Kinda funny that it's a 'Tea Party' site. They have pretty much died off from terminal hypocrisy. It's also a year old. Touting the 'end' of the Chevy Volt. While it true the Volt was discontinued, it was replaced by the Bolt. So the implication that GM is abandoning the electric car is absolutely false. The statement that EVs are only for the 'uber-wealthy' is also a clear falsehood. The Bolt is marketed as a 'normal' car, in the sub $30k price range. Sooooo... Cherry picking facts. Misleading and outdated articles. All of which 'prove' the exact opposite of what is claimed.

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that the result of this whole mess will be either the end of the Republican Party or the end of democracy as we know it. The results of both last year's mid term elections and the more recent 'off year' elections give some hope, but not a lot. And for the hardcore right wingers, I never voted for a D for anything beyond a local election until last year.

No. It doesn't really need to be posted at all. Cut aways are not quite 'routine', but unless something really unusual happens, they don't merit an 'incident' report'. If you have a cut away and wish to post it, what happened, what your decision process was, what you think you could/should have done differently, and ask for feedback, that's a bit different. But to simply post that a cut away happened, nobody was hurt and no more info is not really worth it. Dan BC's piece about EPs and complacency is definitely worth the read. It's been posted on here before.

Given the fact that Trump seems to by actively trying to destroy our democracy and support Russia's attempts to destroy Ukraine's democracy, "patriotic" and "supporting President Trump" have no place in the same sentence. Do you honestly believe that a bunch of keyboard commandos are going to do anything more than type their outrage? I don't doubt that some will. After all, a bunch of idiots picked up guns and supported Cliven Bundy when he refused to pay his land lease payments. But enough to matter? That are gullible enough to believe that "Q" is real? Please.

Green new deal equals magical thinking

'Cuz it's what their hero does? For me, sites like Wattsupwiththat, or InfoWars or Brietbart are good indicators of the critical thinking abilities of the person linking them. Either they are too gullible to realize how inaccurate those sites are... Or they think that I am. -

I've asked that before. The predictions he's claiming haven't come to pass (yet) were NOT short term predictions. They were 'hundreds of years' predictions. So of course they haven't happened yet. I've asked for some proof that any of that was predicted to happen in decades, not centuries, predictions backed up by solid scientific data. Not by Al Gore. There HAVE BEEN predictions made in a 'decades' time frame. They were for small temp increases, glacial & ice cap shrinkage. Those have been pretty much spot on. The other major 'decades' prediction is the tipping point. The point at which we're pretty much fucked no matter what we do. Of course, the only way to verify that prediction is to do nothing (which we are doing quite well) and wait. By the time it's been proven to be correct, it will be too late. -
Well, my personal idea of a 'game room' would include a drill press, metal lathe, drilling & milling machine, shop press, several tool chests, air compressor... You get the idea. But that's not what you are after. Sooooo... Bar. Doesn't need to be fancy. Basic 'open in the back, closed in the front, decent top, kind of thing. Plans are readily available, materials won't run too much. Running water would be nice, but spendy if you don't already have it in the building. Bar stools are cheap at thrift stores. Card table. The octagon ones with recesses for chips and cup holders. Make it yourself or find a cheap one on C/L or at a thrift store. Video game. Console or computer, bigger screen for groups. A couch or a couple big chairs. If you want to go 'all in', old stand up arcade games & pinball machines are out there. Not cheap, but really cool. Dart board. The basic electronic ones can be found cheap on C/L or at thrift stores. You could go 'old school' and get the kind that use metal tipped darts. But drunk skydivers and sharp metal flying through the air can make for... Interesting outcomes. And on the 'sharp metal flying through the air' theme, a throwing knife target. That can be as simple as sections of 2x4 edge glued together to make a 3' square face. They get chewed up over time, but are simple & cheap. A set of knives is not expensive. It's an interesting skill to develop. Make sure the target is NOT near anything breakable or valuable (guess how I know this little tidbit).

Well, the Rs released a report that claims that there were no impeachable offenses. Really. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry/read-full-text-republican-report-impeachment-inquiry-n1094576 One of the funniest things I've heard is how detailed the phone records are. They basically have records of all the calls that were made between Trump and all of his minions. One call that is conspicuously absent is the one Trump claims he had with Sondland. The ones Trump had his own handwritten transcript for. No record at all that the call ever took place. Somehow, not terribly surprising.

Well, given that Lincoln freed the slaves, I'm not all that surprised.

When s it OK to use the press as a weapon

He'd have to have an actual point, not just be trolling. -
Full restitution. Already paid when the story was written.

Well, as a point of reference, the Sept 2019 USPA Parachutist shows A license at ~91000, B ~51k, C ~ 48k, D ~ 38k.

This is from back in May, so it isn't really new, but it fits in here: https://thegailygrind.com/2019/05/31/republican-official-who-called-michelle-obama-an-ape-in-heels-sentenced-to-prison-for-fema-fraud/?fbclid=IwAR3qYACFUD5Kjpv9UGkN9RkqxbVXcFHMpcXmXeAP9fv8GvdRXLDaGYR7yso She claimed her house had been damaged and applied for benefits. Her house was not damaged.

Some people don't finish AFF. Some people never get their license. Some people get their license and drift away soon after. Some people jump for a year or two and then disappear. Some do it until they decide to become 'responsible' and quit. That may be their own decision or they may have 'help' with it. Some jump until they realize how much time & money it takes to stay current and reasonably safe, or to progress beyond 'sorta good'. Some jump until they get hurt, or see someone they know get hurt or killed. The danger isn't 'real' until then. So they quit. Some become Tandem Instructors (or packers or even DZOs), then get burned out by the grind. Of course, some of us keep on despite all of the above and refuse to quit.

Well, it would seem that the 9YO followed the rules and it was the dad who fell short. Here in WI, we had 4 hunters shot during opening weekend of deer gun season. None fatally. I volunteer as a range officer at a local shooting range. We call the couple of months leading up to deer season 'silly season'. Very busy with people who only handle firearms a couple times a year. Some are very scary. I'm honestly surprised at the number of hunters shot each year. It's pretty low, given the skill level I see. The actual number of 'scarily stupid people with guns' is not very high. It's a very small percentage. But it's definitely there.
-
I'm not sure this meets the 'intent' of the thread. It wasn't really an 'accident'. It was, however, really stupid. The guy made a booby-trap. It functioned as intended. The fact that it shot the guy who put it in, and then apparently forgot it was there doesn't really matter. That's the 'fun' thing about that sort of setup. It has no conscience, no judgement, no nothing. It doesn't care who trips it. The owner, a kid, a cop, or the intended target, a burglar. If it's triggered, it goes off. That's why they are illegal as hell. If it had been triggered by an intruder, the (now dead) homeowner would be facing murder charges (usually voluntary manslaughter or reckless homicide).

Well, lots of things have changed. But ONE thing hasn't. https://www.dropzone.com/profile/1881-billvon/ Someone still has strong anatidae tendencies.

There are a number of foreign news broadcasts that have broadcasts in English. PBS carries NHK (Japan) in addition to the BBC and Al Jazeera is available on some cable/satellite services.

Very true, but you have to apply 'critical thinking' and 'healthy skepticism' to those. Unfortunately, those skills are not all that common any more. Edit to add: Oh yeah, almost forgot. Devin Nunes, the senior R on the intel committee, you know, the one holding the impeachment hearings, has come up in the news. Apparently, HE is conducting his own investigation into the Bidens. Meeting with the prosecutor that Biden had fired... For corruption. Meeting with Trump, Giuliani and the rest of the minions. When asked about this, he either refuses to answer, or spews out a bunch of gobbledy-gook about 'conspiracy to obstruct justice' and suing CNN & the Daily Beast. https://www.thestranger.com/slog/2019/11/25/42097454/oops-devin-nunes-has-some-explaining-to-do-about-ukraine I would think this would constitute a conflict of interest, and that he should recuse himself from the hearings. But, hey. Its the Republicans. Who apparently now do anything they want, regardless of the laws.

Oops. I'm a bit data limited, so I didn't watch the video at first. I was thinking that Trump had used Zappa for his rally.

He has a bad habit of using music without proper permission. He's been issued C&D orders. Yet he keeps on doing it. Like he thinks he can get away with anything.

Well, apparently Quebec province is instituting a new law. Mandatory breathalyzer interlock for anyone convicted of a 2nd offense OWI. Some pretty harsh penalties for driving a car without one (so don't loan your car to someone with 2 convictions). https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/drunk-driving-twice-quebec-breathalyzer-for-life-1.5369145?fbclid=IwAR1iqaOWT-K5zGodH8Uq7819xNsNKM67yYsZyrA8o0vsayess-OGx3AJOvo

Comment? Sure. It's a load of shit. Normiss posted a link to Heather Cox Richardson's FB page a bit ago. She has written fairly long posts most days on the hearings and the Rs response to them, pointing out the demonstrably false claims ("demonstrably false" meaning there's a lot of proof that they are lies). From yesterday: ...We are 100% sure the Ukraine story is BS, and is planted by Putin, but some people are now pushing it even harder, which should make you suspicious... ...If you can force people to accept as reality something that is demonstrably false, you prove to both of you that you, the liar, is the one in charge and that the listener will submit... The post starts off with Giuliani's absolutely insane assertions during an interview on Fox. She very astutely points out that they people appearing on TV are NOT under oath and can say whatever they want. Somehow it's not terribly surprising that they won't testify under oath.
