, beerz? 0:17:plenty first time i packed my own reserve first time i almost had a reserve premature by getting the handle yanked out of the velcro on a dock 400th jump 4th hour freefall first good 3 headdown docks first time i managed to hitchhike a ride back to the dz from a total stranger first crew dock since the tragic wrap of 10/21 hell plenty of other stuff. first sunburn of the season! may there be many more to come
  24. hixxx! i just heard about this the past weekend, but unfortunately can't go... alot of other folks from couch freaks and rest of iowa are thinking about it. is it the cool helicopter where the ride is better than that jump (the one from WFFC?) i already booked a killer weekend in KC with some friends from NY and chicago so i can't make it, but i sure wish i could! --- wearing freefly pants is not a crime --- b
  25. my sister helped my mom out on that one, so i'm in the clear for awhile!
