Yeah, but if anything about guns has to be here, then anything about politicians should be too. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Most of us realize that corporate jets facilitate efficient travel for high talent individuals, and we don't envy the high roller image. Although subject to abuse, the freedom from the "efficient" routes and "reliable" schedules of the airlines are advantageous for a lot more than just "high talent" individuals. My father was a research chemist and he flew a chartered plane from Wisconsin over to Lower Michigan several times. Consider the time involved flying to Chicago, then Detroit, then the destination (taking an entire day) then 5 or six hours of actual business, then another day for the return trip. Or you spend 90 minutes in a light twin (Beech Baron) flying directly across Lake Michigan. Which is really cheaper? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." No, powerless isn't "do it for me" as much as it is "I am not in control". It is the powerlessness to stop once they have started. And most alcoholics in recovery will freely admit not having power over alcohol. They have simply found a way not to take that first drink. And anyone who walks into AA is told early on that this is something they have to do for themselves. The others can offer help, support and advice, but nobody can do it for them. I would not stay with a DZ that "minded" something like that. Obviously you need to stay in a safe area, not interfere with the students and all that, but how they treat newcomers is often how they treat students. The overall attitude of the DZ is usually not that hard to tell if you hang out for a while. Most DZs are friendly places, you might have a little convincing to do to get them to realize you are serious, but if you say "I want to do AFF, but I want to hang around a while to get the vibe of the place first. Where's the fridge to put the beer?" You really shouldn't have any problems. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Yes it sucks when the instructors don't seem to care about properly logging your jumps so that you can get your license. Some instructors are just more organized than others. If you can't get your old instructors to sort everything out, you could probably get it all taken care of in a few jumps. Go to a well organized DZ and explain the situation. If you have the skills, you should be able to complete several "check-offs" on each jump. It shouldn't take that many jumps to get all the requirements demonstrated. You absolutely should not have to start over. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Sorry, but to me, this is a cop out. Admit you have a problem and need help, but don't ever think you're powerless. No one is truly powerless unless they give up. The powerlessness is real. A real alcoholic (and that definition is a whole other discussion) has no control once they start drinking. Once they have reached that point, taking that first drink is like pulling the handle on a slot machine. It might be good, but the odds are against it. The best intentions in the world won't matter. Committments, responsibilities, penalties, from family, job, the legal system or anywhere else won't matter. Once the drinking stars, the odds are it won't stop. This doesn't mean that someone who goes out intending to get good and ripped and have a good time is an alcoholic. Or even someone who planned on having one or two and ended up staying longer than planned is one. This is about the person who time and time again says "only one or two" and doesn't stop. The person who swears to themself that it will only be one or two, and wakes up the next morning not understanding how it happened. If you haven't seen it or been there, it's hard to understand. But it's very real. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

And given the availability of adequate sized gear for new jumpers, more options is a good thing, IMO. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

You may well be right. When you mix alcohol and Valium anything can happen. And he could have honestly not remembered. I wonder what her defense was?? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Thanks for those sites. Fixed the clickies. Unfortunately you are right about the arguments. And too many (though not all) of the AAs turn people off by pushing "God". I'm not an expert, but I've always understood that an M-16 is select-fire (full auto capable), while the AR-15 is semi only. There was an early AR that developed into the M-16. I don't remember the model (AR-180 comes to mind). History Channel has a really good "Tales of the Gun" episode that covers the M-16. Full auto is legal to own, under very strictly controlled, loads of paperwork, extremely expensive rules (NFA 1934). I know a couple guys that have a few full auto toys. They brought them down to the range I shoot at until local political pressure was brought to bear - no more full auto, belt fed or tripod mounted anymore And the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Unless it's been answered a million times already. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Just out of curiosity, how are they preying? They are a group of people who have found a way to stop drinking, and offer it to anyone who wants it. No dues are required, a basket is passed. No attendance is taken, no tests are given. You don't even have to stop drinking. The only reqirement for membership is the desire to stop. They offer a solution, and have success- to the point that drug addicts, sex addicts, food addicts and gambling addicts use the same basic program. That's bad info. The auto sear is the documented part. There are plenty of ARs out there with M16 bolt/bolt carrier groups. Ok, I googled it and found: This. While not strictly illegal, it's a bad idea. And the BATF has a history of not really caring about little technicalities like whether a gun is really legal or not. Professional interest? Althoiugh, I would bet you are pretty good at not leaving marks. Or causing permanent damage. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Where do you find morons like these who send out free naked pics of themselves? Apparently these people didn't get the memo that if you're interested in someone, HAVE A FUCKING CONVERSATION WITH THEM! If they're interested in you they'll take their own pic of you with their own camera phone!

And atheism is not spiritual. If you want to play both sides of the field, there are the agnostic and/or pantheism genres. I'm sure people that believe in mysticism of some sort can mold their beliefs enough to fit within the framework of AA. But Atheists? It sounds to me like AA is trying to push God in some form, shape or function. Yes and no. The short version of the first 3 steps is: 1- I can't 2- He can 3- I'll let him. The alcoholic is someone unable to control their drinking. Accepting that lack of ability to control and surrendering it(first step) then requires that the control be given to someone or something else. (third step) In betwen is deciding who/what that power is. For most people, that is a god of some sort. But not everyone. Many people use the group as a higher power- This is a large group of people who have the ability to stay sober. Others use the sun (has the power to keep all life on earth going). It ultimately is an individual choice. Unfortunately, some groups forget that and insist that the god of their choosing must be the best one, and push it on all. If I am ever kidnapped, and you are negotiating, don't take the first offer. Two weeks with me and they will pay anything to return me. Yeah, but when you learned how to skydive you didn't have an instructor sitting right next to you, able to grab the controls (and elbow you in the ribs to get you to let go) if something went wrong . Seriously, it comes in time. You get the feel for the controls pretty quick. The precise touch you need for landing takes a little longer, but your experience flaring a canopy will help a lot. All the pedals do in the air is keep you flying true (coordinated), they don't really turn you. Steering with them on the ground (and not touching the yoke at all), now that takes some practice. Edit to add: You don't actually land when you practice engine failures, you pick a good spot that you could use, set up for it and make the approach. At about 500 ft or so the instructor adds power back and away you go (and the engine is just pulled back to idle, it is never really shut off). Come on, the hypocrites are always right and the rest of us are blind or wrong. Can't you see that? That is exactly the reason that small donations are not tracked. I understand your concern, but I'm far more concerned about companies being able to hide their prejudicial political influence through anonymous donations like members of the KKK hiding behind white hoods. I've got to agree with this. There are several "hot button" issues that I have strong opinions on, and when large companies make significant donations, I want to know about it so that I can conduct my business accordingly. If these companies want to take these stands, fine. But if they choose to take a political stand, I will take that into account when I decide to do business with them (or not). There's a lot more to it than that. The ATF requires manufaturers to make the semi-auto versions as hard to convert as possible. For an AR-15/M-16 the trigger, hammer, safety and bolt-carrier are different. And the lower receiver has a lot of material that prevents an auto sear from being installed. It can be done, but it's a good bit of work. AND it's a major risk. As was pointed out, possesion of an AR and any M-16 full auto part is considered possesion of an illegal full auto. Long prison sentence, big fines, and don't forget that the ATF doesn't practice a whole lot of restraint in these kind of cases. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
