  1. You should see local legend Jim Brieley... hes 78 and still actively jumping, he has over 2000 jumps(i think) and made his first one in WW2. A few months back for his 78 B'day he planned to do 7 jumps then 8 the next day..i think he ended up doing 17 for the w/e!
  2. Is it just me or would you say this is a close call? http://para-net.org/paramag/archives/directlive/direct176/images/skyb.mov Also check this out, awesome wingsuit flying a few meters above a snow covered mountain: http://para-net.org/paramag/archives/directlive/direct193/images/THE_DOM2.MOV
  3. Do you really want to encourage him??? after his effort at Corowa on the unicycle on New Years eve that was enough for me!
  4. 1 so far...didnt see the impact but was at the DZ, when I heard the impact I thought the plane had crashed, it was bloody loud. Glad I didnt see it, the aftermath of someone who went in HD at 300km/h+ (im guessing) was bad enough. Luckily a tandem with family there (including kids) who were right next to the impact area had just gone inside to watch a tandem vid so they missed the impact by a couple of minutes
  5. Approx 1800ft - open at 1400...got a bit too eager tracking away from a large formation
  6. Hey, just wanted to say sorry about Paul. Don't think I ever said that to you since you got back, figured you wouldnt want some bozo who barely knew you guys when you left to bug ya about it and been feeling kinda bad about not saying anything since.
  7. Try using a program like HTTP Tunnel (www.http-tunnel.com), it works by bypassing the traffic to the FTP to another server, which then contacts the FTP site for you, it will be a bit slower due to the extra routing invlolved but it wont be much, all you have to do is point the program to the proxy server at your work then use a FTP client, tell it you are using a proxy and point it at 127.0.0.1 port 1080 and all should be good
  8. I cant remember what actually got me to start thinking about it but I remember when I was 16 I wanted to do it so I talked my Dad into taking me down to the local DZ but I never ended up jumping..both parents managed to talk me out of it until I was 18.. they must of thought it was a passing phase or sumthing Anyway I had forgotten all about it by the time I was 18 but one day was I was bored at home during a beautiful sunny day and the idea popped in my head so I booked in to do a SL course for that w/e. I spent a year doing the course but managed to fail many jumps (unstable all the time but always pulled on time at least
  9. Yeah my doc said the same thing at least but I kept telling him that wasnt an option until he relented and gave me 9-12 months I know I cant rush it back but right now my back feels great considering, there virtually no pain and only gets sore after sitting down for a while...I almost wish I was in a bit more pain so I wouldnt so bad being grounded. Thanks for the advice anyway

    Tipping

Dunno if its just me but it seems AMericans love to tip for anything, over here in Oz no one generally does it (or maybe its just me being a stingy bastard )

  12. Well with the lack of canopy control skills of some of the guys at the DZ I dont blame them!
  13. Thanks for the info, ive been doing pretty much what you did...shitloads of walking, cant do much else till I get this brace off though . Good thing is right now over here its winter so im not missing out on much jumping but once summer comes up damn its gonna be depressing being stuck on the ground...oh well serves me right for fucking up i guess
  14. 2K. If ya gonna do a Hop 'n Pop might as well scare the shit out of yourself
  15. Damn if I used that excuse for not buying beer at my DZ I'd be shot
  16. Hey all, ive recently busted my back (crushed L1 vertabrae) and had 4 rods and screws put in plus a bone graft from my hip bone to fuse the vertabrae. While it is healing I have to wear a hyperextension type brace for up to 3 months (been 1 month so far). Ive been told ill be out of jumping from anywhere from 6 to 12 months (the rods come out in 9-12 months). I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has had a similar injury happen to them and if they can give me some details like how long there were out of the sport, future back problems they had etc Cheers
  17. The closeest DZ to you is Commando Skydivers , which have just moved from Pakenham to Tooradin which is right next to Western Port Bay, they are not taking any students right now as the paddock to be used for student ops isnt setup yet but it should be by the time you get back. Theres also Barwon heads which is on the other side of Port Phillip Bay but I think they only do TAF over there so its a bit more expensive (not 100% sure on that). And of course youve got Nagambie which is a bit of a drive but not a bad place, that $3400 'special' sounds like a bit of a rip off though.
  18. Hey all, since i wont be jumping for a while (having a broken back doesnt help) I need a fix for my addiction. So Id like to know everyones fav movie from ftp.skydivingmovies.com so I can do a bit of d/l, dont care if its BASE, freefly, RW etc...just need something to fill the time in!
  19. Ive had contact for ages and no problems jumpign with them. Ive even had my google come off in freefall a couple of times and luckily didnt loose my contacts (having to tractr and dump with my eyes almost fully closed is bloody scary though
  20. Had a mate do that a few months back...managed to knock the main pin out so the Dbag fell out just before he got off...so be careful
  21. no just Sam, we both know he's soft enough to actually bother tracking off at 4000' hehe
