  1. Right. To get outside of what you know or are willing to learn. You need objectivity and open mindedness. To break past what you know, or more importantly, think you know, you have to be willing to admit that you don't know everything and that what you do know is wrong. That open mindedness (along with willingness) is the key to expanding knowledge. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 2. I was hoping you would share a first person specific method in both definition and application. It's actually pretty simple. The "box" you are in is construced of your convictions, prejudices and beliefs. Most of which are wrong. So you question everything. And actually listen to the answers. Wonko the Sane had the right idea. Act like a child and assume nothing. I love it when a kid asks "Why?" It means they want to know. It's better when they actually listen to the answer (some zone out after the first sentence and just ask "Why?" again). Most religious folks can't do this. They have been taught for far too long that the Bible is factually correct and that the priests are always right. Racially prejudiced people can't either. They have believed far too long and far too deeply that "Those People" are inferior. For either of those groups to reject their long and deeply held beliefs to seek the actual truth is difficult if not impossible. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 3. Duh. It's the Illuminati. They control all the governments. There was probably someone on the plane who had information that was going to "break the story wide open" and THEY got rid of him (or her). We really need a sarcasm font. 4. isn't the way to convince him. To Kirkk0herra, there are a variety of reasons, such as snag hazard or awareness. A jumper can focus too much on getting the shot and losing track of other jumpers or the altitude. edit: at the end of the day, standards are not set by us. It is set by people who are (supposedly) knowledgeable and experienced and act in our best interest. The true reason(s) will only be known by them, everything else is just bits and pieces we hear. Just out of curiosity, what kind of jumping experience are you basing your statement on? There are very few people ready ahead of the recommendations. There are lots and lots who think they are "special." Read the stickies in Photog & Vid and see what you find. And the "true reasons" are always stated. Ask nicely and be willing to listen, and you will get explanations for any rule there is. Most of them will involve someone getting hurt or killed. 6. One of seven major zones. Approached with the correct attitude, the entire body is an erogenous zone. From the hair on her head to her toes. It all depends on how you look at it, touch it, stimulate it. Good hygiene is essential. That's why a shared bath or shower can be a wonderful beginning. Besides, soap is slippery. And sliding sensations are often the best. It allows more pressure without more friction. The most important sexual organ is the brain. 7. A skydiver under canopy and a pilot in a C-170 got into a bit of a "right of way" dispute. Nobody dead, scratch one plane. There's a huge thread over in incidents. Chuck and the Professor (and a bunch of others) are arguing about who has right of way. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 8. Jumps, Humps, Firsts (beer owed) or other notable events. I got Nada, Zip, Zilch. But Safety Day was a good opportunity to go hang out at the DZ, see some people I haven't seen in a while and sit around talking about jumping. 9. I don't begrudge a man his faith. Anyone is entirely welcome to believe in anything they feel is "right." Up until they insist on others believing the same thing, or start hurting people. 10. Ryoder is right. They look delicious. A nice foot bath, with scented soap. A nice, gentle foot massage (no tickling, I got my technique down). And then a good, solid, thorough demonstration of why we keep harping on toe-sucking. TOE, not 'toad.' "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. I won't post something this silly in Incidents. But I can put it here. 75 feet up? Damn, they have some really small feet in Florida. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  12. Yes. Some, but not a whole lot. Very quickly. It happens quickly enough that it really doesn't make any significant difference. If you do one right next to another jumper in stable belly fall, you will dip below them a few feet, if you do the backloop smoothly and quickly. Even if you get "stuck" on your back, that position won't give you much extra speed. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. Right. Why would skydivers be any different than Scuba divers? There's an entire forum dedicated to Photography and Video. There are 2 "sticky" threads at the top of it. They both have a wealth of info on new jumpers and cameras. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. What changed? You say it didn't flare the first try, did it a little the 2nd and did it more (but not perfect) the 3rd. Was it "there and square" from the beginning? Was the slider all the way down? Was there any noticeable change in appearance or the way it was flying (without control input) between the first try and the last? There really isn't any reason for the flare characteristics to change like you say they did. Much more likely is that you weren't pulling down far enough the first time. You said this was your second solo. Was this the first time on this particular canopy? They all fly a little different. And, depending on a couple things, a worn out student canopy may get less responsive as time goes by. Did anyone (like an instructor) check the canopy over after you landed? What did they say? 15. You can chalk that up to a big, fat lie. Once upon a time it was spectacular. Now, definitely doesn't look like that!! Let us be the judge of that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  16. Yes. You have to land each time you are in the air. It doesn't matter if you get in the air by leaving a plane or by launching from the ground. Because you are close to the ground most of the time when you ground launch, the potential for ground-induced turbulence is present for much (all?) of the flight. Given your history, I would suggest you not do this. Really. It's dangerous. You might look into paragliding. Bigger canopies, more focused on long-duration flight, less intense, less dangerous. 17. I think you are wrong on that Bill. If any and all anti-discrimination laws were instantly repealed, I think we'd take a big step backwards. Not all the way back to the 50s, but definitely back. The biggest place, IMO, would be housing, with employment a close second. I have neighbors who are landlords (owner occupied duplexes). They have stated very clearly, and more than once, that they wouldn't rent to "Those People" if they could get away with it. There have been studies that show that job applicants who have names that are commonly white get a response at a much higher rate than those with commonly black names. http://www.nber.org/digest/sep03/w9873.html W'eve come a long way, but there's still a hell of a long way to go. 18. Well, prior to the collapse of the previous government, there were multiple credible reports of injured protesters being grabbed from hospitals. They were sometimes arrested by government security forces, sometimes they were just kidnapped by the pro-Russian militas. Many were beaten severely. Some were found dead in a ditch somewhere. A lot of them are still missing. I don't find it terribly surprising that there are now reprisals against the pro-Russian side. I don't think it's a good thing, but it's not surprising. 19. You silly thing. You know me. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, though. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  20. I see nothing wrong with a system where owners are licensed, maybe once a year pass a background check, and from that point to the next can purchase as much as they want, but the problem is the NRA isn't going to want any system that hints at owner licensing. Is this an ongoing license? Would a gun owner face sanctions or confiscation for failing to renew? Even if they hadn't done anything to become ineligible? Or is this just a "License to Purchase"? Where if a person doesn't wish to purchase a gun for a while, they don't have to have any sort of "government approval" to exercise their right to keep the guns they already have. I don't think the NRA would have much problem with choice #2. Choice #1 however would be vehemently opposed. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. That's funny, I would have guessed that with that much "Banjo Country", it would have been legal for a long time. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  22. We're not there yet. We really aren't. It's a lot better than it was in the past, but we still have a long way to go. I wish it was otherwise, but I see it on an almost daily basis. Both in the real world and on the internet. Just look at all the "Muslims Are Bad" and "Blacks Are Bad" threads right here. Sure, it's the same couple of people over and over, but it's here. And there are more people that feel that way, but are too ashamed or afraid to post that publicly. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
