The above is a pretty good statement of how I feel, too. In this particular case (Lee's murder), yes. But overall, no. So I voted no. I only have to look at Illinois. More innocent inmates were released from death row than were executed in recent years there. It's one of the reasons that then-Gov Ryan commuted all of the death sentences in 03. The wrongfullly convicted weren't freed on appeal, nor by remorseful proscutors or cops who realized thay had convicted the wrong person. They were freed by the Innocence Project. As tbrown pointed out, cops who need to produce a suspect, prosecutors who need to produce a conviction and communities that need closure on a horrific crime can easily find a scapegoat. And they will rarely admit that they convicted the wrong person, or used faulty evidence. They often fight tooth and nail to execute a person who is clearly not guilty. So even though there are many high profile cases that probably deserve the death penalty (Dahmer, Lee Boyd Malvo, Richard Ramirez and on and on), the system is too flawed for me to support it at all. Two things that occurred to me as I took that walk down memory lane: 1 -- Ethnicity didn't matter. Anyone could be a disco star. 2 -- Guys still liked to go out to dance, AND knew how to dance with a partner. So yeah, there are worse things that could be revived! Jerry Garcia (I think it was him anyway) once defined disco as "music with a beat so obvious that even white guys could dance to it". It wasn't that we really knew how to dance, or liked it, it was that we were actually able to. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." How hard can it be to simply put a bunch of jumpers out of a plane and form one point (a round)? At Summerfest last year and this year, Rob promisied beer for all involved if everyone gets in. You say goodbye. You at least have the opportunity to do so. You fulfill the responsibility you took on when you adopted him. By giving him a peaceful and realatively painless end to what sounds like a truly wonderful life. And then you mourn him. Cry long and hard. There's no shame in it. Never forget him, always remember the love you two had (yes, dogs love us back IMO). Give yourself a bit of time and then go back to the shelter. There's probably a very different dog who needs you just as much. That's the best way to honor Fezzik. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." So then I can assume that this is how most of the "Gun Nuts" feel when you boil it down? I don't really know. I can't speak for "most" of them. There are a lot out there (something like 49% of the people in the US) and to say that most of them feel one way or another is a bit of a reach. And boiling it down to one simple statement is not really practical either. There's the right to self defense, the personal responibility/accountability argument, the relying on someone/something that isn't required to/isn't able to help, the blaming inantimate objects for the actions of those that wield them and on and on. It's a very complex argument. It isn't made any less so when both sides (IMO the anti-gun crowd more that the pro gun by a wide margin) bend facts, use half truths and even outright lies to support their cases. But, to answer your question - Yes. Most gun nuts that I know (along with the saner "firearms enthusiasts", "competitive shooters" and "hunters") will often make a statement along the lines of "We don't ban cars because some people kill other people with them, whether because they were drunk, angry, distracted or just plain stupid. We punish the drivers." Edit to add: You made more posts while I was composing my answer. Your post 12 taking the argument so far as comparing Muslims to Military style semi-auto rifles (they aren't "Assault Rifles") is pretty good. And not everyone who wants to maintain the right of self-defense wants to infringe on the rights of anyone to peacefully practice their religion. But it is odd how many (on both sides of the political spectrum) pick and choose which rights they want to support. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Nooooooo!!!!!! For any religion we like we must make the above statement. For any religion we dislike we must make sure to equate any extremist behavior to the entire population of that religion. So because most in the US are Christian (or a subset of) the abortion clinic bombers/dotor killers are extemists well outside the bounds of the normal practitioners. But ALL Muslims are wife-beheading, America-hating fanatics who are willing to strap on a bomb vest at the drop of a hat to get their 72 virgins. Well, there are groups that call themselves "Mormons" that still practice polygamy. They are not recognized by the "official" LDS church. They also seem ok with pedophelia and incest (1st cousins anyway). There are extremists in most religions. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Yep. They've had salmonella warnings on eggs for quite a few years now. Same thing for yardbird (chicken). You don't cross-contaminate any dishes or utensils, and wash your hands properly after handling any raw meat or eggs. When some actually shows up, everyone goes completely bananas. Yes, that's the short version of the argument. Although it's more of the argument against gun control than the argument for gun rights. It's the "Don't punish me for the actions of others" argument. And there are lots of side arguments and tangents. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

More than you might think. But some of the specialities are only apparent when your skill improves. Booties give you lots of forward drive capability, but are a huge disadvantage freeflying. Freefly suits give you the ability to fly in any orientation, but lack the subtle refinements for maximum performance doing RW. The freefly pants are mainly convenient. Different fabrics give different fall rates. Heavier guys can go slower, or lighter can go faster, depending on the drag from the fabric. For early jumps, a basic student suit will do. Most jumpers end up with a variety of suits for different occasions. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." It's been a topic on here for I would say about the last 8 years or so. I'm sure it will still be discussed for years to come as long as Skyride is still doing business as they want, ethics and fair practices be damned. There are two huge threads with hundreds or thousands of posts that were subsequently locked because of online bickering between critics and supporters, but you can still look through them. Just search for: What Can We Do About Skyride? and What Can We Do About Skyride? II Those are the 2 biggest, but there are a whole bunch of others, too. Some are locked, some aren't. Nashville area signs, City of Nashville (the one about the stickers) Skydive Arizona vs Quatorcci are the first that come to mind, but there are a lot of them. dudeist skydivers association

I think it rhymes with "nudist". I dunno. I agree with that. The main root is Dude (Dood). The practice is Dudeism (Dood-ism) The practicioners are Dudeists (Dood-ists) Just like nude, nudiism and nudists. (although they eliminate the "e"). At least that's how I see it. I could be wrong. Mine has a 150# pull (recurve, not compoud). I figure that since cocking it makes my back creak, it has a decent amount of "oomph", and only use it at appropriate places. Stephen Wright came up with the name "Stay". I've always liked it for a name. You then mess with everyone by teaching to follow commands that aren't even close (the dog won't know the difference). For example, use the command "sit" for roll over, "lay down" for sit up and beg, stuff like that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." question about US citizen in N Korea / secret team ?
wolfriverjoe replied to loumeinhart's topic in Speakers Corner
The team would be a bunch of diplomats and bureacrats (sp?) to try and negotiate the release. The "secret" part is that nobody but the two governments involved knew about it to prevent any media coverage (and resulting pronouncements from misguided idiots) that would quite probably destroy any chances for success. They would be a diplomatic mission from the US, just like Clinton was. They would be safe, as long as they didn't do anything stupid, like break the laws there or try to spy. Eh, he would probably claim that its emotionally scaring or some hippy bullshit... Mentally traumatizing too. He'd make up some crap about PTSD or something. Speeding can be done safely on a public road
wolfriverjoe replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
Passenger side on was what saved him likely. Head on or drivers side on and I doubt he'd have survived. That and the fact that the car disintegrated. There must have been an incredible amount of energy absorbed by the car being broken into 3 seperate pieces. Indy cars do the same thing when they crash (but in those cars it's on purpose). Speeding can be done safely on a public road
wolfriverjoe replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
I was being sarcastic, I think 99% of the readers thus far realize that. No matter how much cars improve, the drivers have all stayed the same. Hence this video. I'm going to disagree that the drivers stay the same. Phones, GPSs, Ipods, all that sort of crap have, IMO, caused drivers to be far more distracted than they ever used to be. And moderate speeding (10 or so over) can be and is done in reasonable safety. I always believed that the "powers-that-be" deliberately set the speed limits 10 mph or so below the safe maximum, knowing full well that many drivers would exceed it. Stolen Valor Act struck down as unconsitutional
wolfriverjoe replied to 377's topic in Speakers Corner
As long as any fraud (VA benefits, commmunity donations, free food on Veteran's Day) committed by these lowlifes is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, I agree. It isn't illegal to lie. I really like the groups that expose these pretenders, and I understand that quite a few of the Special Ops types (especially SEALs) take it as a personal insult when someone falsely claims to be one of them. Hint: Don't insult a SEAL, it can be pretty painful. I've run across a few falsely claiming Special Ops experience (there are some really easy questions that will expose them) and most are pretty pathetic. The real ones don't go around telling everyone how badass they are, they don't have to prove anything to anybody. They've already proven it to themselves and their teammates, and nobody else really matters. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
