Russian legislators approve troop deployment in Ukraine
wolfriverjoe replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think there is a difference between the two. The Russians don't care. But okay. What's the President going to do to respond? Probably about the same as with Syria. Remember his "Red Line" or whatever empty threat he made? It's funny how many people are implying that the Ukrainians are fascists/Nazis because they sided with Germany against the Russians. So did the Norwegians. Russia has done a lot of "not nice" things to it's neighbors over the years. This whole thing happened because the general population wanted to be closer to the EU, but the president wanted closer association to (and a promised bailout from) Russia. Well, from the general phrasing of the OP, it sounded more like a miniature buckle that looked like a real seat belt buckle. If so, I know exactly what he meant, because I've seen one on a dog collar. About the same size webbing as our chest harnesses. Not the full 2" wide one for car or airplane belts. I agree that real buckles are probably strong/reliable enough to be used (barring other objections), but these aren't those, they are replicas. Are they well made enough for our needs? Or are they like the "Not to be used for climbing" carbiners you see in the convenience stores? I think the hardware could easily meet the standards, but proving it could get complicated (expensive). You are a little bit confused. There are a couple of different Tri models. Normal, CRW and Hybrid (can be used as a normal or a CRW canopy). Big difference is the way the lines are set up, IIRC. I have a bunch of jumps on a normal 190 Tri, loaded at 1:1. I had good experience with it and liked it a lot. It's considered a "good all around" canopy, which means it does a lot of stuff, without doing any thing in particular very well. It was, for me, a good first canopy. Not too aggressive, but I could crank in a pretty good front riser turn if I leaned on it. I never tried to swoop it, and it probably wouldn't have been too good for that. It seemed to have a fairly short recovery arc. By that, I mean that it would come out of an induced dive fairly quickly. The glide was reasonably good, but I really can't compare it to a whole lot of other canopies. The flare is reportedly a bit less powerful than other canopies, but I never had a problem landing it. I've heard it said that "If you can flare and land a Tri well, then you can land anything." It was an easy to handle, forgiving canopy in my experience. I did a couple of stupid things down low with it, and it let me get away with them - One low turn had me pointed at the ground a lot steeper than I should have been, but yanking down the other side (flaring while in the turn) got me out of it. It was dumb and I don't recommend doing it. But I got away with it that one time (I learned my lesson and didn't do that again). To make it clear: This is only one person's experience, with one particular Tri. But I liked mine and was very happy with it. Usual disclaimers: Not an expert, didn't even sleep in a Holiday Inn last night. Consult your own instructors before making any decisions. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while under a Triathlon. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Does having a gun in the home make you safer?
wolfriverjoe replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I'll bet you'd rate yourself as above average in critical reading comprehension. Meh. We've seen that so-called study before. What it says is that shooting victims are more likely to be armed than not. It in no way addresses people who didn't get shot. A bad analogy would be to say that because people not wearing seatbelts are more likely to be killed if they are in an accident, that not wearing a seatbelt increases your chance of being in an accident. The explanation being given on the news that I heard is that the "dead" guy's pacemaker malfunctioned, so his heart stopped. But then it fired up and restarted the heart after the coroner pronounced him dead and bagged him. I'm gonna go with "screwed up" too. Wow, your snowmobile has a Reverse gear? Kewl! What make and model is it? I want one. Lots of them have it. A quick search found Polaris, Arctic Cat and Yamaha parts. http://www.wesnowmobile.com/Types-Of-Snowmobiles.aspx In any case, it looked like a steep dropoff to the right and deep powder in the woods to the left. I'm not sure turning around was an option. Besides, at the end, someone comes up behind him on another sled. He might have been boxed in. I'm not going to say I like the action, but there are a lot of factors we just don't know about. To many for me to judge whether the action was appropriate or not. Others will undoubtedly have different opinions. Edit to add: Some places, getting caught with a carcass and no tag/license is a BIG poaching fine. I agree that it was wasteful, but I don't blame the guy for not wanting to get caught with an untagged moose. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 36. High end of "average" risk. It looks like it's weighted pretty heavily on currency and training. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Well, there is a certain amount of truth there, but the Christians are going after any and every Muslim. Not just the ones who committed or supported atrocities. Most of the Muslim militia members who actually created and executed the coup and then committed the atrocities left town a long time ago. You have to admit that the video of the guy taking a bite out of the dismembered leg is taking "retribution" a bit far. This is a link to a BBC story about the incident. I'm not going to post a link to the video of the guy eating the leg. You can find that yourself if you wish. It's going to be at or near the top of any Google search. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-25708024 "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Got your asbestos longies on? The first few thoughts that come to mind (in no particular order): Is the buckle TSO'd? Can it meet TSO standards? What would it take (a big pile of money)? How strong is it? What are it's failure modes? - Will it fail to lock or unlock? What happens when it wears? How easy is it to accidentally release? I'm sure I will think of more, but that is what comes to mind. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." This is so sad to hear. It's never easy to say goodbye to a furry friend, but at such a young age, it's even worse. It sounds like you are putting his needs first, as it should be. It's harder for you, but the right thing to do. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is a "house call" vet. I don't know if you have one near you, but when I had to put my dog down a year and a half ago, I knew I didn't want to take him to the vet's office for it. He absolutely hated that place, and I didn't want his last few minutes to be spent in that kind of terror. We have a vet in the area that makes house calls. It wasn't cheap, but money really didn't matter at that point. He came to the house, hit him with a heavy sedative and waited until he was out to put the final shot in. It was in my arms, on his couch, in the house he knew and was comfortable in. It was hard as hell to do, but I knew it was the right thing. My heart goes out to you. Someone came back last spring and asked the same question. My response was (and still is): BV's Sick and Twisted thread is still on page one. Nataly is stiill being cyber-stalked by Ryoder, me and a few others. DB Cooper is both still missing and over 40K posts. JohnMitchell is still a nice Guy, 'Twardo is still old. Some folks have died, some others almost did. Some new guys learned, some have yet to. Some will learn the hard way. Not much has changed. I would add: BillVon is still really smart and Skymamma is still really sweet. But don't try to pull any crap on either of them. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Ok, I'll bite. What changes in materials have taken place? What changes in manufacturing technique have taken place? What changes in risers to prevent hard cutaways have taken place? (or when were hard housings in the risers first installed?) You make it sound like there has been a significant change in rig design in the past few years (yeah, 14 is "few"). Outside of a few Service Bulletin updates, and a few "nifty" things (mag riser covers and stowless for mains), what major changes have taken place? I don't see anywhere that it's limited to just one word. B.O.B. was posted before, and it's an acronym for 3 words. Difference between jumping now and then
wolfriverjoe replied to potatoman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No clue. I have no desire to try and fly a board, either in the sky or in a tunnel. I had never heard of lack of access to tunnels being any sort of factor in their demise. But then again, they were mostly dead well before tunnels became readily available. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
