Teens shot at for playing Pokemon in Florida...
wolfriverjoe replied to yoink's topic in Speakers Corner
Why did the shooter pull the trigger? Because they were playing pokemon? Just to make sure sure there is no confusion, I am not supporting or defending the shooter. Derek V Are you being serious, or just trolling? You usually don't troll that much (although you've been yanking a few chains over in the way off topic "German Mall" thread). Dumbass shot at the car because it accelerated towards him and he "felt threatened." He completely ignored, or forgot or (most likely) never knew that going out and confronting the people in the car rendered any claim of "self defense" completely irrelevant. The car accelerated away from the scene because the occupants were threatened by a dumbass with a gun, while they were sitting in a stopped car, minding their own business. As an "interesting" side note, if they had run the dumbass over, or if one of them had had a gun and shot the dumbass, the occupants of the car probably would have had a legitimate claim of self defense. *** Not exactly. Proof of identity and residence always has been (and always should be) required to register to vote. The "Voter ID" laws that are being shoved through by Republicans (in order to reduce voting among those who they don't like) are requiring ID to cast a vote on election day. And what problems do you see? Seriously, how many incidents of fraudulent voting that ID would have prevented can you name? That is, an incident where a person showed up to vote and found someone else had already voted in their name? And what's wrong with early/absentee voting? I do it on a pretty regular basis. I drive truck and am out of town on election day some times. Would you prefer to disenfranchise me? Wisconsin has has "register and vote" on the same day for ever (really, as long as I've been voting). No problems that I have ever heard of. To be honest, I'm not sure how "voting at a different place" would work. Here in Wisconsin, each polling place has a list of registered voters. When a person casts a vote, their name is checked off. That way, people can't vote twice. But I would guess that there are safeguards in place. Again, can you name an incident where someone has voted in more than one place? I do know there was some voter fraud a few years ago where a guy was registered to vote in several places. But that's a different situation. From all reports, this is as it should be. Agreed. I stated my position up thread a ways, I don't feel like repeating it. I really hope he gets convicted. This idiot needs to do serious time. To show the rest of the idiots that self defense has rules and limits as much as to punish this idiot for what he did. It's a 2nd degree felony. Up to 15 years. And "convicted felons" don't get to have guns (and this idiot has pretty clearly shown he shouldn't). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." How (and when) to pay it back in this sport
wolfriverjoe replied to shorehambeach's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
^This. Big time. I mentioned in the "What discipline" thread that jumping with new people is always fun and challenging. If I'm doing a two or three way, and there's a new guy standing in the loading area, I ask what he's doing. If he says "just a solo", I grab him, we sort out a quick & simple dive plan* and go. If he says "But I don't want to screw up you guys' jump", I give him (or her) a very stern look and say "You better not screw it up, that's my job!!" I then explain that if he gets so far out that there's no hope of him making the formation, then we will simply keep an eye on him and revert to our previous dive plan. *Quick and simple is usually a three way fly through (build a round, take turns going forward through the other two, turning around and come back to the round - all anyone needs to know is who goes next) or a 4 way round, two go in and the other two sidebody, back to round and switch pairs. Even easier is "not slot specific, where the first pair to go in is based on only one person (and whoever ends up across from them). If the building being constructed was attacking the cranes, then yes I may comment. Other than that I know zero about cranes, construction, or engineering. And this attitude is a huge part of the problem. The way you post, you're a pretty good cop. But your attitude of "you guys don't know what you are talking about" gets old. Some of the people on here have some training and experience. Yet you dismiss it. You also seem to ignore the (many) incidents where the subject was complying, yet still was assaulted by the cop (either physically or with a weapon). Take for example, the recent one in Miami. You admit that it was wrong and can't defend it. Yet any questioning of other incidents results in the "you don't know what you're talking about." But, regarding the incident in Miami, the cop is claiming he was aiming at the autistic guy and accidentally hit the caregiver, thinking the truck the autistic guy was holding was a weapon. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HEARD THAT STORY??? This time, there was video that clearly showed what really happened. The caregiver was on his back, hands clearly visible. The autistic guy wasn't moving or being a threat. If there wasn't video, would you believe the guy who was shot? Or the cop? (I know what I believe the answer to be). In the discussion on the MacDonald shooting in Chicago, someone made a "sorta joke" about the shot placement from the autopsy report. Something to the effect of "it looks like the cop shot him, he fell down and the cop kept on shooting as he rolled around on the ground." Which would be seriously wrong on the cop's part. Which also turned out to be what happened. It's reached the point where the cops' stories all sound exactly the same. And there's a lot of video evidence that the stories don't match what really happened. Some by a lot, some by a little. The shooting in Minnesota is a great example of this. The cops have gotten away with this for a long, long time. Fortunately, the explosion of video cameras in everyone's hands is allowing the truth to be known. And it's not all that good for the cops. Well, every time he complained that the party apparatus was being used to discredit him, or to promote HRC, he was called "paranoid" or "crazy". And the party hierarchy denied any bias. If they had simply said something like: "HRC has been a party stalwart for decades. Bernie is a "Johnny Come Lately" Independent who changed to the Democratic party simply to run for president. Therefore, the party is backing HRC", then that would be one thing. Of course, for a lot of people, the idea that the party leadership and not the voters deciding ("anoint" has been used) who will be the candidate flies in the face of the idea of "democracy." So they lied and tried to use those lies to further discredit Bernie. Not that I'm surprised a whole lot by it. Both parties are turning into huge train wrecks. True. And everyone who partnered with him, or sold him services, got screwed badly when he declared bankruptcy. And, of course, he rolled a bunch of personal debt into the restructuring, along with taking a huge salary for doing basically nothing. Helluva good con man. Agreed. Indeed, according to his former campaign strategist, that is exactly why he is doing this. He wanted his 15 minutes of fame, and is getting it - but now he can't back down. He didn't want to get this far. Well, it says a lot about the Republican party that a "trust fund baby, TV host, failed casino magnate (really, how do you lose money with a casino?)" is the best choice. Cruz? Rubio? Bush (for a third time?) Walker (build a wall to keep the Canadians out)? Kaisch, maybe, but he never resonated with the extremists who vote in primaries. I hate them both. But I don't hate either of them to the point that I would vote for the other one. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Cuz it's the one I can do. Seriously, I belly fly. Smallish groups. 10 or so is as big as I like to go. With a bit over 400 jumps in almost 14 years, I'm never going to see 5000 jumps. I don't/can't jump often enough to be really good at it, but I am safe, reasonably competent and it's fun. I'll never be a champion, but I can get a few jumps in on my free weekends and have a ball. I doubt I'll ever be much good at freeflying, mainly because I don't really have the time (or energy anymore) to do enough jumps to get good at it. Most of the 'crusty old guys" are belly fliers, and while they are much better than I am, they are very welcoming and fun to jump with (and I'm slowly realizing that I am becoming a "crusty old guy"). The new jumpers are usually looking for someone to belly fly with. The joy and enthusiasm that they bring is awesome And the look in their eyes when they realize someone actually wants to jump with them is pretty cool. Not interested in any sort of swooping. My bones don't heal very quickly anymore. I might try wingsuits one of these days. But I've been saying that for a couple of years. Besides, the belly groups are out first. I'm often the one sitting by the door when we open it on the way up. Best seat in the house (even if it's a bit scary). Arguably the best seat in the whole world. A few years back, I was at Summerfest. The first load of the day was not full. So another jumper and I were able to sit with our backs to the opposite bulkhead, with our feet at the edge of the open door. It occurred to me that there probably weren't too many people anywhere in the world doing that at that particular time. It's a fun memory. Bolding mine It's not that they don't care what he says. It's that they actually like it. The racists and the bigots and the sexists and the xenophobes have been hiding under their rocks and in their caves for years. They knew perfectly well that if they expressed their hatred for (insert racial group, religious group or women here) out loud and publicly, they'd be roasted severely for it. Then Trump comes along and calls Mexicans" Criminals and Rapists." He proposes banning all Muslims from entering the country (apparently even citizens who have traveled abroad). And when Megyn Kelly criticizes him, he goes after her, implying she's attacking him because of PMS. All of the scuzzbuckets out there stood up and cheered. I doubt the "scuzzbucket demographic" is enough to get him elected, but between them, the people who really hate HRC and the morons who fall for the rest of his con job, not to mention the "gangster/mafia demographic" (look at his history in NYC and Atlantic City and tell me he's not involved with them), then he actually may stand a chance. And, especially after his speech and the RNC and the issues with Russia, that scares me rather seriously. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Something to remember is that during the 08 campaign, Obama made a number of comments about "sensible gun legislation". After his election, just about every damned gun and box of ammunition disappeared from store shelves. He proposed zero bills on guns until the tragedy in Connecticut. Which, despite the emotional appeal of it (similar incidents led to sweeping bans in Australia, Canada and the UK), the bills failed to reach the floor in the Senate and died. Nothing serious has been proposed since. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -

This is being discussed in the "Cars for Jerks" thread." But I'm going to post it here. One day a young boy was walking to school. He cut through an alley where he met a hooker. “Hello little boy.” said the hooker as she waved her pinky finger at him. ‘What’s up with the pinky?’ thought the boy. After school the boy went back through the alley and the hooker was back again. “Hello little boy,” she said and waved at him with her pinky finger. ‘Again with the pinky, what’s up with that?’ wondered the boy, ‘If she’s here again tomorrow I’ll ask.’ Sure enough the next morning the same thing happened. “Hello little boy,” she said to the boy while waving her pinky finger at him. “Why are you waving your pinky at me?” asked the boy. “Because this is how big your penis is,” she replied. The boy walked away embarrassed and determined to get her back. After school the boy again went down the alley and again the hooker greeted him. “Hello little boy,” she said as she waved her pinky finger at him. The little boy then put his fingers in his mouth, spread his lips as wide as they could strech, and answered, “Hello, lady.” "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." No, she could be held in contempt of court & sent to jail to cool her heels. ***Unless they bust her for fraud or contempt Fraud would be a legal/criminal issue. I have never heard of anyone being 'busted' for contempt of court; considering that you mean arrested as your definition of 'busted.' Jerry Baumchen I don't think anything she is doing rises to "contempt" or fraud. Maybe making false accusations against Mile Hi could be pursued by them in civil court, but I kinda doubt that they will do that. Keep in mind that Kim Gibbs still has her 1st Amendment right to free speech. Short of a gag order, the judge really can't "shut her up" (as nice as that might seem). The judge's request that everyone act like adults and behave was just that, a request. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I see it as highlighting how idiotic we (the US) have become. The "Anti GMO" movement, the "Anti Vaccination" movement, a host of others, have all used the "lie, instill fear and denigrate opponents" tactic. The "anti intellectual" bandwagon is getting pretty full. Even in Europe. Look at the Brexit vote. The idea that the voters should not listen to the experts was a key point that the "leave" group touted. The simple fact that extremists are the ones who make up the largest voting group in the primaries is a side effect that resulted in Trump being the nominee. Maybe he did, and is just a really bad shot. Ummm. Yeah. That's what the cop is saying. That he thought the autistic guy sitting there with a toy truck was threatening the caregiver. So he opened fire. And then handcuffed the guy he was "trying to save". Suuuuure he was. I have to wonder what would be happening had the citizen with the phone not been there. I think history has shown that figure to be significantly higher than 30%. Take the MacDonald shooting in Chicago for example. How many cops were on scene? How many saw the video? How many signed off on the report that it was a "good shoot"? (73 IIRC on that one). How many stepped forward and said that there was a problem with it? One. And he did so anonymously. While Chicago probably isn't in line with the "norm" for this, given it's very long history of this sort of thing, the reality is that most cops will cover for their "brother". Maybe not "no matter what he does, including shooting unarmed people for no reason", but they cover each other. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." No. The amount in someone's urine is very small. Detectable, but that's about it. I'm going to guess that "waste products" (water leaves and stalks/stems) were disposed of somewhere, and they ended up contaminating the water supply. And, kinda like the urine, the amount that is detectable vs the amount that will get you high is vastly different. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
