  1. I actually had this very same conversation last night. It was in regards to a murder that happened less than 1/2 mile from my current house (happened before I lived here, but I lived about a mile away at the time it happened). The killer was caught with the murder weapon (knife) in his truck. Both he & the knife were covered in the victim's blood. There was an eyewitness (a neighbor heard the victim screaming, responded and was almost run over by the killer). The killer tried very hard (but very stupidly) to claim he was framed. He used every legal avenue, and has had multiple appeals. Still in prison for life (no parole). The person I was arguing with felt he should not have had those legal opportunities (rights). That 'criminals shouldn't have more rights than victims'. My point is that those rights aren't for criminals. They are for the ACCUSED. Who may or may not be actual 'criminals.' And if you don't believe that, look at what the Innocence Project did in Illinois. More convicted criminals on death row were exonerated than were executed. That's why the governor suspended executions in 2000.
  2. I'm going to want to see it in something more reputable than "My Broadband " before taking it seriously.
  3. Nah. The fact that the aliens haven't been in contact with us is probably the strongest piece of evidence that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe. No clue who said it first, but I remember the Calvin & Hobbes cartoon.
  4. "These people" lost by less than 10% of the popular vote.
  5. I'm going to guess that drone is out of rifle range. The zoom on the cameras is pretty good.
  6. Are any of them world record contenders? https://southpark.cc.com/video-clips/1cgdy1/south-park-crap-verification I love the idea of 'government surveillance.' They think they're SOOOOOO important that the government would spend time and money watching them. While ignoring the very simple fact that Google and Apple are doing just that (to gather and sell their information). Or voluntarily supplying what they ate, where they went and how their poops were by posting everything on Facebook (or Twitter or Instagram or...). The antivaxers are worried about a '5G chip' in the vaccine, while ignoring the one in their pocket. The one they put there voluntarily. Of course, the government can get that info when they need it (and can provide valid proof that they do need it). You know, like all the people they arrested for the Jan 6 insurrection attempt. By using the phone tracking record to show exactly where they were.
  7. I don't think Trump has been deposed (is that the right word?) much. I can find a couple, but not many. He's been really good at weaseling out of them. There's also been some accusation that he's contradicted himself in different ones, too. Which would be perjury. He's been fighting this as hard as he has for a reason. He's scared to do it. For good reason. They've got sworn testimony from a few different people that is contradictory. There's a pretty big 'credibility gap' between them. Trump will be asked some specific questions, and he'll have to decide whether to follow up the lies with more lies (perjury) or admit that he ordered his security thugs to 'put people in the hospital' (admit liability). It's really a 'no win' situation for him. Makes me happier than I've been about Trump in a LOOOOOOONG time.
  8. I have zero clue how much R&D went into the modifications for the plane. I would love to know how much testing was done with that 'speed brake', especially spin testing. How many times did they spin the plane with it deployed? Was there any FAA approval for it? I know that there's a process for that sort of modification. The "Supplemental Type Certificate". STCs are needed for most modifications. Simply changing the door and adding a step to make a 182 'jumpable' require one. Was there an STC for that big flap hanging down? I'm simply asking these questions. I have no idea how much (or how little) they tested. I would love to know the answers. As far as a remote activator for the BRS, I sort of doubt it. If it was in place, why wasn't it activated at a high enough altitude for the canopy to fully deploy? Once they knew the jumper wasn't going to make it back in, they should have fired it. From the video, it appeared to be a typical CYPRES fire altitude. Also, you asked a while back about the applicability of the 'required crew'. And where it was specified. Part 23 is the Airworthiness Standards, that define what an airplane must and must not do and have and all that. Advisory Circular AC-23-1523 covers minimum crew. It says that the majority of certified planes are 'single pilot' (that includes the 182) That would make the minimum crew 'one'. I don't think there are any part 23 certified planes that are approved as 'self driving' (flying) or remotely controlled. The 182 isn't, as far as I'm aware of.
  9. We're number ONE!!!!! We're number ONE!!!!!
  10. Not exactly. My understanding (and I could be wrong on this) is that animals that are fed by people become 'food dependent' on those people. They stop finding other sources of food and go to the people. When tourist season ends, the 'people food' ends too. Without other sources of food, the animals then starve. The same thing happens with a backyard bird feeder. The birds become dependent on it as a food supply. If the person moves, or dies, or for whatever reason stops filling the feeder, the birds can starve, especially in times of limited 'other sources' (like winter). There's also the 'feeding animals will make them see people as a food source, so they might get aggressive towards any and all people when they are hungry' rationale. There was one on FB fairly recently that said something to the effect of: "Naturalists advise against feeding moose because the moose will see all people as a food source and attack anyone who doesn't feed them. I think I found my new hobby."
  11. Because of the way the action works. The barrel shifts back and the back of it (firing chamber) goes down just a bit when it's fired (it's called 'delayed blowback' if you care). So it's actually tipped up just a little bit in the front when the slide is back.
  12. No. We aren't 'surrounded by evil'. I don't disagree with the 'you never know when it will come', but to pretend we live in a time and place where it's necessary to be armed and the unarmed are at the mercy of the 'thugs' is just silly. There was a post by BillEisle (sp?) a month or so ago about people leaving their guns in their unlocked cars at night and the guns being stolen. So these people live in a place so dangerous and crime-infested that they feel the need to have a gun in their car at all times, yet leave it unlocked in the driveway at night?
  13. Why just the last couple of pages? There's 51 pages of death and injury. Those are/were people who had families and friends. I understand that it 'hits home' harder when it's someone you actually know (I never met Billy in person, but you know what I mean).
  14. I always understood it as something like: We are finally realizing (waking up to the fact) how much damage that we (the dominant groups) have done to 'them' (the subjugated groups). Obviously, there are a LOT of members of the dominant groups that refuse to recognize this. So they turned 'woke' into a pejorative. I've heard the opinion that they are afraid that if the oppressed minorities gain power, they well threat them as bad as they had previously treated the minorities.
  15. No, silly. It means 'man's law, not God's law'. That makes it ok for 'men of God' to do it. We really need a 'sarcasm' font on here.
  16. Unfortunately, all the pics disappeared when the new format was implemented. Everywhere on the site, not just this thread. Your mom's profile is here: https://www.dropzone.com/profile/88546-skyflower_bloom/ All the posts are under 'activity'. You can read the old threads to understand the context of the conversation.
  17. Given what happened, this is more than just a little bit prophetic.
  18. Jesus fucking Christ. Is that who I think it is? Edit to add: Just saw the post in Blue Skies. Yes, it was Billy.
  19. Riiiiight. Sure it does. The Russian Orthodox hierarchy hates LGBTQ as much, if not more than the US Evangelicals do. So when Putin demonizes them, the RO priests all fall down and worship Putin. Not unlike how the US Evangelicals worshipped Trump. Both completely ignore the sinful behavior and outright evilness those two exhibit. 'Cuz both Putin and Trump hate and hurt the 'right people'.
  20. I don't disagree that USPA is going to keep this person from being a TI pretty much no matter what. But USPA doesn't have 'absolute authority' over the rating. The board, through the Compliance Group, has procedures and rules that they have to follow. You know, that 'due process' thing. They can't just arbitrarily pull someone's license because they want to. The fact that they took the step of pretending the medical was not valid to use as an excuse to pull the license tells me that they know this too. The fact that they are apparently making shit up and doing whatever they feel like bothers me a lot.
  21. That's exactly what USPA DID. See below. They found a potential problem. They told the TI to get proof he wasn't on the med. He did. They said it wasn't enough, to the TI went to the AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) and got documentation that the medical was good. That STILL wasn't enough. As a side note, I have no issues with what USPA did up to here. They found a potential issue and investigated it. However, USPA decided, for whatever reason, that documentation from the TI's physician AND the FAA AME wasn't enough. That's the part I have a problem with.
  22. If the original post is accurate, the FAA investigated the claim, found it to be groundless and said the medical certificate was still valid. Regardless of what USPA "knows" about the requirements for the medical, THEY DID NOT ISSUE IT!! They simply require a TI to have one. The TI in question does, in fact, possess a valid FAA medical certificate. They have overstepped their authority by a huge amount when they decided that they have more authority than the FAA and that the medical cert that the FAA declared 'valid' after investigating these claims is, in fact, no longer valid. If they want to revoke the TI's license, fine. They have a procedure in place, and there are legitimate reasons for them to revoke a TI's license (maybe not in this case, but I don't know all the details).
  23. No. Responsibility is for other people.
  24. The guy was a white supremacist. He targeted and murdered black people. That's not a trait of the 'lefties'. "Self identification" isn't 'gospel'. Its an expression of behavior. If a biological male wishes to 'self identify' as a female, fine. If a biological male wishes to pretend to 'self identify' as a female in order to access female-only areas and commit sexual assaults, that' NOT fine. In any case, that 'self identification' only takes a person so far. Before any serious gender reassignment action can take place, the person needs to be examined and evaluated by professionals to ensure that person is really experiencing gender dysphoria.
