  1. I'm only picking and choosing a couple here. You do have some valid points. A couple states (WY, VT, AK, AZ) allow concealed carry with no permit. You are allowed to transport through states or municipalities without restriction. For example, I can have a pistol cased and unloaded in my trunk while transiting NYC. I just can't stop. The alcohol restriction had been in place longer than the US Constitution. Remember the "Whiskey Rebellion"? Unrestricted hunting. Like with the Passenger Pigeon? I don't know about your state, but here in WI, the DNR has the same restrictions as far as search and seizure as any other Law Enforcement. 2. Not trying to be a jerk, but could you provide links to what you posted? Also, are the bracketed and bolded comments yours? It looks that way but it isn't really clear. I find it rather amusing that the governor seems to think that an apology is enough amends for what he did. Let me make sure I've got this. He passes a fairly restrictive gun control bill, in a knee-jerk response to a tragedy. He ignores the sheriffs association and their thoughts on it. And an "apology" is good enough? 3. Not fair to brag and not share the recipe! Riiiiight. On a Friday no less. So everyone can make it tonight and then go out to the DZ tomorrow. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  4. Legality depends on the rules where it happened. If it had been in the US, due to rules about airspace above 18000ft, it would have been difficult to get all the necessary approvals. But it was in Canada (according to the OP's "Flag") and the rules are different up there. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. I don't totally agree with that, but then again, every dog I've hit with the semi-truck has been dead right there. You don't go under the wheels of a 35000# (empty) truck and survive. If she didn't want her dogs run over, they shouldn't have been loose on a road. I love dogs (and other animals) quite well, but I also expect their owners to exercise responsibility. Like not letting them run loose. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  7. Well, that "atmo" site has been questioned, and the actual amount of "lift" generated has been debated at length. Search "atmonauti" on here for some rather heated discussion. And as was mentioned, the slowest fall rate may or may not produce the most efficient track. It depends on a lot of different things. You may well try to simply fall at the slowest possible speed to extend your freefall time, but that would get boring because all you are doing is "getting big" and going as slow as you can, nothing else. A ProTrack would be necessary to get even the most basic data, something like a Flysight would be better. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. I live about a half hour north of Oshkosh. I don't think it had anything to do with the traffic associated with the airshow. The DOT just decided that they are a good thing and started building them. There weren't any anywhere around here, anywhere until a few years ago. Since then, they've sprouted up like weeds. Overall, I like them. they are more efficient. I think some of the lights could have been left in, and more 4 way stops replaced. Lights have the advantage of providing breaks in the traffic so that the cross traffic on either side of them can get out onto or across the main street. There's a couple places where it's very hard to cross or make a left turn onto the main street now. Yes, I know the "make a right then a left" trick. Not everyone does and some of the "I've waited long enough and that gap is big enough" near misses are pretty hairy. I also agree that some sort of mandatory "Roundabout Operation and Navigation" training is really needed. The stupid "Take It Slow" DOT tv commercials are not doing enough. Some people think that because the stream of traffic ahead of them is going, they don't have to yield to the car in the circle. Others seem to think it's a mandatory stop to enter. I had a discussion with an older friend who was complaining about them and he was amazed that different (multi-lane) roundabouts have different lane configurations. Apparently he never realized that the lane designations (through with turn optional, mandatory turn, mandatory through) vary from one to another. And apparently he never read the big, reflective signs that they put all over the things, including painted directly on the pavement. 10. I was taught to use both. Spray WD on a paper towel and wipe down the cables a few times to clean them. Then spray some silicone on a fresh paper towel and wipe the cables down a few times to lubricate them. Personally, I wouldn't use anything else. 11. Try this. There's a link in the first post that is what you are looking for, I think. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4531448;#4531448 "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. Well, I can come up with countless people who have been abducted by aliens; have seen Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster (or Champy or Ogopogo); have been attacked by an incubus or a sucubus (or an "old hag"). I can also come up with countless examples of "eyewitness" testimony (believed true by the witness, not perjury) that was proven false by forensic evidence. Personal experience and eyewitness testimony are very unreliable as evidence. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. Size of container? Which one is it, what canopies does it hold and how big is the person the harness was made for? Size of reserve? Some sizes will command a premium and sell very quickly. Others... Not so much. Even in really good shape, they are 13 & 12 years old. Some people will think that they are worthless. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. Yep, that's going to be interesting. A VERY powerful man in congress representing a district gets outed by a rookie. That should be a shot across the bow for everyone up for re-election this cycle, rights AND lefts. Maybe. Maybe not. Primaries tend to attract the fringe voters. The moderates stay away. The independents and cross-over voters often aren't eligible (different states have different rules). So the fringe candidates sometimes win primaries. But those people often aren't electable in the end because they turn off the moderate and cross-over voters that are necessary to win the general election. Joe Lieberman is a good example of this. He lost his primary bid to a single issue fringe candidate (anti-war democrat) but ran successfully as an independent and kept his seat. Anti-incumbent feelings are running very strong though. It will be an interesting election season. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  15. What kind of plane? Some of them come down slowly and gently - Cessna piston singles and Skyvans for example. Others - Otters, Porters and King Airs - come down a little bit faster. I rode observer in Mullins' KA once. the descent was... Interesting. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 18. Well, they weren't actually carrying them, they had to retrieve them from their cars, and both of them were off duty cops, but Here is One And it wasn't a student, but the principal, and again he wasn't carrying but retrieved it from his car: Paarl MS There was another that I recall where the janitor had a gun in his car, got it and stopped the shooter. I think it was in California, but I can't say for sure and couldn't find it with a quick search. Of course, these days there have been laws passed that make it a crime to have a gun anywhere on school property, even locked in a personal vehicle (it's a felony in Wisconsin). 19. The Taliban was never elected as a government. They were in control of a lot of the country, including Kabul. But they took power by force, not popularity. They were opposed by the Northern Alliance, led by Ahmad Shah Massoud. He and the group he led were the main recipients of US military aid during the Soviet occupation (the Taliban didn't receive any - it didn't exist until the mid-90s). Massoud was killed by the Taliban on Sept 9 2001, 2 days before the attacks in the US. But he was pretty well defeated by that time. He was good against the Soviets with US aid, but without the aid, going against the Taliban (who were backed pretty heavily by Pakistan and the Saudis) he was in trouble. 20. Why do you want them? Raccoons. If you've ever had to deal with them, you know that Claymore mines are an ideal solution. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  21. The "Skybirthday" is the actual date (if you know it). But, unlike "Beer Rules", which are actually written out, I don't know of any "Skybirthday Rules." So celebrate it whenever, however and with whomever you think best.
  22. They already did. The earlier rover missions landed with the "parachutes to slow you down and airbags to cushion the impact" plan. Curiosity used a far more complex system because it was too big for the airbags to work. 23. Typical in the US? Small to big: Cessna 182 Cessna 206 Pilatus Porter Cessna Caravan (208) PAC-750 Beech King Air (several different models) Twin Otter Skyvan Sherpa (stretched Skyvan) CASA Older and less common: Beech 18 (Twin Beech) Lockheed Loadstar (loadstall) DC-3 I'm certainly forgetting a few, and I'm leaving out the less common like the C-172, Piper singles and twins. stunt planes, helos and balloons.
