Perfect example. You can bet that nowadays each and every one of those tens of millions of trucks if they are fleet owned are connected by GPS and an integrated data network to company HQ monitoring their investment. No lives involved only cargo, same applies to commercial shipping. Modern aircraft? .... oh there is a switch in the cabin which can be turned on and off. ok perfect! Trucks? Yes. Qualcomm is pretty common. Not in every truck, but in most. But not in the trailers. Some have them, particularly refrigerated trailers. But most dry vans or containers are still unmonitered. And you still haven't answered how many plane crashes this would have helped with. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Why? Really, why should this be required? How many planes in the last 5, 10 or 20 years would this have helped? And how much would it cost to equip every airliner? A few years ago, there was a lunatic who drove a semi-truck into a State Capitol building. (Utah?) It was at the end of a chase where the cops were pretty much powerless to stop something that big. There was a ridiculous suggestion that each and every truck be equipped with a "brake button" on the back bumper, so that a cop could ram the back of the truck and dump the air out of the parking brake system. The parking brakes are held off by air pressure. Lose air and the brakes lock up. The cost would have been a couple of hundred dollars per trailer. There are tens of millions of semi trailers out there. All would have been required to be equipped. For something that happens once a decade or so. This idea had a rather surprising level of support. Lots of people thought it would be a good idea. Until they were asked who was going to pay for it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." That's because he was a scary catholic in a land of protestants. Be that as it may, back then people were concerned about religion influencing Presidential decisions. Now, there is a faction of America which fully expects and looks forward to it... As long as it's "Christian." Well, back then they were more worried about the Pope influencing the President than religion (in general) affecting decisions. Since all Catholics are supposed to obey the Pope, people were afraid that Kennedy would be obligated to follow whatever the Pope told him to do. Back then we had prayers in school, abortion was prohibited, pornography was prohibited, "Sunday Laws" were very common and on and on. Religion (in general, and almost exclusively Christian of some type) was very influential. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." The biggest one you can buy. You could go with a 176 PD Optimum. Recommended weight for a novice is 180 lb. Sparky Keep in mind that those weights are exit weights. That is how much you weigh with all your gear on. It isn't "Stepping out of the shower weight", which I'm going to guess the 150 you mentioned is. Yes. We've had this discussion before. The physics of it are pretty basic. But the actual sensations and perceptions are different than the physics would dictate. Most jumpers don't feel the "stomach drop" like on a roller coaster, unless they are going out of a balloon or helicopter. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Feeling "Zero G" is when you are accelerating at the same speed gravity is pulling you down. When you jump from a balloon or helicopter, the initial part of the jump is with little or no forward speed, so there isn't any air resistance acting on your body. So you accelerate at nearly the same as gravity. If you jump from a moving plane, you are already moving at or near terminal (depends on the plane). The horizontal deceleration occurs simultaneously with the vertical acceleration. And your body doesn't feel like it's at zero g at any time. Have you made a jump yet? I don't think I'd call 51% twice "overwhelming support." But hey, GWB thought 2% was a mandate. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

I once described 'Twardo as "An old, old school skydiver. Lights himself on fire in midair for a living. If he hasn't done it, it hasn't been done. Has all the good stories in the "Scary Stories" thread." Go to the "History & Trivia" forum. Find the thread titled "Scary Stories From the Old Day." All will become clear. While you're there, take a look at the DB Cooper thread. It's an interesting read. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Nat is dating a scooter guy??? An appropriate & practical one no less... I think appropriate and practical is sexy and wonderful traits to have in a boyfriend. Appropriate and practical are fine traits in a man. But if your boyfriend rides a scooter, you have a girlfriend. Someone had to say it. All the guys were thinking it. Not that any of us mind that image, of course. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -

Someone said something to my kid I didn't like. Wah. Let's file a lawsuit. Wasted teachable moment for the child that they will have to deal with morons throughout their life, and ways to handle them. Did you read the story? Are you aware of the steps the parents took before they filed suit? And the response they got? People in the south complain about being pigeonholed as intolerant, bible thumping bigots. Then you have stuff like this that reinforces the stereotype. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." NS? WTF? Very few Canuckleheads would have a problem if you just went for the bigger prize and invaded and annexed Quebec. We could never successfully invade Quebec. Quote: "Scott was 6-foot-3 inches tall and kneeling down when she killed herself, sources said. “You lean away from the door applying pressure till you pass out,” one source said. “After that, gravity takes over." The doorknob was L-shaped." I read she used a scarf. That technique is far more a "strangulation" than an actual "hanging", although it is considered hanging. You have to really want it to do it that way. You have lots of time as you pass out to change your mind. Some have been found having tied their own hands behind their back to keep them from backing out. Some of those were found to have changed their minds and tried to untie their hands, unsuccessfully. She probably used a scarf because a thin rope would have left marks. Women tend to choose ways that leave little or no marks. They don't want to look bad when they are found. Her calling the assistant looks like she wanted to be found before she started to decay. All pretty typical for suicides. All very, very sad. Your grasp of American History is a little off. The BoR was not an "afterthought." The whole Constitution was adopted "15 years after the new country was born." The BoR was part of it because the only way a strong central government was going to be approved was if there were guarantees for the rights of the citizens to be in place. And the situation in the link in the OP seems to indicate that the "need" for the 2nd is still very real. And you seem to be deliberately ignoring the basic fact that in the past 20 years there has been a huge increase in the number of guns in the hands of the American public, millions of carry permits issued, yet crime has gone down. So from a "per gun" perspective, rates of accidents and homicides have dropped pretty dramatically. "More guns, less crime" has been noted by the pro-gun folks, but pretty much ignored by those who oppose them. Of course, the author of "More Guns Less Crime" was shown to have fabricated data, lied, and masqueraded as a woman ("Mary Rosh") in order to give himself a good review. Probably why honest analysts have pretty much ignored it. I wasn't referring to the actual study, Professor. I was talking about the fact that there have been millions of carry permits issued and tens of millions of guns sold in the past 20 years, yet crime has gone down.
