Just a story of my accomplishments in landing :)
beowulf replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
There comes a point when it's common sense. I'm not going to answer that My question in that is what more would I learn from fully stalling the canopy? Am I missing something. -

I have fully stalled my canopy. But I still don't really see the advantage in fully stalling as opposed to just knowing at what point the canopy begins to stall. In landing you would never want to go past the point where the canopy begins to stall Right? -

Catholics have done a lot of things that would make me skeptical of them. Burning people for translating the bible would be one that comes to mind. -

It may have some great wisdom and truth but that doesn't mean it was inspired or written by "God" -

But the books were written by 1st Century Jews. Yes but the catholics put in what they wanted and left out what they didn't like. I find it unlikely that they were very objective in what they chose. -

For the Old Testament you are likely right. They are fables to prove a point or show an example, not necessarily truth. No different than Roman or Greek mythology. New Testament I see as far more historical in nature and actually really intresting reading about life at that time. I don't know that it was inspired by God or not, but also don't think the entire thing is fiction. The roots of the New Testament probably are reality to those who wrote the words. Jen The New Testament was put together by the Roman Catholic church for the most part. I don't consider it entirely fiction nor entirely fact. I would say it is based on a true story. Kind of like when a movie is based aon a true story. -

Pretty tough restriction you've put on yourself but it's still possible. -

I understand needing to know where the stall point is on a canopy, but I don't understand why I would want to push it beyond the stall point? -

I just don't think that the bible was either inspired or written by "God". It is a compilation of folk stories chosen by a group of men a long time ago. Anyone trying to convince me of the existance of "God" will have to do so with out the bible. -
Weird quirky things skyjumpers have in common...
beowulf replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I have noticed that most view the cost of anything in number of jumps. ie that t shirt is one jump. How badly to I really need a new t shirt? -

I believe that "God" is an invention of man used to control other men. It has been long proven to be a very effective tool. Most people feel that they must have something to believe in. They have to have something that explains why and how we came to be here. "God" supplies those answers. There doesn't need to be any proof of any kind just faith. If makes people feel good to know all they have to do is certain specific things and every thing will be all right. Kind of like a security blanket. Me personally I don't have that need. I don't believe in any god at all. But I also don't believe in evolution. For me there just isn't enough information to determine how we were created. I don't pretend to have any answers and I am comfortable with not having all the answers as many religions profess to have. I do have a strong dislike for Christianity. Over all they are arrogant and intolerant of anyone else's beliefs. That includes Muslims. They think every one is wrong and they are right and do their best to try to convert everyone they meet. I just try to live my life with honor and dignity. -

Oh, in that case, please re-read weegegirl's post above. Isn't there someone you knoiw that has W2k? All you need is the CD, as that is the boot disk. If you can boot the computer from the CD, chances are pretty good that you could fix the problems. the more times that you boot up that laptop with the bad drive in it the more the drive will be damaged. You really need to leave the computer off till you get a converter and get the info off the drive as soon as possible.

If you click on system documentation it shows you how to replace the harddrive. What they call the Package that the drive is in should not be a problem. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/en/product_support_hub?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

What is the make and model of your laptop?

Great! Now, assuming I find this thing, should I be able to read the laptop drive w/ Win2k on a desktop with WinXP? If I can just get a few files off, I'll then consider trying to salvage the drive itself. For the moment I just want to get my resume off as I don't have time between now and an interview on Friday morning to rewrite it. that shouldn't be a problem WinXp uses NTFS. You probably won't be able to read all of the info on the drive. Chances are that you will be able to at least get your resume.
