We posted this about the same time, I was in events. This is a sad situation,I was looking forward to helping out this year. To the point of doing something I said I would never do and that was to change the dates for SkyFest. So my question now is does SkyFest go 10 days? Anyway, raise a beer to the falling of a great event and the memories that it produced. Oh wait, I can never get back some of those days I dont remember

Mar 27th 2007 Don Kirlin and the World Free Fall Convention announced today the 2007 event has been cancelled. Citing logistic and personal reasons, the world's largest skydiving event is taking a break. The convention has always been on the cutting edge of the industry. From unusual jump ships to manufacturers with new products to debut, the convention has been the place that lured skydivers from around the world to Illinois for 10 days each year. As the sport has changed over the years, the convention has taken on many different looks appealing to different segments of the industry. The convention takes months of planning and money to strive to be what it's founder, Don Kirlin believed in most... He always challenged his team to produce the best skydiving event in the world year after year. After 17 years, and moving the event from Quincy, IL to Rantoul, IL, he says it's just time to take a little break. "We need to recharge our batteries and start fresh reinventing the World Free Fall Convention for the future. I've always tried to think outside of the box, I'm open to ideas, and look to the skydiving community for ideas as we assess every aspect of our operation. I'm not sure where we will be in 2008, but, it is my desire along with the staff of the WFFC, that we will be back in the grand form in which the convention grew up from in the 90's." Mr. Kirlin noted that the WFFC has been the only boogie ever to provide a Boeing 727 for jumping purposes. Other remarkable jumpships include a Super Constellation, Family Channel Blimp, C-130, and Bell 412 Helicopter. B-17 and B-24 Bombers from World War II were a hit as well. Recently a glider and an AN-2 were featured along with a DC-9. Over 600,000 jumps have been completed during the course of the WFFCs' 17 years. Visitors from every State and over 70 foreign countries have come to jump the variety that only the WFFC has provided. "We have loved every minute of the past 17 years."

Well I have made a few phone calls with no luck. I did however find out that there will be a press release in the next couple of days. What will be released? They would not say? So your guess is as good as mine. This would be a shame, it has been a major part of skydiving history and I was looking forward to assisting in this years event planning. not looking good

That would be a suprise to me, since I was asked with a few others to help out this year. Our goal is to give it a new look with new ideas. One is doing the TeXXas 20 way pink patch. Hey Tom Box of goodies sent from Sun Path. I am really upset that I can not make this event. I really wanted to see some old friends. Plus the last time I jumped there when BBQ was around, well lets just say I couldnt get it in a "to go" box.. LOL Plus I wanted to swoop that DAMN Hanger!! And of course check out my divit. DeWitt I was wondering when those legal issues would be considered? I think you have nailed it and the BoB is a great idea. For whatever it is worth, If you dont mind I would like to put some/all of the above post on a page on the SkyFest website. We have an educational section on the site. SkyFest is just a boogie and the website needs help, but we do cater to alot of young jumpers at our event so I think it would have an impact on them. If you have any suggestions, comments, do's or donts I would love to hear them. I didnt know Danny that well, but I attended Bob's retirement and saw him fequently across the country in the last few years. There is another option. Read the back of the ticket, You pay a fee, dont get another ticket for six months and it is dismissed. Done it many times. Usually cost about 100.00 bucks but no record. No class no courts.

If you are in an area that is high humidity, get a mold inspection. Very important. I know from experience, this was not my house but she was talked out of the mold inspection from the agent. Turns out he was frineds with the sellers and the roof was covered with a blue tarp for 1 year. After she moved in I found black mold. To this day I do not know if I got it all out. And now I will never know due to the situation in our relationship, which is something else I will pm you about. But she will find out when she goes to sell it.If it does not pass, she could be stuck with a condemned house. A house can be a great investment, keep learning about it and take your time. good luck

I was there last October in Negril...no dz. Best of my knowledge there is not. As a matter of fact I only saw one ac it was a pretty beat up single engine, didnt sound good either. Turtle and I have been talking about trying to do a boogie there some time, but would be atleast a year out. Congrats on the wedding. Where ya going? J

I will be holding a SkyFest Training Tour (STT) event at the Farm June 1stto the 3rd. This tour is built for the young jumper in mind just like SkyFest. Call it a mini SF if you will. Scott Miller will be doing canopy control, water training will be available, low time jumper load organizing will be offered as well. No registration!!!!
