CNN.com The story has been updated since I first saw it, but the original version said the plane "self-reported" both electrical and pressure problems. The plane had GE engines. Yeah, but Air France doesn't have John Aaron as a flight controller (EECOM actually). And how many other NASA geeks are here to understand that one? This looks real bad. Extreme turbulence in the storm, electrical problems, and the plane is fly-by-wire. It probably wasn't a lightning strike, the planes are protected against that, "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." New Student...please help
wolfriverjoe replied to RedSox0989's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first guess would be a bad tooth. Possibly a tiny space near the nerve. The air escapes easily, then then the pressure pushes part of the tooth against the nerve. Instant pain. I have never experienced anything like this, and my teeth aren't in the best shape. But pressure changes can have some pretty unusual (and unpleasant) effects. My inner ears "empty out" fairly easily on the way up, but it can take hours for them to fully "fill up" again after I'm done jumping. Oh, yeah! It's been a long time since I've seen it, but it was good. "AK-47; When you absolutely, positively need to kill every MF'er in the room!" "Where'd you park the car? Is it over there? Or over there? Or maybe over there? Or..." BANG. Very typical of Tarentino. Very wrong, but funny as all hell. The ending was really cool too. I'm seriously scared of heights. In the plane, it isn't height anymore, it's altitude. However, a friend refused to look down when the door was opened until about his 10th jump or so. Someone once told me that it's usually more a fear of edges than height. A couple years ago I helped put a new roof on a friend's house. getting off the ladder onto the roof was bad, Getting off the roof onto the ladder was worse (because I had to look down). As you can probably guess, everyone was highly amused that I have no problem jumping from airplanes, but I'm scared silly climbing off a roof. One more possibility... She was honest and open about what occupies her free time, and he accused her of lying to push him away. When someting like that happens to me that sort of shit usually runs around in circles in my head until I can dump it out somewhere, usually to a friend who is willing to listen without judging. I think we here qualify as a decent sounding board. The outright rejection of the sport as too crazy probably indicates there's no real chance of anything worthwhile growing here, but his "parting shot" was pretty uncool, IMO. Good morning to all. It is great to be home, drinking my own coffee. First time in 10 days, and the second time this month (only been home 1 night since April 25th). Now I have to get caught up on all the stuff (mowing lawn, washing car, planting garden laundry, ect., ect., ect.) that needs to be done. Gonna be a busy week. Bad example. They barely made it into planes. Perfect example, they all sat around, held hands, hugged, got drunk, some people probably swapped body fluids . . . then they all split and went back to their homes across the country. In doing so, a lot of them passed a couple of airports; the ones in TX and the ones at their homes. Each time they could spread it further. And in going home, they spent time in close quarters with the other people on the plane... The other people then travelled on other planes to other airports... WHO said several days ago that containment was no longer possible. They knew what they were talking about. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Any of Quentin Tarentino's films (including the ones he didn't direct) Watch the director's comments and the "Making of" segments to understand a little about Tarentino. He's an amazing film buff. Resivoir Dogs Pulp Fiction Jackie Brown Kill Bill 1&2 True Romance From Dusk til Dawn (there's another one I can't remember) Any of Mel Brooks films Silent Movie Young Frankenstein Blazing Saddles The Producers There are others I can't remember- the only one I don't like is Spaceballls The Gene Wilder/Richard Pryor comedies Silver Streak Stir Crazy See No Evil Hear No Evil Most of the Kevin Smith films Clerks (1&2) Mallrats Chasing Amy Dogma (make sure you can laugh at Christianity if you watch it) Any Sergio Leone "Spagetti Western" Not going to list them all. That's a short list off the top of my head. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Is the media overreacting? Duh - of course. That's what they do. With everything. Blaming all the deaths in Mexico on Swine flu, repeating the same few facts over and over again, over-reporting the stupid overreactions of people (not eating pork, not going out in public and on and on) That means that there are going to be a lot of people out there overreacting (again, Duh) The reaction of Russia barring imports of pork is ridiculous. I don't think the CDC, WHO or the US or Mexican governments are overreacting, I think they are taking reasonable precautions, and working their asses off in figuring out what's happening. I also doubt that there is a hell of a lot anybody can do about it. That's why the basic sanitation rules are the only real advice out there. Anyone with Triathlon 7cell 190-210ish?
wolfriverjoe replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Gear and Rigging
What's that all about? Wow, did this take off. I should learn that obscure jokes should stay in the bonfire. The "count to 3" reference was for flaking out the cells. Not the lines. I grab all the lines with similar height knots (that gives me line groups). Then I count out the cells as I flake. A 9-cell has 4 flakes, a 7-cell has 3. Yes, I'm anal enough to flake and smooth each cell individually. I know others just smooth out the entire group of cells together, but I choose to be a bit more thorough. Switching back and forth between my 7-cell and other's 9-cells means I have to remember to count cells to 3 or 4 depending. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." This is one way that skydiving has truly impacted my life. I know perfectly well that leaving the plane could be the last thing I do. There are no guarantees that I'm going to be alive after I land. There's no guarantee I (or anyone else) will survive the commute home tonight, and I recognize that too. I don't obsess about it, but I see how fleeting life can be, and how sudden death can be. Most people don't see these things until it's too late. Because of this, those I love know it, because I tell them on a regular basis. So it's kind of like the philosophy of Billy Jack (anybody else remember this?) If I'm going to do something, I ask - Is this something I would regret not doing if I died tomorrow? If so, I do it. Is this something I want to be the last thing I do on this earth? If not, not. And as a serious answer to your question, I'd find out how fast my Porsche can go on the way up to base off the Macinack Bridge "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Anyone with Triathlon 7cell 190-210ish?
wolfriverjoe replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have about 150 jumps on my tri 190. It was my first canopy after student gear, so I really can't compare a whole lot. As far as I'm concerned, it opens nice, flies nice and lands nice. Loading it at 1:1 it still can crank spirals fairly hard, and (high altitude) front riser turns and dives are fun. I have yet to get myself into trouble with it, and I've landed off a couple times with no problems. It doesn't seem to pack much differently than a nine-cell (except you only count to 3). I'm quite happy with it, although I will probably be downsizing in the not-to-distant future. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." #1 Fill in your profile. You want to know who I am, I want to know who you are. #2 Use a real web addy. Tinyurl is a real useful site to hide who you are. BTW the tiny addy you listed doen't work. #3 SEARCH. Do a little research on this site and you'll find answers to most of what you want to know. Kids sports and coaching- Political correctness be dammed!

Absolutely. No Argument. The PC idiots should have a sense of humor , some common sense, and just a smidge of a sense of proportion surgically implanted in them. But until they do, the rest of us have to deal with them. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." While I truly admire someone who refuses all the politically correct,"touchy-feely" everyone's a winner and gets a trophy garbage, I also hate the "win at all costs" bully. And I seriously question the intelligence and judgement of someone who would send something like this. Yes, its a joke, but if he didn't realize that there would be serious backlash over it, he really doesn't belong in a position of authority. At least he was willing to put the team, league and especially the kids first, and stepped back to avoid a major blow-up. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Precisely! Clearly mentally ill, so they tape his mouth shut. Then throw him in jail. I have heard the LA county sherriff say that the jail there is the largest mental institution in the country. I know there have been cases where the accused was repeatedly disruptive, and the judge simply put him in a seperate room with a video conferencing setup. I don't know how feasable that would be for a simple probation hearing, but I think this was highly inappropriate. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Ask that question in England or Australia. First it was the "scary" guns, then it was the less scary, then it was all the guns. Bollox, I belong to a Gun club in London and know many people who have revolvers & rifles that they keep at home and shoot often. Ok, I don't live there. I was under the impression that pistols and semi-auto rifles were prohibited, and that other firearms were highly restricted.
